Probably the most interesting interview on football I have ever heard. Were family and faith off-limits? No problem if they were. I would rather listen to insightful comments on something that RVP wanted to talk about rather than interviewers chasing headlines. Very Dutch of RVP to tell the Arsenal board what he thought. It would also have been interesting to hear RVP's thoughts on why Holland produces so many great footballers.

@ 11:48 Van Persie became a man at that moment. Having to drop childhood friends like that is not an easy decision to make at all, but there comes a point in a man's life where he has to do some spring cleaning in terms of who he's got around him and ask some tough questions about what value they add to their life (if any). If anybody in your life does the opposite of enhancing it, they're only going to distract and stifle you from achieving your goals, so you've really got to think if such people should be in your life at all. Especially with women guys, be very careful, chasing tail is a fast track to losing focus on your goals and wasting a lot of unnecessary time and money.

I loved watching his career progress, from his first day at Arsenal. Such a fantastic technique, and unique style of moving his body. I am so happy to hear his thoughts and opinions - he is clearly an introspective guy, and I get the feeling his wife and Arsene have been a big part in this.
Van Persie was the player I first idolised growing up, as an arsenal fan seeing this cheeky kid scoring amazing goals and freekicks! I really thought he’d be one of the greatest.
This guy would probably make a very good manager. He’s got the football knowledge, people skills and seems like he would be a good man manager. I know it’s hard to become a very good or even great manager but he seems to have all the talents to do it.
Christy Dolan he seems to have turned it around since he was a young player. I must admit a lot of young players can seem petulant until they grow up. I think he would make a good manager. He knows the game and he seems like he could be a good man manager.
41:29 seems like Mikel Arteta was probably one of the players! An insightful, engaging and honest interview that could only be achieved by you guys. I always reminisce about when I 'ambushed'/ 'stalked' him in Barbados in the summer of 2014 while he was staying at St Peters Bay Resort. He was so polite and accommodating. It was a mini dream come true. RVP and Fabregas inspired me, in particular, to support Arsenal FC besides Arsene Wenger during my adolescent years. At the time he was pleasantly surprised that I was an Arsenal fan instead of a Man Utd fan. I had the courtesy of meeting his children and wife. One of my all-time favourite players and I truly wished he retired at Arsenal but I guess...life happens. Thank you for the great content. Would love to see more Arsenal related interviews in the future!
This was a brilliant and insightful interview. Many people, never mind players, should watch this and take some of his advice on board. Give your best, don't get discouraged too easily, have the courage to stand up for yourself and others, be polite, have a positive attitude...all things to strive for. All of this coming from one of my favorite players as well, great!
Im surprised they never brought up his injuries since it was a major theme in his career and robbed him of a greater opportunity to win more trophies and achieve more accolades in his career. It would have been interesting to hear what it must have been like to deal with those injuries and how he motivated himself to keep coming back stronger despite so many major set backs in his career.
the best sports player interview I have ever listened to and telling us about his journey of personal development with all the ups and downs. Writing a letter with your own assessment and goals and then sharing the content with his wife is priceless! Best goal in my opinion (I am Dutch) is the header against Spain in the 2014 World cup opening game.
Great interview. The bit from 27:00 when RVP talks about how poorly he was treated by Van Gaal is fascinating. It also shows what a bell-end Van Gaal was - never a vision more impaired than his - sold all the wrong players and bought duff replacements - RVP could have easily played three more years at the club. RVP - the legend!
easily. That was a great insight into how rotten the club became post fergie, looking back you can see how all the players' mentalities were affected. You echoed my sentiments exactly. I still hate van Gaal to this day for his treatment of Robin and the others...it's unreal how the guy got away with it and had the audacity to say he was mistreated and the victim, when it took 4 years for the club to semi-recover from his catastrophic reign as manager.

RVP is my favourite footballer of all time. My Hero. It still hurts me that he left Arsenal but it was the best choice he made to be honest. I love you Robin Van Persie❤️
I'm a Chelsea fan and RVP was a pain in the a$$ for us,weather his hat trick for Arsenal in Stamford bridge or the last minute equalizer with Man utd in the very next season. But I absolutely loved this podcast. He is so open about life and football, could listen to him for hours.
Great interview gentlemen! The parts about his son and the LVG conversation stood out for me. Wow! If only we had the ‘All or nothing’ type documentaries back then when football was actually interesting. When you had all those characters! Philosophy and psychology when put on the table from the sporting elites in their field is very transferable to the audience to digest/ learn from to apply to our respective fields. From a “selfish” point of view when RVP talks about learning from the top players and leaders at Arsenal it makes me cry inside thinking about those days! This is what has worried me about the state of our club now. If I’m Bukayo Saka, Kieran Tierney or Emile Smith Rowe now, who am I looking up to? We are doomed 😄
I am an arsenal fan since '98. And I think RVP has been our most unsung hero. He was constantly carrying the team to 2-4th at a time when we were 6-7th. There were incredible matches where his winning mentality pulled us through the odds. I dont understand why arsenal folks hate him when you yourselves quit a job within a few years of being in it and citing "need more opportunities to grow" as your reason. This guy stayed and stayed with arsenal even when his potential was so far beyond what the club and board(ahem!) aims for. Look what he achieved at manchester with proper players in every position, and then look at arsenal who doesnt even bother with players who can't sell shirts. RVP truly deserved more at that period in time, and i forgive him for going away to achieve what he set out to do: winning. He's unfulfilling his talents by being at arsenal at that time!
Especially as he was not offered a new deal by Arsenal. My guess is that Arsene's doctors were telling him that RVP's injuries would soon terminate his career at the top level. That was what happened. After one good season at United, RVP's career went downhill quickly.
Christopher Barclay - don't you mean when David Moyes took over... 😬 I think Fergie would of managed to get another season out of him... Great player... even with his chocolate leg 😂
I'll always love RvP. So many incredible goals at Arsenal. Passion, grit, and some useful asshole-ishness. Him and Song were linking like crazy. I'm still bitter at the club for not building around them at that time. "Robin vanPersie!!! 🙌🙌🙌."
@@advlou I can't think of any other explanation as to why Arsenal did not offer their best player and captain a 3 or 4 year contract other than they did not expect him to last 3 or 4 years. Wenger took the same ruthless view with Wright and Vieira. Both were allowed to go when apparently still at (Vieira) or close to (Wright) their peaks but they then declined quickly. Wenger had a doctor in the south of France on whose judgement he relied.
@@cbarclay99 Tbh, Arsenal players were taking turns being injured during that period. Rosicky had one and a half season rehab-ing. RVP's injuries would be considered 'normal' compared to the others. I think he should last for at least 3 more seasons at the top. 4-5 if he decides he could play second string.
A part of me wants to hate RVP for going to United, but objectively he made the right decision and similarly the way he played was inspirational. He played like from the soul.
@@HighPerformancePodcast I don't think the public understand how tough life is at the top and the bit on LVG telling him to leave really got me, I think people genuinely think it's all rosy at the top with all the glory and cash etc... That's one Dutch guy sacking another which goes to show, true success lies in hard work, determination, persistence, solving problems etc.... There is no privelage or colour or quota or anti this or anti that....it's pure business, if you can do it, the glory and the trimmings are yours if not, you stay in your office job.
This helps so much as an aspiring coach from the third world 🇰🇪. I say thanks for giving free, and more importantly quality pidcast episodes keep going!
@@tanihakuna I get what you mean, hes got more sponsors and more ppl to keep happy, but I feel like he'd be the go to guy for work ethic stories, overcoming obstacles, what was going through his head dealing with the pressures of the premier league. I feel like that he can discuss pretty openly.
The quote really hit you find out 10% of the truth and you make 90% of it up. Really relates to not only today but how people act as though they now the full story of things
At 07:00 he is talking about when he took a free kick from Hooijdonk (the best free kick taker in the world at the time) at Feyenoord when he was 19 and just became a starting 11 player. This was after the coach benched him that game while he was supposed to start because he was an hour late to the game preparations.
A proper Man United legend. Love this guy, I only hate that he didn't join us sooner and that he only got to play one season with the actual United before it all fell apart right from his second season. Would've retired at United with atleast a couple more trophies if Fergie had continued for a couple more years.
@V T 1) He's not a one season wonder. He was an elite Premier League striker before he even joined us. 2) He is a legend for delivering the 20th title in Fergie's last season. He will forever be remembered for that. 'Clueless' is a word thrown around by boring, pedantic lumps of shit like you who think their opinion is the end all be all of fan opinions. I will call Rafael da Silva a fucking legend if I want. No 'real' legend of the club would have a problem because they are secure about their status at the club. What makes you so insecure and bitter if I call RvP a legend? Prick.
I love this interview with RVP. As a Manchester United fan, I used to be worried about Van Persie all the time when we played against Arsenal.... Lo & behold he joins United and takes us straight to the title. After listening to this, I realized why he was so successful. He's a thoughtful man who took control of his life & career at just the right time to maximize his potential.
52:00 - "Try to live in one world" What do I understand by this? You have to decide one sphere of life and face it. You have to decide if you want to be a party boy or high career productive person. Set your Focus on one thing and aim single mindedly for that thing.
I think Arsenal fans remember him getting paid and supported by Arsenal through a lot of injuries. Having heard this he should definitely have explained why he left as the fans would have backed him over Gazidas.
He got stuck at Arsenal. I just wished Sir Alex would have bought him earlier. Such a world class player. The one common denominator between Arsenal and United. He's in my top 50 all time. Props to RVP
Arsenal stuck with him even though he was always injured. Remember Arsene got rid of Adebayor over RVP when he decided to play a 433 formation and up until that point Adebayor had already had his breakthrough season (07/08), whilst we were still waiting for RVP. No one in football at the time talked about RVP being World class. Because of his injuries he didn't blossom into a world class player until he was 28/29. So no he would not of been in Sir Alex's or anyone's else radar earlier. He gave Arsenal 1 and half good seasons and Man U one good season. The reason some Arsenal fans feel letdown by RVP, is not because he left for Man Utd, but because after Asrene stuck with him all those years, once he finally made it, he F'd off. He is was a good player he played for Arsenal. As for being a Arsenal legend, no he doesn't come into that category. I see him now as being more a Man utd player.
This resonates with ne as well. I have a tendacy to close and stay in my turtle shell where its comfortable and familiar when things are going well. I shut out the world and my friends and this way of processing my situations have never done any good for me

Beautiful person. Open hearted talented and super inspirational
The best football podcast. Keep it up. 🙏❤
A part of me wants to hate RVP for going to United, but objectively he made the right decision and similarly the way he played was inspirational. He played like from the soul.
What a interview, I listened to this twice now
44:45 It’s easy to think like a loser hard to think like a winner... What a legend, mad respect for him and his game, that’s a great father💪👏
Best RVP interview ever ❤️
50k subs with them star podcasts, super underrated this channel good shit
Nice, you hear also the Dutch mindset AMD culture in Robin, why we are a big nation as a small country!🇳🇱🙏
12 minutes in....I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS IS FREE... Content like this changes lives. RVP is one of the all time greats.
Thank you!
I can't get enough of RVP left foot with ball. Why it has to be ended.
11:35 - Van Persie being Ruthlessly Honest with Friends. Priority/Choices.
highly enjoyable this podcast keep it up!!
Thanks! Will do!
The most dangerous left foot ever in the prem. Free kick or open play. You could never let this dude shoot. Amazing talent.
I love the Wenger Bergkamp relaxed lunch story !!!
Very insightful listen! Much respect to RVP!
Really enjoyed that. Thanks Guys. Thanks Robin
Great interview @The High Performance cast. This conservations are really interesting. Next time I like to see Thierry Henry if it is possible.
💯💯
Very interesting interview ! Thank you
We need RONALDO!! I'd pay for that one. This one was great though!
I think Ronaldo's would be scripted though
@@tanihakuna I get what you mean, hes got more sponsors and more ppl to keep happy, but I feel like he'd be the go to guy for work ethic stories, overcoming obstacles, what was going through his head dealing with the pressures of the premier league. I feel like that he can discuss pretty openly.
@@kcovac2029 It would be a great insight totally.
CR7 would be amazing.
GREAT CHANNEL WOW I NEED TO LISTEN TO THIS.
The quote really hit you find out 10% of the truth and you make 90% of it up. Really relates to not only today but how people act as though they now the full story of things
RVP 2011-12 is my favourite footballer of all time.
RVP volley vs Charlton in 2006 is my favourite goal of all time.
That's quality content right there, could you get Berbatov next? It would be a fantastic episode
Love the insightful content, keep it up!
Amazing Podcast and some valuable life lessons!
Can we have lewandowski? He is the best striker in the world right now. I would love to hear what he has to say whilst playing right now.
Prick.
I think Van Persie was referring to the player who needs to "improve the first touch" was Danny Welbeck
no it was lord bendtner
or adebayor, its between the two
they were both great at heading so i dont think its either of these two
@@telekoadmasu6353 Adebayor actually had a pretty good first touch.
Memphis Depay
Exceptional podcast
just got a huge amount of love and respect for Robin.
Robin was so proud speaking about his son shakeel.. #proud father
Good one. Want more about his coaching staff.
Enjoying your podcast, a lot of food for thought- I believe we all can benefit from helping others.
52:00 - "Try to live in one world"
What do I understand by this?
You have to decide one sphere of life and face it.
You have to decide if you want to be a party boy or high career productive person.
Set your Focus on one thing and aim single mindedly for that thing.
Great podcast , thanks gentlemen
Thanks for listening
Rebin is intelligent, speaking so articulate in English
I think Arsenal fans remember him getting paid and supported by Arsenal through a lot of injuries. Having heard this he should definitely have explained why he left as the fans would have backed him over Gazidas.
Such valuable advice
For parents & individuals
Thank you 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Wenger asking him why are you not a top player and hes answer and Wengers reaction lol was good
He got stuck at Arsenal. I just wished Sir Alex would have bought him earlier. Such a world class player. The one common denominator between Arsenal and United. He's in my top 50 all time. Props to RVP
He had 2 good seasons at Arsenal. All the other years he was on the treatment table. Yous all seem to forget this
He was injured almost 80% of his time at Arsenal. As soon as he recovered and had a full season, he then left for Utd.
Very interesting. Thanks for sharing
subscribed and notifications ON! great podcast and so underrated too
"Stay open, Stay open to questions & stay Friendly"
This resonates with ne as well. I have a tendacy to close and stay in my turtle shell where its comfortable and familiar when things are going well. I shut out the world and my friends and this way of processing my situations have never done any good for me
