Thanks for watching Justin! Yes it was a lovely day - I really enjoyed my stroll around the town. It is a very pretty little place! Yeah I bet you notice a difference with the weather, no more of those harsh Scottish winter's for you! Thanks again for watching.
Thanks fir sharing Lots of great info, we're planning a trip this summer so this has helped a lot. Hope you're having a lovely week Morgs Jo and Boo 🐕 ❤
Thanks for watching, hope you have a wonderful trip - if you're doing the North Coast 500 then buckle up, it's going to be one heck of an incredible ride! Enjoy!!
Yes theres less people and it looks a bit rundown. The first nuclear power station Dounreay was placed on the north coast as it has low population density in case anything went wrong. Its now in decommissioning phase. The biggest employer is the nhs now there is a fine hospital there. Thanks again. Keith
@@MattWhitingsEurope actually it has changed hugely. It was a very very bustling town and area mainly due to the Dounreay employment factor . Unfortunately though, the town itself has now all but turned into a ghost town. The local councils decisions are largely responsible for this reputedly. I still miss the place though and very much enjoyed your video, thanks.
Thank you John, yes I imagined that in times gone by it was a hive of activity, it certainly seemed quite but I put that down to COVID more than anything else, interesting to know there are other factors at play.
Yeah I know how you feel. I think we’re all looking forward to things opening back up and normality returning. Hopefully it will be sooner rather than later!
Thanks Ben, I will look it up if I head back, I didn't realise there was a heritage centre. I made it to Wick Castle and Castle Sinclair-Girnigoe, are there others in the area?
Thanks for the tips Ben, I'll make a note of both those places. Unfortunately I just couldn't fit anything else into this trip but I'm sure I'll be back on the North Coast 500 again before long, I really enjoyed it. Lots more to see that's for sure. Thanks again!
I don't think I visited the Heritage Centre but really enjoyed my lazy walk around the town. Got to say I loved northern Scotland and will return someday for sure!
If you go out to John O’Groats and to the sea view hotel not only do they do great food they will be able to help you about how to get to stroma, the owners of it do trips over frequently
That's interesting, I was thinking about Stroma just the other day. I would love to have visited the island and spent some time exploring - such a mysterious place! I'll keep that in mind so if I'm in the area again I'll look into it, and maybe have some lunch whilst I'm there! Thanks for watching, I appreciate the tip.
Hi Ro, well you never know - he might just be in the family chain somewhere! He's certainly an important part of the region's history - I enjoyed learning about him whilst in Wick!
Thank you Rachel, I appreciate you saying. I must say you live in a wonderful part of the country, I really enjoyed taking a walk around Wick and seeing some of the sights! Did a bit of reading up before I travelled.
That's cool, is it worth a stop? There just weren't enough hours in the day! Do you know much about Stroma (the island just off the coast)? Apparently nobody lives there but local fisherman will take you over for a price. It looked really fascinating!

Yeah I walked past it twice myself before I realised it was there! I knew it was short, just not that short. Thanks for joining me, hope all is well with you both.
I've stayed in Mackays many times and was never disappointed. Excellent all round hotel and very friendly. Also worth a visit is the Old Pulteney whisky distillery in Huddart Street. Great video.
@@DogCrag Thank you Jack, I didn't realise that Whiskey Distillery was there so thanks for bringing it to my attention. I'm glad I got to spend a few hours there, I enjoyed strolling around and seeing it for the first time.
