Stay after it big man. If I can do it anyone can.(250 subs). I am of the mindset if you build it they will come. I love your intro. The begining scenes with the tools in circular pattern was neat. If the maker doesn't fix that tool, I am certain you can. Thank you Mr. Knot....
When I heard 250 subs I was a bit shocked, I thought because of the production quality and effort I see in the video you'd have at the very least 50k, well, keep up the great work, I'm sure you'll get there and much further in no time
Keep doing what you doing, the best handles in my experience is the one you make yourself and put the head on it from the bottom up. Anyway nice video and keep up the good work.
Great video. I just ordered the Helko Werk Spaltaxt so I’m curious what your experience was like with HW customer service. Hopefully I won’t need customer service but I have a lot of wood to split this spring. So we’ll see. I agree with you completely: I will pay a premium price for a high quality product. However, if that product fails perform, the company needs to fix it, or get called out. Hopefully my HW will be good to go and hopefully they took care of you I appreciate the honesty in your review. Nothing worse than glowing reviews of inferior gear. That’s why I subscribed. 👍
Completely agree. Fiskars X27 is, by far, the best splitting axe I've ever had. I split black walnut, locust, oak, hackberry, mulberry, ash, and osage. Some of the knots and crouch pieces I would not even attempt with other axes.
I have a small Fiskars hatchet and while camping a tree fell in a wind storm blocking the road out. A young man in our group borrowed my Fiskars hatchet as it was the only hatchet in our group. He said to me "I'll break this thing in a couple of swings" . He came back a short time later astonished at how effective this hatchet was cutting through that tree. I bet that splitting maul is just as effective. Thanks
I just bought a HW Hessen axe and a Council Tool boy's axe very recently. The grain orientation is perfect on the CT handle, the HW grain runs more like a 1 o'clock if that makes sense. I hope it holds up.
That Basque axe preformed pretty well. I’ve heard a lot of positive things about them. Sucks about that helko maul, but hopefully they fix that issue for you.
Great work, thanks. Manufacturer needs to leave you with a feeling of confidence. That they made it rite and then some. Waiting patiently on the give away
Please do keep us updated, I believe in quality for what I spend, and a company should not expect us to pay a premium price for inferior product or service! After all is said and done, ripping a company that sells inferior products is still do us a service, but where do they stand according to the product, do they stand behind it and make it right, along side it and you, and not only correct the tool, but improve their quality control, or do they distance themselves from any discrepancies in their quality control, and keep pumping out quantity to make up the difference in a loss! I have seen quality products get bashed for no reason, but then again I have seen other more deserving companies needing bashing but getting praised instead, because how they stand with the customers! So from what i saw, is the handle twisted in the eye of the maul, this is a workmanship issue, of fitment, so this should be looked at as being a manufacturer issue that needs to be corrected as warranty, and or replaced fully at their expense ( shipping included) or they should at minimum send a new handle for you to rehang the head, and that handle should be thoroughly inspected and left “fat” at the head! So lets see how they handle this situation, before any strong bashing begins!

All my splitters have come from car boot or yard sales for next to nothing. All have been heavily modified with an angle grinder and finished on a polisher, and most of the re-hafted properly. The reason they were for sale is the factory cutting edge was rough ground to between 45 and 100 degrees included angle and that just bounces off any wood worth burning. The guy buys it, tries it and it don't work so gets retired to the garage till he has a clear out. .... At $200, they are laughing at you... all the way to the bank !
These are fine tools, but one sure way of damaging good handles very quickly is to strike on the far side of the block being split. Inevitably the handle will be damaged when it comes in contact with the wood as the axe-head opens it up. Final point: Since there is no splitting block, it can't be good for the edges of the tools, when they come in contact with the ground, after a split has been made. Otherwise it was an enjoyable video to watch.
I use the Gränsfors Bruk Splitting Axe with Collar Guard and have for 5 years...I cut/split/stack 9 cords a winter. These Gransfors tools are expensive but come with a lifetime warranty, are handcrafted by a single person and even come with the forgers mark on the head. The splitting axe is lighter and does not wear you out like the larger ones do. If I can't split it with this tool, I break out the hydraulic splitter...but that's usually because the wood is knotted, branched or forked. I highly recommend them!
@@NewWorldHoarder Sigh, what an ignorant post. Where did I say any of that? I am fully versed in forging techniques and am quite aware of using machines to forge instead of hand held tools...they are a company after all. Use whatever you want...if you even swing one at all...my experience is people who post hate hardly ever do anything except become ignorant keyboard warriors. looks like that nordic style was the worst splitter anyway. sure is nicely polished though. seems the worst trend in axes today is more production time put in aesthetics than performance
In my humble opinion, not to instig8er, if you square up your shoulders and tighten your glutes you might be able to produce a little more velocity on that swing. Maybe try curling the toes on the down swing. Mght be a Southern thing!.
@@knotbreaker That's not actually a Great reccomdation 😆😆 The only new splitters that are interesting to me are the 5 lb Council (splitting) axe. But not as much as a splitter. But as a general purpose axe , Fallin axe. Can chop really well with it due to it's convex cheeks and can lift a big tree driving falling wedges. And general working where often times something needs to be beat on or driven in like big spikes ect. Including Hard Head wedges. I do wish it was available with a 32" straight handle.
I did a video on the new council splitter. It is an all around fantastic tool. It splits best with softer woods, imo. Hardwoods make it stick pretty much every swing. I have also done some bucking with it and it performs very well in that task. Thanks for watching!
I know exactly how this feels, and it’s unacceptable! Quality control issues like this cost the manufacturer ZERO dollars to make right before the product leaves the factory!!! High quality materials with poor quality builds don’t match!
It is funny, I have seen stores like “harbor freight” stand behind tools better then some of these specialty stores, but to each their own, and and any axe, maul or saw that costs you your hard earned dollars should be of quality in both workmanship and parts!
@@knotbreaker Received a Helko Tasmanian with same gaps between eye and handle. Didn’t even test it, send foto’s and asked for a new handle so I could fit it myself. They did however send me a complete new axe and I could keep the old one. Second axe was good. So no complaints about their service.
