6 Shannon class lifeboats are built here during one year.
As of June 2019 the 35th of proposed 50 Shannon class is seen during one of the build stages.
During this visit all trypes (Classes) of Lifeboat where undergoing refit maintenance. The tour guide gave an interesting commentary i had to increase the volume somewhat . Interesting bit about the relief severn Class 17-02 The Will, the first production severn. Which is being re-built as a trial to hopefully get rid of the gremlins with the boat.
including relief Mersey class outside in storage area.
Plus Ex Lowestoft Lifeboat Tyne class which will be part of the National Lifeboat Collection at Chatham Dockyard. Will be going to Chatham when they can find space for it! The first production Mersey class ex Hastings Lifeboat "Sealink Endeavour" is also seen, which way also be preserved and end up in a Museum somewhere in the future. Would be of more interest for a seaside town to have a Lifeboat Museum with an old lifeboat in it, telling the story of the local lifeboat and lifeboat hero's .Much more interesting than an art gallery! But that's just my opinion i am a lifeboat enthusiast!

Being A Shannon Mechanic I never knew we had heat seeking capabilities, think the guides need to go on a training course.
what is the shannons class hull made from?
GRP fibreglass composite 3 inches thick .
wow, thats a serious hull. wondering why not use aluminium.....? maybe composite has better characteristics?

2 and a half million pounds. many of the boats funded by people leaving money to the RNLI in wills . many of the boats are named after the people leaving money to the RNLI. which has been the main source of funding in recent years.
