My friend's mom gave me that book to read when I was around 13. I wasn't a Christian then and had read 0 Christian books of any kind, but This Present Darkness absolutely fascinated me. I remember I could not put it down.
Hi, I am from India. I had never been introduced to christian books. Thank you for inspiring me to read this. 🌟
I love when you said “Jesus is the one that holds the victory!” That is so powerful and true. With everything going on in our world, I have to remind myself of that and every single day, I take so much joy from it. Thank you and such a great video! I’m just getting into the Left Behind series and wow! I feel the same way about those books that you do about This Present Darkness. I love books that inspire and cause so much thought and inspiration which causes joy.
Yes, so good! I read the Left Behind series a while back and I loved reading the portrayal of the Christians' interactions with the Holy Spirit!
@@OceanaGottaReadEmAll Yes! I’ve read the first 3 books in the Left Behind: The Kids and now I want to read the other series. I love how these books continually deepen my faith and cause me to draw nearer to Jesus.
Wow Oceana, I’m so so glad you were blessed by it. I know it changed my life. I grew up in a church that would have dismissed this book or discouraged me from reading it because it’s so revealing. I think it’s important that Peretti shared what God had shown him so we can understand things unseen. It’s important to know that the decision I make has spiritual consequences not just physical ones. There is so much to learn from this book. I’ve never read the second book. I’m game for reading it with you.
Thank you! I agree. It's easy to forget that the physical world isn't the only one. And if we believe in the creation story, the spiritual was the first realm anyway! ok, I definitely want to do the same thing with the second book with everyone!
I read this book several years ago per my mom's recommendation and I did like it. I've never read the sequel. It's been long enough, I would like to read it again. Enjoyed the vlog!
I love hearing your heart in this vlog and how impactful this book has been for your faith!
Yay lone vlog this is going to be fantastic!
This was one of my first ever Christian books that I read which opened my eyes to how powerful prayer is and how it makes a difference! I always think of when Jesus marvelled at the faith of the centurian(?) When he says if Jesus said it, it would happen because he had men under him and when he said go here, he would. Hope that made sense, lol! Loved this book and glad you read it!
Yes, I know what you mean! I so easily forget in His power because the world tells me that He isn't active or doesn't love me enough to intervene. I need to stay rooted in the Bible to remember the Truth! Books like this help me do that :)
I'm about to start reading this book. I'm very excited!
This review was VERY helpful! I've always known of this book and the author but never read any of his work......Now I'm going to!
God bless you and yours thanks for this
I bin forever trying to understand the night terrors that I always had growing up as a child and thanks to this book helped me understand what it was thank you God for another day
I am so excited you loved this book! I tell everyone I can about this book! It’s life changing! It’s the most realistic fiction book I’ve ever read!! I’m gonna pull this out and read it again!! He is an excellent author! His books he does with others aren’t my favorite but just his books I really enjoy
That’s so awesome! I know, I’m thrilled that I loved it so much. Definitely a new all time favourite!
I am about to start this book just listening to you in this video. I already have it on my audible wishlist.
Thanks for this book review. I'm going to get it cause u made it sound so good. I love books about angles and demons and the realm unseen.
I had this vlog saved in my Comfort BookTube folder. I just found this book on Hoopla & hope to get to it soon. You made it sound like a really good read!
Hi I just joined and uploaded my first video so I started looking up videos for ideas etc and I found you and this!! This is the book I was planning to read next. I took it off my shelf today so this video is exciting!! Thanks for sharing and nice to meet you!!
Hi! Welcome! I see all your comments and on instagram too💕 happy you’re here!!
Great video! I haven't read it yet, but found myself nodding multiple times throughout the video. I'm not bothered by your discussion of the book, but instead, very encouraged and excited to pick it up for a November read. I'd be very interested in a read along with you for the second book!
I'm just about to re-read this book. I recommend both This Present & Piercing the Darkness. 1st visit to your blog & new subbie!
I have to say I prefer the sequel. But both books are completely amazing. I remember when the book came out and the buzz it had in the Christian community and our church was in the mist of it. So glad you liked it. It’s not the book for only the liking it’s a book of changing lives.
Fascinating you prefer the sequel! That makes me happy and hopeful that I will like it a lot too! Thanks for watching Christine😊
Glad you got this one read and enjoyed it. I think you'll like the sequel as well. Peretti is one of my favorite authors, I just wish he came out with titles more often. I still have his latest "Illusion" waiting to be read, which I'm looking forward to.
The Oath is probably my favorite of his outside this series. He also wrote a non-fiction titled "The Wounded Spirit" that was good, and he shared part of his own story in it.
I would say I didn't care for "House" which he co-authored with Ted Dekker (and I do like some of Dekkers stuff), and "Visitation" wasn't my favorite. I think you'll enjoy most of his titles though.
Have you read The Screwtape Letters by CS Lewis? Story wise it's not the same thing as this, but I think it is comparable in that it's thought provoking on the topic of spiritual warfare.
Thanks Nathan! I looked through his books on goodreads and he doesn't have as many as I expected. He writes strange sounding books that's for sure! I am interested in The Oath and Monster so far.
I have read The Screwtape Letters a number of years ago, and I definitely didn't appreciate as much back then. I need to read it again now that I've read This Present Darkness.
I read the books years ago but I just ordered them for my husband. I hope he likes them!!
Great vlog!!!
If you've ever thought about doing a reaction video, the "Redeeming Love" trailer came out today!! ;)
I saw that it did, and I have saved it! Maybe I'll put that in a vlog!
This was my very first Christian fiction and I loved that it was thrilling and scary at times. One of my all time favorites. I read this back in college (12 years ago) but haven't read the sequel yet.
Wow that’s awesome! Consider reading the sequel with me when I announce it!
I need to read this book. From what you say I think I read a similar book recently.😀 There were angels and demons, but the action set during the fall of Jericho. Your book is probably better because it deals with the time after Jesus.
I like the pumpkin llol
I enjoyed this book when I read it a couple years ago, but listening to you talk through your thoughts has me loving this book even more!!!!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻
Also, can you text me a pic of your fav quotes??
I was just re-watching this video, and although it was not Babylon it was Daniel (a BC time frame), read Daniel chapter 10. Specifically focus around Daniel 10:10. I love thinking of being “heard” -I find a lot of comfort in knowing this.
Beautiful. I read it too. It’s unbelievable that we get to have such a good God
Great job articulating the book
@@OceanaGottaReadEmAll this was my pick for the book club and I'm going tonight and I got tangled in some of the stories because I was listening to the audio. Once you walk out of the room you lose what's going on. Your synopsis kind of pulled everything together for me. Like most people on here I read this in my twenties and absolutely fascinated change my life could not put it down. It made the verse pray without ceasing come to life and the necessity of why. The whole point is the Angels need the prayer covering and there was that story in the Old testament where the Angels were held up in warfare and it could not get through but prayer brought them through. And we know the incense of our prayers go up to the Father
@@TruthInspector I’m glad I could help!
This would be a fantastic book club pick. I hope your discussion went well!
I believe the answer to your question that you asked at the 18:00 mark can be found in Daniel Chapter 10. I'm not 100% but if you read it may give you more insight. Just a thought. Really enjoying your channel!
There is a movie on Tubi called Divination that sounds like it is a lot like this book I haven’t read the book. The movie is crazy and classified as a horror because it is about angels and demons and there was some scary stuff! I would check out the trailer for anyone who isn’t into horror or demon movies.
Interesting! I’ve never heard of that movie. Does it follow Christians or mostly the angels & demons?
@@OceanaGottaReadEmAll it’s a mixture of both it’s about a couple trying to have a baby and the wife gets into witch craft and they have angels that are watching over them and protecting them so you see both the couple and the angels and demons fighting.
@@AlissaReads33 cool, that does sound similar to this book! Thanks for mentioning it😇
I just “googled” Divination movie, and there was a trailer. I clicked on it and it took me directly to the movie (full length is over an hour). I’m not ready to watch it, but thanks for sharing! I think it’s really really important to know what’s going on in the spiritual world. We don’t have eyes to see, but there is scary stuff out there. Especially if a person is not a child of God. Skay-ree!! Praise God for His protection🙏🏼
@@kamidsjournee awesome I’m glad you found it! It is a scary movie! It will really make you think too.
I just ordered this as a box set and it looks like it’s a trilogy and the second one is The Prophet I thought it was just two books with the next one being Piercing the Darkness until I ordered it. Edit: maybe not The Prophet looks like a stand alone.
Cool! I've never heard of The Prophet. Have you read any of the books before or are they new to you?
@@OceanaGottaReadEmAll I haven’t read any of them. As a teen I had This Present Darkness and I might of had Piercing the Darkness I don’t remember but I never read them. Now I can’t find them so I got the set I really want to read them now though!
I have not read this book, but it was suggested to me almost 25 years ago. I tried to read it, but found it was hard to get into. But, you bring up a good point, about 7 years ago I started praying in tongues every day for 1 or 2 hours because i wanted to see how it would impact my life. I did it while I went out for long hikes or when I was driving places. And it really changed my life dramatically for the better. I was always poor and struggling in life and had health problems and had been through a divorce and a few bad relationships (when I wasn't much of a prayer but still a saved Christian). But then after praying like this for about a year, my health dramatically improved, I met the absolute perfect man of my dreams and married him, and have not had financial problems since. Prayer is so powerful, and when all these things happened to me I realized this and how much God really cares about me personally. Prayer is truly amazing. I notice that it just seems to make everything in life go easier and smoother. And my faith in God has greatly increased. I think I would like to try to read this book again! It sounds interesting and i love things that are contraversial. I really liked this vlog. Thanks for making it!
I love your testimony Lorie. Thank you for sharing. I agree that prayer is a powerful connection we get to have with God. Praise God that He brought redemption to your life and proved Himself faithful. It's such a good reminder of His goodness :)
