Marge's best line for me is not how she called out Mrs. Muntz habit in the end but how Nelson should be loved. "I didn't give your son charity, I gave him self-respect." We've always been taught with ambiguity that "Mothers know best" when the truth is Mother's love varies and can be biased if not given proper criteria. The best gift we can teach children is still the choice to live with dignity even if family backgrounds can be nasty. This is the kind of love that guides but doesn't dictate. Rewards but doesn't spoil. Respect for Marge here.

I met his mom, and although I didn't interact with her very much, she seemed like a nice enough lady. She wore a nice dress, mingled with the other families of the graduates, as well as the teachers, other staff, and of course me and the rest of our friend group. I had heard these pretty awful-sounding stories about her from Boyd, though Boyd had been known to exxagerate various things about his life, etc., but I thought she was nice. Not long afterward, me and my friends had been hanging out in the city where Boyd lived, so we dropped him off at their house. We didn't even need to come to the door, because as soon as she heard our voices approaching their house, she yelled at Boyd from her bedroom window, because he was out later than he said he'd be. I can of course respect a parent wanting to make sure their kid was safe and staying out of trouble, but she sounded absolutely shitfaced drunk. Not at all like the lady we saw at the graduation. But now I knew why.he said his relationship with her was strained, She was very much drunk, and looked, there is no easy way to ssy this, but she looked "trashy: minus the panties falling off.
@Hulk2k6 Tress did nearly every single woman on that show with the exceptions of Amy(Lauren Tom) LaBarbara(Dawnn Lewis) and the one voice Leela(Katey Sagal). Lauren and Dawnn occasionally helped Tress, but Pamela Hayden(Milhouse) helps her full time. That’s a real backup.
That’s what the writers do with basically any female characters, especially when Tress MacNeille is there to voice them. She does over half the women on the show and they’re not very funny. However, Tress can pull off an Emmy worthy performance as the hated Agnes Skinner. That’s what she did in The Principal and the Pauper.
See characters like Maude Flanders aren't particularly funny either but I feel they serve their purpose and are not intended to ne funny. In my opinion the writers attempted to make Nelson's mom funny. In the Simpsons movie when she joined in with Nelson with his "ha ha s" was painfully unfunny. My opinion is lot of her character feels forced.
