While what she did is horrific, Jessica really needed help which her family and fundamentalist church refused to get her no matter how much she tried to get it. They’re also to blame for her. This sounds like postpartum psychosis, not just depression.
I like hearing that their parole has been denied- getting their hopes dashed each time. Like Patricia Columbo, it’s only a little of the pain she deserves.
Every case is likely different. As some folk are just driven to insanity by those that they call family. Being that no one knows what goes on behind closed doors. I think individuals that purposely committ bad deeds for money and gain, and get caught......... will usually think, was it worth it. That first woman (in her old age) looks like she was in the same daze that they found her in way back when she committed the crimes.
The irony of the oh lord at the end. Thankfully my faith didn't deny the benefits of medicine and doctors. They may not promote certain things but they want us to seek help if needed. This is a dangerous game to play.
I don't understand people who decide to take other down with them! I am sorry but I cannot empathize with Kelly Silk. RIP to the sweet kids and her husband! They deserved better.
You do not have to understand, you just have to acknowledge the existence of severe diseases such as depression, postpartum depression and psychosis. These types of illnesses can totally make people do unthinkable things, specially when combined with trauma (such as the one she went through as a child). She was sick, obviously she was not thinking clearly, and was not able to get the help she needed because of her religion. That does not excuse her unforgivable action which ultimately caused her husband and her kids' deaths, but I am saying this to you to make you see that we cannot judge it without passing through the same things she had... she was severely ill and unfortunately was not able to be helped before this tragedy, which could totally preventable.
@@theimpossiblemary Where exactly did I imply I was judging her? I just couldn't sympathize with her that's all. And you don't have to enlighten me on what depression does to people. I know what mental instability make people do but stabbing toddlers to death ain't one of them. One must have some sort of evil instinct in them to be indulging in something like that. Even notorious killers were believed to have suffered from mental illness which landed them on killing spree. On the other hand, dozens of people are going through the same phase yet never even think about hurting others let alone their own families. So it all boils down to their instincts and what they are capable of doing.
@@theimpossiblemary - "Post partum" is such a cop-out. You think women "snap" because they're overwhelmed with 4-5 kids? I find it in poor taste to try and use the phantom "post partum" as an excuse when women commit the most repulsive atrocities.
RIP to the victims. I live with ptsd on a daily basis and I haven't killed anyone. Stop blaming mental health issues on people who commit evil. I'm sick of that excuse
Right? I mean mental instability is at play to some extent, but these people are way past just that.No one would go to this length to hurt their loved ones unless they are straight up evil.I hate how many people in the comments are pinning it on their mental health condition.
All you’re doing is acting superior to people who have it worse than you, mentally and/or chemically. People don’t kill other people because they’re doing ok, and just feel like it.
Sometimes I just have to pause a video and just let the tears flow....they are all horrifying and heartbreaking, but the second one, what that poor little girl went through,just.....I pray that she is doing well today 😪🙏🏽
I have no actual comment to make--I just wanted to say thank you for being consistently awesome. My whole family listens to you now, and we talk about the cases out loud together... You feel like part of our 'family.' :)
Someone already dealing with depression or feelings of being overwhelmed will not benefit from having another child. Their hormones run rampant post-partum along with dealing with a new baby is a crazy-making combination. This is a real problem that is exasperated by those that don't agree with taking medications or believe that they should just "get over it" . The stigma has gotten less but is still abundant. Feelings like wanting to harm should always be discussed with your doctor! If medication gets you through this point then thats the intelligent thing to do. Don't listen to the naysayers do what will make you mentally healthy!
I concur they need more help and positive influences in their life. I really think our brains r made to help others w mental health issues w meds and talk therapy.
I studied the Columbo case and you left out an important fact which was proof without reasonable doubt that Patricia was participating in the murders even the mutilation of her brother could only be done by her. Cause they found a hair on Michaels body that was intwined in one of his wounds, it was Patricias and the forensics proofed that it could only be left by the killer who stabbed him.
Last story; "I've got 5 kids and dumped my wife for a dumb young Chick with no conscience at all. Let me see....how much worse can I make things for myself, and other people as well? I mean, no one will guess I had anything to do with these murders." Prisons must be full of genius level criminals like these. So great to see they kept these two inside; they sure didn't age well in prison.
I wonder what this church thinks about their approach to mental health issues now. Seems to me that their religion based healing did this woman zero good....and that seems to be the case for many people. There is a reason that doctors exist.
It’s important to remember there are 3 things people never get over. Losing a child, losing a child to suicide, & the loss of a parent to suicide. These children are more than likely prone to repeat what their parents have done for reasons such as guilt or low-self worth. They think they were not important enough for their parent to stick it out or that they were to blame. Kelly Silk is a very sad & possibly preventable story to those who are knowledgeable in their mental awareness of familial suicidal history 😞
I agree, and it would have been so beneficial if someone saw her signs and understood that she had postpartum depression as well and helped her to get the help she so desperately needed. Her story is so sad to me because a part of me feels like it's something that could've been prevented
Im a child of suicide. I was 15 months old when I lost my mom. My son is 16 months now. I could never imagine leaving my son, or him growing up and living with the pain I do every day. Every Birthday, every holiday, everything for the psst 27 years has involved going to a grave yard. At some point, I plan on putting a sand box so my son can 'play' with the grandma he will never meet earth side.
Even without depression, a crying baby can be very very stressful. Having lots of small children and really wear a person down, I have two under 5 and some days you can just lose it, with post natal depression and anxiety added that’s just a disaster.
Absolutely. Especially if you already had C-PTSD or severe depression before having a baby. Not getting sleep or support can push that person to their limits. I didn't feel human many days. I never envisioned picking up a knife and harming my kids, but the crying on top of everything felt like too much sometimes.
People are aware that there is no law that forces a couple to produce children, right???....if one or both have some underlying fragility issues.....hey.....there are several ways BOTH can prevent pregnancy.....if a woman is not aware until AFTER baby #1.....how about PASSING on babies # 2, 3 & 4.....huh????....just a thought......

I was terrified of not bonding with my kids. Everyone told me that u get this overwhelming feeling of love as soon as u see them. It did not happen like that for me with my first pregnancy. In the second story, the church is certainly partially to blame for insisting she not take medication and get proper help for her mental illness. I also found it sort of strange that the two of the four children to live were the ones she attempted to kill. It was the other little ones that didn't make it. Maybe if she'd realized she hadn't actually killed Joshua, she would have stopped herself from harming the rest of her family. Very sad and hard to understand... I have a new baby and I wouldn't dream of harming him, even when he is driving me crazy with his crying!

Giving birth to a child doesn't make someone a mother unless she dedicates her life to nurturing her kids and bringing them up with love and care! A mother can never hurt her child, let alone kill them. All these devious women who ended up killing their kids never had mother in them. May all those poor souls who lost their lives in the hands of these monsters find peace on the other side.
They were mentally ill people who needed serious psychological treatment they never received. Serial killers who rape and murder for pleasure are monsters, not these women with serious psychological issues(apart from last one, she just was a psychopath). It's sad really.
@@Exxy6965 I am sorry but mental illness doesn't justify the killing rampage. The first one didn't sound like she had issues at all. She was just mad her kids were going to stay with her ex-husband so she threw a hissy fit. As for Kelly Silk, she was actually ill and needed help. But I still don't feel sorry for her after having learned how she stabbed her baby repeatedly and almost incinerated her! I have come across people with worse case but they wouldn't even imagine hurting their loved ones. These women were more than sick. You are kind of siding with them highlighting their mental illness which was definitely not the only reason why they killed!
@@Dasboot1992 what do you mean it doesn't justify? That IS the reason they killed. Look at the second case. A religious fanatic husband (and her) with kids coming one after another. She goes to priest and he tells her, ofc, you don't need medicine, all you need is god. This happened before and will happen again. If anything, priest should be blamed more for those murders than the women who was mentally ill. And the fact that 'you know somebody' doesn't mean a thing. You might know somebody but you know nothing about how mental illness works and how extreme can it be to human psyche. You also said that the first woman was simply mad - mad women with stable health don't go on a killing spree, not in this case. That's why I said it is sad, and you blaming those poor women (the first two cases that is) is quite shallow to be fair.
@@Exxy6965 Okay slow down! You seriously sound like you are indirectly justifying what they did and that's sick. You cannot just blame it all on mental illness just like that. I already said Kelly was ill and needed to get help. People who didn't step up to help her are somehow responsible. But you are saying them and her mental condition should be solely blamed for what she did? She legit stabbed infants, poured gasoline on her daughter repeatedly! Are you telling me it was simply a consequence of her mental breakdown? And as for the first woman, she was 100% guilty. She was angry and vented out the most sinister way. You cannot change that very fact by screaming mental illness. And people never kill when they are mad? What was the third case then? I can name a handful of people who killed just because they were mad. Do your research before you act like ms. know-it-all!
It’s infuriating when a church tries to dissuade people from taking the medicine they need. If Kelly had been under a doctors care instead of just praying more she may not have butchered her family.
The church should have been held responsible for Kelly. She clearly teached out for help and they should have helped her with medication. Those kids and ahe coukd still be alive. That story is so heartbreaking. Postpartum depression is scary and so real.
It's not the Church's fault she did what she did. The Church should have given her medication, what are you talking about? Not to mention it was 60 years ago! What medication do you think they would have given her to help, lithium or electroshock therapy? It comes down to this with some people, when a woman commits a crime someone else is *always* responsible.
@@IChIDH if you onkw someone is in need of medication and the counseling is not working as her "caregiver" they should be held responsible. Shirley was squirrely. Depression, maybe, but that was too many deaths. Too many deaths for it NOT to be what it was. Premeditated murder. Kelly Silk, THAT poor woman was let down by her husband, and her church family. It was a completely preventable situation. I do feel terrible for the children that lived and passed. I also feel terrible for Kelly. PPD mixed with PTSD, and chronic depression is a terrible mixture. I can attest to that from personal experience. The last one, that is a heartless woman. Her baby brother and parents....?😭
@@OriginalWhiteDevil hey, you don’t have to sympathise at all. What Kelly Silk did was beyond awful. But she was still a human being who lived a horrible life. Had she survived, she would deserve to rot in jail, but the severity of cruelty perpetrated in her crimes does not negate her humanity
Kelli Silk's story sounded tragically similar to Andrea Yates's bathtub drownings of her own children. (A couple's religious beliefs interfering with medical advice/treatment for postpartum depression/psychosis)
Man where do you get these stories? I thought I'd heard them all, but there's always a few here that's new to me. Thinking I'm in shock over how many depraved murderers there are out there! So depressing.
I love how the comments are so sympathetic to the people who violently murdered their loved ones (including young children) in this, usually when I watch true crime documentaries there is a lot more hatred and boiling rage towards the murderers, even when they have mental illnesses or other external factors like an abusive upbringing. Hmmm...so strange, I wonder what's different about these ones?
Many people believe in a literal interpretation of the Bible and still value, respect and use medicines, doctors and hospitals. Forbidding medical care is not Biblical or found anywhere in the Bible. The Bible does not speak against medicine or doctors in any.way. In fact, one of Jesus’s disciples was a Physician, Luke. Prohibiting medical care or doctors is not Biblical but a man made rule , or from church “ legalism”. Medicine and medical knowledge is a gift and a blessing, no reputable church would forbid it.
I think when Kelly snapped because the baby was crying and choked him she believed that he was dead and in her depressed state she may have also had a physchotic break that made her believe that she needed to her husband to save him from the grief of what she had done. And when her daughter came in she tried to kill her to save her from living with the trauma of what she had witnessed. And then she tried to kill herself and the other two children so they would all die together and possibly be together again in the afterlife. I mean she would have to be insane to do what she did and then believe that she needed to kill everyone and herself right?
It totally shocks me when women do these horrific crimes, not that women aren’t above crime, but damn, thank you so much for this upload ,never heard of, 👍🏻from Florida be safe all✌🏻😷
Speaking of woman killers, isn't the Discovery channel doing a show about Jodi Arias, painting her in a sympathetic light? It's disgusting what people will do for views.
Good God!! These lunatics!! Especially that 2nd story, "pray away the demons that is depression!" And then her husband, let's pump as many kids into you as quickly as possible while we pray away this depression.
Agree. So disgusting. She was totally overchallenged, taking care for all of these children and her husband obviously didn't give a fuck about it. Just continuing getting her pregnant. No wonder she couldn't deal with it anymore and snapped.
Imagine your mom always talking about how Jesus is coming back... every year, convinced it was going to happen. That zapped my ability to envision a future for myself. Yah taking it literally can be really toxic.
How the F can you kill your own kids? I have been guilty of saying “I brought you into this world I can take you back out it” NEVER for a second did I mean it! Never for a second would I consider it! You have to be a special kind of evil to kill your own children x
The "Mom" that actually killed infants and burned her children, wonder how she feels about the flames she's experiencing now. Vile and repulsive, that story made me feel sick. Plenty of people lose parents to suicide and have mental illness and don't do anything like this. Flimsy excuse.
Jennifer and Joshua surviving is miraculous. I hope they healed from this... imagine growing up knowing your mother tried to kill you and DID kill your dad and siblings... Jesus.
Geez, these stories are horrible! These people are truly evil folks, who killed their own families and certainly, have no remorse whatsoever. These were horrendous crimes . Wow. It is evilness at its finest.
As a mom I obviously find all three of these stories incredibly sad, but the first two women I believe were legitimately mentally ill. In story number one, I was thinking about how hard that would be as a mother, to watch each of the children you'd cared for choose their father and his new wife. Not that it makes killing her family ok, obv! For story number two, back-to-back pregnancies with undiagnosed PPD, it's a recipe for disaster. Women in these situations are usually sick and really believe their children will be better off dead with them, in a "better place" than left alone and alive to suffer. Her own past and her mother's suicide surely played into that belief. But number three just makes my blood boil. Anyone who murders their entire family for money, including their young sibling, is pure evil, and the fact that after they were dead she beat them and stabbed them makes me think she was experimenting. Like she wanted to see how it felt. Like she wanted to have been able to murder them up close and personal like that, but it would have been too risky to try to subdue all three of them without shooting them first. She should absolutely spend the rest of her life in prison. She's dangerous. The one good point about that last story is, she turned into an ugly old crone in prison. There's no turning back the clock, honey. She was young and beautiful when she went in, but that's all gone. Oh and the fact that she played madam for the guards in prison just speaks to the fact that she is a sociopath who has not been reformed and should never see the light of day, ever!
there's a girl in Brazil who killed her parents, and had help from her boyfriend and boyfriend's brother. Suzane Richttoffen. She became "a hero" in Brasil, when it was released a movie about her, last year.
I thought my mom was going to kill me, my brother, herself, or all three of us for the entire time I was in high school. My dad took off (this was before cell phones or internet) and didn’t leave a forwarding address, and of course, stopped paying child support. She would beat the living shit out of me with no warning, even sometimes waking me up with a beating. For years. When I got accepted at the state college I felt guilty leaving my brother alone with her, but where I physically could never raise a hand to defend myself, I knew he could. I don’t talk to any of them now. I’m really lucky to be alive.

Agreed
Religious leaders are the worst people to ask for help in this kind of thing!
I like seeing the criminals grow old in prison. Do they ask themselves "was it worth it?"
I like hearing that their parole has been denied- getting their hopes dashed each time. Like Patricia Columbo, it’s only a little of the pain she deserves.
I think they usually have excuses or "reason" it out. Even sitting in prison.
Unlikely, I'd say . Sociopaths have no empathy, conscience or moral compass.
I'm glad they are there but I would rather not pay for it, let them feed themselves
"The church didn't like traditional mental therapy, especially the use medication. Instead, they used biblical teachings for counseling."
Oh Lord-

@Lammy Pie that pretty well sums it up.
the same dummies who believe that are the first ones to go to the dentist with a throbbing toothache when they realize prayer ain't gonna fix it. smh
Unfortunately mental illness is so misunderstood, especially in the past and especially when you add in misguided religion.
Yesssssss
Neither can I.
@@theimpossiblemary - "Post partum" is such a cop-out. You think women "snap" because they're overwhelmed with 4-5 kids? Imagine the father and the pressure he must be under to bring home more more more money to pay for it all. No vacation, no rest, work work work. Where is the "clinical diagnosis" for his stress? I find it in poor taste to try and use the phantom "post partum" as an excuse when women commit the most repulsive atrocities.
Post partum depression is really no joke and can happen to any women. Sad when husbands, family, and pastors minimize it or look the other way.

Right? I mean mental instability is at play to some extent, but these people are way past just that.No one would go to this length to hurt their loved ones unless they are straight up evil.I hate how many people in the comments are pinning it on their mental health condition.
I agree.
I hear there's a link between anti-depressants and murder. The medications are way worse than the mental conditions most of the time.
You're fools if you don't think mental instability contributes more than you'll know to these types of crimes.
All you’re doing is acting superior to people who have it worse than you, mentally and/or chemically. People don’t kill other people because they’re doing ok, and just feel like it.

@E Watts Sorry to bust your balloon, but you missed the point. lol

@@Exxy6965 Agreed. What they did was horrific. Their mental health was a HUGE part of that, especially the second case.
Imagine killing something you carried and raised..
I got scared for a second because I thought Patricia was going to be found not guilty for murdering her family.
You know the story is never going to end well when the phrase "they followed a literal interpretation of the Bible" is included.
