The Dream - Angel's Inspiring Story

- Allow me to introduce you to Angel Padilla...
Angel Padilla has fought through adversity the entirety of his adolescence, from surviving complications at birth, to overcoming the odds he would never walk. Angel was born with Spina Bifida, the most common permanently disabling birth defect, in the United States.
Angel's first few days on earth were greeted with surgeries and medical procedures.
Angel's road, over the course of the next few years, were met with tremendous challenges.
From losing his first sister Aayla due to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, to learning of his 2nd sister Ayprl's battle with cancer, Angel has never lost the faith or the fight.
Angel's doctors warned his parents, Angel may never walk. Angel was intent on proving his doctors wrong, battling through rehab, to be able to walk without the aide of his walker. He served as an inspiration for his younger sister, and used that as motivation, to take those first steps.
Today, Angel is getting stronger, while his sister battles through chemotherapy.
As firefighter/paramedics we have a unique opportunity to affect the lives of our community, not just by applying CPR or removing someone from a burning building, but also by simple things such as making a child feel special.
With the help from the Hialeah Firefighters Benevolent, the city of Hialeah's fire department made a young boy's dreams of becoming a firefighter, a reality. Hialeah's fire station seven, was pleased to host them for Angel's eighth birthday.
They provided both Angel and Apryl uniforms for the day. Provided them a full tour of the station and gave them a little training session inside Hialeah Fire Department's training tower.
At the end of the day, the crew from station seven cooked the Padilla family lunch, surprised them with a birthday cake for Angel, and provided Angel with a gift bag of goodies. Before their visit was over, Chief Phillips handed Angel a key to the station, solidifying his position of honorary firefighter.
This was such a heartfelt experience for not just the crew at station seven, but more importantly Angel and his family, and one that will not soon be forgot.
Proud to be a firefighter. Well done and stay safe brothers.

Although this happened eight years ago, I would like to say Thank You.

It's things like this that make this job the best in the world. You could not pay me enough to do any other job. Knowing I made a difference no matter how small.... Makes it all worth it.

Awesome! Great job by our brothers at HFD!!
having what he has makes this all the more awesome that he is an amazing young man. Spina Bifida is nothing to joke about.
As a retired Hialeah firefighter this brings back many good memories of what we did when i was on shift on a humanitarian basis.
