I am about to spend around $1000 on a pair of 6mm lab-grown alexandrite earrings. They're Chatham grown. For the price, I can't say I'd rather buy natural ahahaha.
I have about 35 carats of facet and cats. I actually put them in a bunch of floating frames and stacked them inside one giant floating frame as art😂. I have a pretty crazy gem collection that i keep in 2 big rolling 🧳 and 1 of them big steel suitcases. I just got an 1889ct jade cabochon today, with another 400cts of smaller pendant size cabochon. 😂 i would love to show my collection to anyone who's interested and knowledgeable.
I love lab stones, I think they are a great alternative to earth mined stones ethically and financially, but I do tend to lean towards natural with Alexandrite. I find I am more attracted to the colors the natural stones have. I would absolutely buy a lab Alexandrite if I found one I loved though!

I've have two rings that change from purple/red to blueish green. I've had them for over 50 years and have never found out if they are actually alexandrite or not, I just love how the color changes whether I'm inside in artificial light or outdoors in natural light. I also find it interesting that in certain situations the stones may show both colors when they are held in changing angles to a light source.
So I inherited a ring with a large round gem that looks like amethyst indoors but when the sun hits it the color is more light blue or bluish-green. I don't know what it is but it's beautiful to me. I thought it might be a manmade alexandrite.
That sounds like an amazing ring and something great to recieve passed down through to you. It sounds like that could be zultanite man made alexandrite has the same color change as real alexandrite. Hope that helps and thank you for watching the video
That sounds like an alexandrite. You should have it tested by a jeweler who is GIA Certified but I wouldn’t let them take the stone in the back and away from you. You should be right there when they test it since natural alexandrites are no longer found to be mined.

Rare and exotic gem collector and dealer here. Well, I thought the video was going to be longer, no big deal. I own over 8 carats of top quality cats eye alexandrite in the rough between two pieces. I had over 30 carats between five pieces, and three pieces found happy new homes this winter. Natural is always better in my opinion, because when you have the natural piece, you can look at it and know it came from nature, and that in and of itself is more breathtaking than a lab-made stone. To me. Now, to note another spectacular color-change stone, I've had two faceted pieces and about 5 carats worth of golden color-change sphene (titanite), and the larger of the two sold for a pretty penny this past winter in Quartzsite AZ, and I have to say, the golden-yellow to reddish-brown is truly astounding as well, and when it's combined with all of the refractory shining outward like reflecting light off of a disco-ball, but in rainbows, it creates another truly breathtakingly rare and beautiful gem. Not fit for everyday wear though. I still prefer cats eye alexandrite and type A dragon's flowing mane imperial jade though, but that's because I like the rarest, most exotic materials. I own a 1.95 carat gem quality specimen of ruby on painite, the painite itself has a druzy style termination going on as well, the piece itself is truly one of a kind.

Sapphires can change color natrally too that might be a good option. Lab grown will allow you to get size at a great price with that color change. Be sure to use a company with many reviews sadly some people sell zultinite as if it was alexandrite

The only lab grown alexandrites I’ve come across were from JTV, which is a reputable online jewelry store; although, JTV discloses that their lab alexandrites are actually lab-grown/lab-created color change sapphires so it actually tests and has the same chemical properties as an earth-mined sapphire. His would one know they are purchasing a natural or lab grown alexandrite? How would they test the stone to verify and what do they look for when they examine the stone with a loop?

Hey Carolyn its a real challange to know the difference but the easy way before sending a piece to have an appraisal. Is checking for inclusions most lab grown stones are free of inclusions. So purchase a jewelry loop from amazon for a couple of dollars and take a look. Now natral stones can be free so this will not prove that its a natral alexandrite but they are extremly highly priced if they are natral and free of inclusions. As an example a well known alexandrite jewelry brand is mark henery alexandrite and natral alexandrtie in from that brand will start at around 50,000 usd for a stone just over 1ct But to be certain of the quality make sure to send your stone to an independant gemoligist and not a gemoligist that sells jewelry. A gia qualified gemoligist is regarded to be the gold standard in the industry Let me know if that helps and if you have more questions Also thank you for watching the video

Have had it forever and the person I got it from also had it for a very long time, but no idea on where it originated. It's mounted in yellow gold as a ring. Has nice color change. I had it cleaned years ago at a pretty fancy private jeweler that knew right off what it was. He said too that if it was real "you couldn't put a price on it" but that also the synthetic ones could fetch a pretty good price. Then proceeded to try to get me to leave it with him. Lol I didn't. That was 20 years ago it's just collected dust in my jewelry box. So now maybe it's time to get it checked out. Thanks again.

I could never buy a lab anything. There is no history or journey. It has no soul. Alexandrite has probably the worst lab colors. they are so blatantly fake it's disgusting, and no color change happens. So what's the point? When it comes to gems, i always say. Just because it isn't perfect doesn't make it less beautiful.

I dont believe they began making lab created Alexandrite until the 1950's. Plus it was first found in Russia. I would get that appraised!

Lab does not at this stage hold as much value considering the huge value difference lab should be the option if your concerned with cost

Only a expert can tell the difference and they need a machine to tell the difference its 100% just as nice
