It’s interesting as historical document passed down by the ages, and particularly to understand the social psychology of the Jewish people. But to claim any document of oral transmission survived about 1500 years without alterations is of course an absurd claim. And we also know that when the Rabbi compiled the current version he picked and chose what he liked. Other students then wrote and commented so randomly that it’s a hodgepodge of ideas and arguments.
Any jew who has learned the written torah and the talmud can see how each sheds light on the other, and both are needed to accurately understand the wisdom of the torah. Torah wisdom is an acquired perception, as you grow in your learning, your perception of concepts you learned years ago hits you at a higher level. You start to realize you could study your entire life and still never understand the depth of the torah.
Another words, the Talmud is full of small issues that don't really matter, but whereas the Torah is the serious issue. No wonder Jesus attacked the pharisees and how they nullify the word of God..
Precisely! An in-depth look at moral questions through the lens of legal commentary and the ability to understand context within a greater narrative are of no use to anyone.
