HIV Breakthrough at American Gene Technologies Gets Researchers Closer to the Cure

In May 2021, American Gene Technologies (AGT), a clinical-stage biotechnology company, announced the treatment of the first participant in its Phase I clinical trial to evaluate the safety of the cell and gene therapy product AGT103-T. Designated as the RePAIR trial (Restore Potent Antiviral Immune Responses, NCT04561258), participants are infused once with their own CD4 T cells that were enriched, for cells capable of reacting to HIV, and genetically modified to resist infection. This is a first-in-human study for AGT103-T. The primary endpoint is safety; testing related to secondary endpoints evaluates responses to treatment including changes in the immune response to HIV. About AGT103-T
AGT103-T is a genetically modified cell product made from a person's own cells. AGT's approach is unique in that it focuses on repairing the key immune system damage caused by HIV. When HIV infection causes this specific damage, killing of T helper cells required for immunity to HIV, the infected person becomes unable to eliminate the virus and thus, becomes chronically infected. AGT's approach is designed to repair the T helper cell defect and provide durable virus control that is not compromised by HIV strains that vary in sequence or use alternate ways to enter and infect T cells. AGT's AGT103-T HIV therapeutic drug should work to remove infected cells from the body and decrease or eliminate the need for lifelong antiretroviral treatment.

Since finding your research, my days start with hope. I’ve taken HIV medications for 25 years now...I believe their side effects will shorten my life in the end...the price we pay for a “prolonged” life you might say. Everything about your research and method makes sense and acknowledges how far medicine has come with gene technology. For 31 years I’ve read of potential cures that will be made available “in five years”...I believe this time yours will...hopefully sooner than later. With Gratitude.

An expensive cure is still better than no cure as at least the rich will get cured. For the vast majority of people living with HIV, governments need to increase funding for HIV cure research so that a cure gets found quickly. As the COVID-19 vaccine experience has taught us seemingly impossible feats are possible when governments and industry pump in huge money for research and clinical trials.

The information is out there, and publishing research is real hard in well-known journals, which are in no way interested in natural remedies, as they don't turn out any profits for the industry. If you are a doctor, you are in a special position where you can try some stuff and see the results you get. I helped a woman who had lymph node tuberculosis and aids and was given 6 months to live by a famous doctor in Barcelona. I instructed her on how to do a deep intestinal cleansing with psyllium, bentonite clay and mucolytic herbs and a strict diet and she got much better, and then she lived for many years after that with pretty good health, always taking her Reish mushrooms and never touching the medical drugs.

The machine is relatively inexpensive so they will be all over the continent of Africa. You may have one in each major city. Remember the world's first cell phone cost $10,400 in today's dollars. You can buy a $4 cell phone from certain companies in India. It is hard to say how long it will take for this technology to drop in price, but it is inevitable. Companies that are larger already have the facilities to perform these types of modifications so they may be able to drop the price due to economies of scale.

unless there is an incentive for either the company who makes this or the government, things don't happen. There are gene editing therapies for other conditions available but unless it is commercially viable, it never happens. Real sad.

Up to 1:50, he’s describing how regular medicines work... meds Block T-cells from acquiring new HIV infections. Monthly injectables do the same thing. Is the video saying that they allowed our immune system to replicate how ARV’s work to: stop replication of the virus, and stop reinfection... fast enough to prevent resistance?
