First, there are the long and annoying ads interrupting the program many times. Second, the content is contradictory. The crown stolen was sufficient and necessary to become king. But after the crown was stolen and the infant initiated under the right crown, a Polish candidate was elected and crowned by an “Ersatzkrone”. And what happened when the crowned infant after some years did inherit the title? Was he crowned again? Third, the royal hierarchies are muddled and the program makes no attempt to clarify them. Who was king where - Bohemia, Hungary, Austria? It is said that Elisabeth fled to Ödenburg under the protection of the Habsburg emperor Friedrich III. But what about the Polish king then? The essential point that the program makes (three times!) is that men and women were equal in the Middle Ages. The whole plot and presentation seems only to serve this purpose. This is what happens when programs about History are left over to media producers with little historical background: Contradictions, confusions and political correctness. Simon Schama, bless you!

So so. Isa das der berühmte österreichische Schmäh?

Bella gerant alii, tu felix Austria nube.
