Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Wish is an all-new musical-comedy welcoming audiences to the magical kingdom of Rosas, where Asha, a sharp-witted idealist, makes a wish so powerful that it is answered by a cosmic force-a little ball of boundless energy called Star. Together, Asha and Star confront a most formidable foe-the ruler of Rosas, King Magnifico-to save her community and prove that when the will of one courageous human connects with the magic of the stars, wondrous things can happen.
The film is helmed by director Chris Buck (“Frozen,” “Frozen 2”) and Fawn Veerasunthorn (“Raya and the Last Dragon”), and produced by Peter Del Vecho (“Frozen,” “Frozen 2”) and Juan Pablo Reyes Lancaster Jones (“Encanto”).
Jennifer Lee (“Frozen,” “Frozen 2”) executive produces-Lee and Allison Moore (“Night Sky,” “Manhunt”) are writers on the project. With original songs by Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Julia Michaels and Grammy-winning producer/songwriter/musician Benjamin Rice, plus score by composer Dave Metzger, Wish opens only in theaters on November 22, 2023.

King Magnifico was the real hero of this movie. Think about it, the guy sees that some wishes are just inherently bad for the world. He doesnt kill or lock anybody away for it. Just keeps the wishes themselves contained. He's the voice of reason.
The wishes themselves aren’t what’s locked away, but it’s the memory/desire of the wish. Asha argues that these desires encompass an integral part of one’s identity, and she questions in this clip why keep their desires? He doesn’t actually answer. He responds that a) people are unwilling or unable to complete the wish and b) reiterates the terms and conditions for the wish.
In a way, yes, but he takes it too far. He isn't protecting these wishes, he's holding them as leverage both to make people do what he wants and because he likes having that power over them. Just because some wishes are bad doesn't mean everyone should be denied the chance to pursue them. Free will always comes with risk, and unfortunately there's just no avoiding some using it for bad reasons. And it should be noted that Asha doesn't want everyone to have their wish granted, just for everyone to have a fair chance, which is the least anyone deserves.

so, this is basically just Dr. Maruki from Persona 5, but just pure evil.... great...
She ends up destroying that whole kingdom due to her own ego.

@@DragonGoddess18that would have actually been a great plot twist with Asha realizing that you can't always get what you want. Hell, Bruce Almighty taught us that very lesson by showing us the chaos and discord that would arise if everyone got their prayers granted. You can keep Magnifico as a narcissistic, tyrannical, gaslighting, and manipulative douchebag obsessed with maintaining his power. But have it be that Asha has no choice but to team with him to restore order to the kingdom.

@@hakai1014she’s not disagreeing that not all of them should be granted, just that the ones that aren’t dangerous should be returned. That’s pretty reasonable
@@dragonstouch1042that's still a bit of a reach. Who decides which wishes are and aren't dangerous? Because if Bruce Almighty taught us anything, it's that you can't always get what you want and actions have consequences.
