- The Farm Hand’s Companion channel is dedicated to inspiring folks toward resourcefulness and self-sufficiency, through demonstrating the skills and knowledge of the traditional subsistence farm. Watch as Pa Mac provides a little bit of homestead how-to and a little bit of farming history, as well as demonstrating how to make or fix up all kinds of things. (And even build outbuildings like log chicken houses, sheds, or barns!)
Be sure and subscribe to the Farm Hand's Companion channel to see a variety of different shows dedicated to farming and homesteading: The Farm Hand's Companion Show, My Favorite Farm Tool, The FHC Q & A Show with Pa Mac, FHC Farm Bulletins, and FHC Extras.
Also visit www.farmhandsco... to find articles, posts, photographs, and encouragement for today's self-sufficient farm or homestead. (And be sure to check out the General Store for books (like Pa Mac's "Building an Old-fashioned Pole Barn") or DVD's by Pa Mac at www.farmhandsco...)
The best channel on UA-cam.
I really wish more people knew about your channel. The world would be such a better place if everyone had a small garden and a few chickens
Kind of you to say, Bryan
The world would be in a far better place today if we stepped back and started doing things the way our ancestors did. Cheers :)

Many of your video's only remind me of my child hood and what we did back then on the farm. I hope your channel grows and continues on. Personally, "thank you" for sharing, thank you for recording the lost knowledge of yesteryear. Cheers :)

Dear Pa Mac, I've got wooded land in Northern Alabama. There are so many different pests besides mosquitos that I want to eradicate. Mostly the vast assortment of wasps. I would like honey bees eventually, but I want to eliminate ever other one. Some eat wood, some build paper nests, some mud nests. They act like it their property around my cabin. I was a live and let live until I got stung a couple times. I'd like to know every thing I can do, and every wild creature that could help me in this war. PS ditto horse flies.
A few people here have commented on how the world would be better if we all lived as our forebears did. There is a minor problem that I see with that sentiment. That being back in 1912 when my grandparents married the world population was about 1.6 billion (1,600,000,000) people. Today in 2024 there are an estimated 8.1 billion (8,100,000,000) people. The world's land mass is about 36.8 billion (36,800,000,000) acres of which only about 3.45 billion (3,450,000,000) acres are arable. Which equates to about 0.42 acres per person on this planet. No one is growing more land.
Owning a simple roof over one's head is a pipe dream for a lot of people today, let alone land to work and earn an income from. Especially when so many young (and older) people can't afford to pay rent.
I think that's a great question for discussion on the FHC Q & A show, Frombie. Thanks so much, and for watchin' as well!
Where's that Q&A section!! My fun work came to a halt 2 weeks ago (mid July) when we found small grey hornets or yellowjacket nests down in the grass about every 12 feet. Not in the dirt, on top. They are between orange and grapefruit size. We mowed, using a riding mower, then we could see little grey balls of paper nests all over! I got stung 6 times one day when i started to plant a flower in some leaves. Is this a plague anywhere else? I am afraid to weedeat or mow or even walk. I never heard of this happening in my life.
Whoa, that sounds terrible. I've never seen that happen, Greta, but maybe somebody here will comment.
Thanks. It occurred to me that these tiny hornets multiplied because they got over-fed. I've been planting buckwheat & clovers.
I miss the fiddle
Old viewer here. LOL
❤
Best channel on UA-cam, hands down.
