Hi Adam, thanks for the honest review. As a hobby filmer, I also got the S1H now for a year. Re the autofocus, there was a video recently, explaining that one needs to re-confirm it once it lost the object. I had never heard about this before and will give it a try. Re corrupted file, I would strongly recommend to everyone to set in the menu of the S1H file autosplit option which makes the camera to write the footage as many smaller files onto the card rather then generating huge files. So, if things go wrong you only lose a small fraction of your shot. Working with those smaller files is simple as e.g. Davinci resolve automatically recognizes which smaller files make up one shot. Hope this helps you and others to make life a bit easier with this beast.

I got a more or less new s1 totally rigged out with cage, card, mattebox, adapter etc etc for £1500... I think for the price, it's amazing.
Thanks man! Yeah the S1 is an absolute beast. I agree the A7S3 is probably the most versatile with frame rates, but the picture quality on the S1/S1H is ridiculous considering the price. The S1 is probably one of the most under rated cameras out there right now IMO. Thanks for watching! Hope you are enjoying the S1!
the panasonic lumix S1H is by far the best pro camera on the market today as of 2022, it's even better than some of your $12,000 cameras you really don't need anymore
A couple other features that are missed a lot for me with reviews about the S1H key features are the sensor size modes (video only. my favorite feature. I run with two lenses 35mm and 85mm zeiss primes and this feature extends each focal length to 2 additional focal options) and also the focus lens control (super under rated for people using manual focus for all the new fly by wire lenses. The focus can be made linear and also set the ring rotation range. Has been reserved only for Panasonic lenses but recently a few sigma lenses have mentioned firmware updates that allow this feature). Anyway interesting to see how other S1H users approach their work!
That you for taking your time to leave a comment. I totally agree about the sensor crop options coming in handy but I don’t find myself using it super often. I do really love the linear focus system on the lenses, I hope other manufactures implement this. Great to hear from you, like I said in the video I came from the Sony A7S2 so that’s where a lot of my opinions come from. Thank you!
What a great video! You somehow went over everything really comprehensively and did so in less than 6 minutes, nice haha. It's such a shame that these cameras are just not usable with autofocus - I have an S1 and like that it's made me get better at doing it manually, but it would be really great to just be able to set and forget it like other cameras. One criticism I have, and I don't mean to come across as rude with this, is the use of slower cards and then being shocked when things don't work out. You mentioned that you'd had data corruption during paid/important gigs, but using decent cards is pretty fundamental in taking it seriously to begin with. They don't stop you from going ahead with it because if you only want to shoot a few seconds here and there it's fine. You've probably totally switched over to V90 now but I was just surprised to see user error listed as a fault against the camera.
Thank you for your comment! I really appreciate your input. I do own six Sony Tough V90 cards now which has alleviated the situation. Although I do believe if the camera allows you to use slower cards, users should not be punished, or at least warned that it might lead to file corruption. Luckily I found this out while recording youtube videos and not any paid jobs. It is a flaw of the camera not user error, yes we should always invest in our gear and buy the proper storage. As great as this camera and the S1 are, they still have problems and I think that is important to tell people who are considering buying them. Thank you for your comment, I hope you love your S1!

Do you hear / feel sounds of parts gently shifting or any rattling noises or is it dead quiet? @@adamontoya ah ok so it’s not as overpowered as some have said though I wish they’d let us turn off NR.
What is your experience with the stabilization? Is active comparable with the S1H’s really good stabilization?
@@Alexrocks1253 yeah from my experience it’s not as bad as what people have been saying but it is something to be aware of. I do wish it could be controlled. The S1H has better IBIS but the A7S is still very good. I use tripods and gimbals a lot so I haven’t been able to test it too much but I can say the S1H is definitely a little better for handheld shooting.
Love this, love you ❤️
you mention autofocus issues and often in the commments. Do you have a recommendation of a similar video centered camera in the same price range with better autofocus?
From what I’ve heard, if autofocus is a deal breaker, then the Sony A7S3 or FX3 are probably the best options. I also own an FX9 which has killer autofocus so I can only
Imagine how good those cameras are.
So, how’s the autofocus now?!!! And what camera are you using now?!! Thank you!
Was the snowboard shot really at that iso? Wow
Yeah! There was almost no light so I put the camera in the high ISO mode and turned the ISO up to 25,600. Blown away by the low light performance.
any data on the card that didnt work with this camera please ? thanks
Yes I have had problems with that as I mentioned in the video. Most S1H users have had a similar experience, at least those I’ve spoken with.
@@jmilton1069 I’m mostly using the Sony Tough 300mb/s cards and haven’t had as many issues since I started using theses.
what types of settings did you map to the FN buttons? there's so many I don't know what to do
Haha I know it’s quite overwhelming!
The button on the front of the camera is “status screen” to toggle between information on the status screen.
I have the right arrow as LOW/HIGH gain
Down arrow as “MY LIST” Recording options
I’ll have to check the rest tomorrow I honestly don’t know all of them off the top of my head
💪💯
One more question. After S5 came out they matched the autofocus capabilities. Is this opinion based on the latest firmware with a Panasonic s lens?
Yes unfortunately I have tried updating the camera and I am mostly using the 24-70 f/2.8 from Panasonic. It is still very slow/ inconsistent and it is a big problem.
I don’t get it. I have better AF performance with the same setup but may be it’s because I don’t use tracking. The auto recognition is something I don’t trust.
Hi Adam, If you pick up and shake your s1h, in various directions, with the power on, but no lens attached, do you hear anything? Do you hear / feel sounds of parts gently shifting or any rattling noises or is it dead quiet? I’m asking, because you have one and I recently dropped my padded camera bag from about three feet and I’m trying to figure out if the noise I’m hearing was present before the fall. In other words, that it’s normal. My camera functions perfectly fine and the fall wasn’t super hard, but still, would like to hear from a real user. Thanks for any and all help!
Are you in the Buffalo area?
I am in Rochester but frequently am in Buffalo
What monitor do you use?
so sh1 or r5 for hybrid shooter ?
S1H is more video oriented so if you do more video I would recommend the S1H, if you do 50/50 or more still than video R5 sounds like a great option. I haven’t used the R5, but personally 24MP is more than enough for what I do.
I have both. I'll sell you my S1H camera kit.
This camera piqued My interest because it has an internal fan.
This is why I'm extremely TRIGGERED when u compare this camera to any other camera without a built in fan. Lol 😂
I'm selling my s1h camera kit if you're interested.
@@Hoyts_Hillside_Farm nah, I don't have the camera yet haha
@@JacReviewsStuff it includes the camera. Body. 24-70 S Pro. Iaowa 12 mm. Audio adapter. Ride mic. Lens adapter for Canon lenses. Asking 4g’s. Will go less if you need
@@Hoyts_Hillside_Farm no Thankyou.
But thanks for asking 👍
@@Hoyts_Hillside_Farm Yo I might be interested if it’s still available
What screen are u using?
Atomos Shogun, I really want to try the Ninja V to record ProRes Raw
AAAARGH AUTOFOCUS 😡 AGAIN PANASONIC?!?! WHY?!?!?!
That this piece of shit is on the Netflix approved cameras list and not the Fujifilm X-T4 is mind boggling. Also uploading in 1080p? What the hell man
