I was very pleasantly surprised on that "full shark option", I think it was a good call on the IP holders to ask that it be included (hopefully those extra pieces don't raise the price too much though lol). Modifying the base to accommodate both the boat and the full shark also seems like it would be fun! That said, if they included an alternate way to build the shark, including a different configuration for the base out-of-the-box so you can display all the things you bought would have been nice, especially for people who may not want to fiddle around with building their own base.
When I lost my dad to cancer last year looking forward to your videos every time new sets released kept me going I'm living with just my mum now and she's going through chemo, again your videos are helping keep me sane. Lego's been a huge part of my life, every year we'd all go to Legoland, I'd always make Lego on the floor while my parents watched telly and the last thing I did with my dad at home was showing him the viking longboat I'd made the night before but when it comes to UA-cam you're the only reviewer I still enjoy watching your opinions and takes and thoughts on value are so refreshing Idk why I rambled so much TL;DR you're great never stop doing what you're doing
Thanks JANG for all you do. I have never been affected by cancer but I am so grateful for influencers like yourself to be able to use your platform (of building lego) to do such great work.
Jaws is one of my favorite movies so this is definitely a buy from me. I’m glad to see that it’s so well done. Now….. if only they would make an Overlook Hotel set from The Shining, my life would be complete
My sister went through Hodgkins Lymphoma in high-school, so I always appreciate the cancer fundraiser. I've watched them before. It's always a relaxing event with Jang.
As a massive Lego and Jaws fan, I'm happy with the set. It would need to be considerably bigger to avoid design compromises on the Orca, and I agree with your criticisms (especially Bruce's tail - that was the first thing I noticed). I'm displaying mine as the diorama, so the tail is not an issue. Great review!
Yes, assembling the bow and the strings is extremely finnicky, and moving the set around is scary af. Anything involving droid arms also really tested my patience. But once it's all assembled and in place, this set is absolutely beautiful.
AHA, found the bell piece on the boat, its a top hat with open top from friends, its not well documented 11:00 yeah figured out that was a crossbow bolt from next knights
Thanks Jang. I built mine yesterday and I do agree with the bow section. For me it was as i put on the transom, and it broke apart inside, mostly the angled sections. I had to rebuild and that was annoying. Other wise 9.9 out of 10
Glad you mentioned the construction of the bow, which I found infuriating. If the assemblies start to move it works parts free deep inside the build (two small blue curves) and needs to be taken apart and reassembled. I really struggled with it and I’m a very experienced builder who rarely finds a build tricky. I honestly think it’s bad enough it shouldn’t have made it through quality control. (Great review as always though Jang).
@@sterow It looks like a MOC and sounds like it’s built like a MOC. For a display model, it’s “ok” but like you said we expect a certain quality of build from Lego
The cancer donations made me tear up. I’ve been watching Jang for well over a decade of my life, and I depended on many of his fun livestreams in early-mid 2021 to help ease my depression caused by the passing of my dad from cancer. I’m very grateful to see so many donations to what seems to be a truly genuine and worthwhile cause.
Thank you so much Jang for all the Cancer awareness you are raising!!!! My Grandfather just passed 2 months ago from cancer so it really warms my heart to see you really trying to help fund research ❤️
As someone who has never seen the movie this set still looks great to me. Not sure why, but the ship kinda reminds me of the ship from the River Expedition set from the Adventurers Jungle subtheme. They're totally different designs but for some reason this reminds me of that set. Keep up the great work Jang!
When Jang said he grew up in amd around boats, I imagined a flashback scene of an 8y/o him with a full beard in a yellow raincoat, covered in oil crawling out of the boat's engine compartment.
Appreciated Jang's knowledge on the subject matter of naval things and the movie (that comes from familiarity with the topic as well as resaerch done in preparation). Like calling the things on the boat by their names and pointing out little details placed by the designer for added realism. To me at least, stuff like that elevates the review and make it feel just a little more special.
The "You're Gonna Need a Bigger Boat" quote is perfect! I was thinking the same thing when I saw the set. Then I saw the label and was like, "Perfect...Mind read!"
Thank you for bringing up the bow section of the boat. I had to redo that portion multiple times and break out glue. The bow is poorly designed and for the life of me I can’t understand why the black pieces on the bottom of the bow section aren’t put on when the bow is disconnected instead of when the boat is together entirely. Great looking piece with excellent details, but the bow is very frustrating.
Thank for the great review. I think the biggest problem with Chief Brody's minifig is that Roy Scheider had a very narrow, long face that's impossible to replicate in Lego without making a different head mold. But I think Hooper's face is pretty good, and as you said, Quint is nearly perfect. And as a huge Jaws fan and a huge Lego fan, I'm really looking forward to getting the set.
I'll be getting this set eventually on sale but rebuilding Bruce back to how he was originally designed. I don't know why they changed his iconic fin, which was a star of the film due to the giant model never working, and chopped the top off to make it flat! Check out how this set used to be, and the shark looks so much better. Great video!
Glad you acknowledged that, I honestly feel like these minifigures are among the best I have ever seen. And yea, the whole thing is really a full-blown success.
Ave Jang. Thank you so much for your carrity work. I already made a donation, llike i promist on your live show yesterday. Keep up the good vibes over on twich. 😁👍
I am one of those Jaws fans, and I just love this set. I haven't purchased it yet, but intend to. I can forgive the tail because it's LEGO, and we can find another way to build it. The designer had a budget to stick to I don't have to worry about. I agree about the gills. They look great even though they are set backwards. LEGO is a restrictive medium to build in, that's what makes it so fun when people come up with unusual piece uses to produce a shape. I'm just happy Bruce has his jowls. I'd be very disappointed if he didn't have them. My guess on Hooper's outfit was that a fig of him from the later part of the movie would have been too plain. He was just wearing a plain gray sweatshirt and jeans. I can get why they went for a look that had more visual interest and stood out more from Brody's clothes since he was wearing gray too. It is pretty impossible to get a really good Roy Scheider without a nose, so I think you're right there. Overall, I've very happy with the figs, especially Quint. That minifig looks like he wants to punch someone. I'd love it if they made Quint into a key chain mini.
Even as someone who's never seen jaws I really like this set. Out of my price range though, no matter how much it comes with. Thanks for the review Jang!
Good Review overall, and although I haven't built it yet, it hasn't changed my opinion that the set is well done. You have pointed out some of the flaws that builders have noticed, and some you haven't? I do however wish that they (Lego) had included the following... A full shark cage for one, a working winch would be the other, the addition of a sound brick with ominous music of the shark approaching, damn! That would have been good. And finally made it bigger, as you're right, this thing was aimed at kids, but only adults can appreciate it, because it is fragile, and it's a look, but don't touch the set, which is a shame as kids love that shark! I think Lego has missed the boat (pardon the pun?) As from what I see was a really good idea, and I hope that in the next Legos ideas venture, they mull-over that!
Love this set. My only gripe is the blocky build of Bruce. 11:30 is not forgivable for me, it's the first thing I noticed and the body could have been built up differently. Maybe MOC makers can use the tail of Bruce to create new mouth that opens properly when he is on the diorama...
I like the idea that if expensive LEGO sets are going to have stickers, have them be on the inside of the model and have prints for the outside. I think Richard Dreyfuss not only looks amazing but to me is one of the best minifigures based on a movie LEGO has made. 😆
The alternate display for the shark was a very very good call by the IP. I’m rather impressed with the method the leg designers used to make that possible. The only complaint I have in that department is the at the display base should have had something to let you display without the shark.
I like the Dreyfuss and Shaw figures, but I agree with you about Scheider's representation. They made him look too angry and the hair is all wrong. That aside, a lovely set for sure. I used to make my own Jaws boat from the old Cabin Cruiser set from 1991 (4011).
The onyl problem I see with the minifigures is that Quint doesn't have a hair and bandana combo to recreate his death scene, but I think expecting that would be unrealistic. I don't know if a printed bandana paired with a hairpiece would've worked either.
I like the minifigures well enough, I guess, but I would have liked to option to swap out some stuff out. The Owen Grady torso would be okay for Matt, the Seinfeld shirt for Quint without jacket. Not sure about hair for Matt though, maybe Senator Palpatine? Not sure about hair for Quint. Any suggestions?
Love the international letter print! That seems new to me. What do the black phone handsets on the roof of the boat represent? Wonderful review, as always. Thanks so much for spending the time doing it, and for doing yet another fundraiser - very much appreciated!
It's a really good looking boat and shark. I just watched the movie again recently and it's pretty spot on. Yeah, Hooper didn't wear that outfit for very long. The figure likenesses do work for me, though. I'm surprised it was the Jaws people that asked for the full shark and LEGO didn't think of it themselves. I appreciate it though. I'm not rolling in dough and and I have other expensive hobbies, so not sure if I'll be able to pick this up for not. I like what's here, though. Thanks for the review. I'm glad to hear the charity drive went so well!
Totally agree with the Bow like you and others have commented on. Seems weird that Lego would decide to only have two one stud connections to hold together. Still love the set and design overall build!
I wish the stand for the shark was designed to look like the animatronic used in the movie, like in the photo you showed in the video. Then it would make more sense to have it separate. Over all it looks really good, but the boat hanging over the edge of the base looks weird to me. Looks like they ran out of parts or something.
Wait, so they still have the revolver mold for this set, idk why they didn't bring that back for the Onyx Cinder set, it would be a more accurate sidearm for Jude Law's character.
I don't know if I'll buy this from Lego. I bought a ripoff of a Rebrickable MOC a few years ago, and then purchased the instructions from the original creator...I even contacted him and noted that his exact instructions were pdf'd to me (other than the first page that said "Don't copy these instructions"). Then there apparently was some Lego drama on Rebrickable and Reddit when a later creator got the green light from Lego for an Ideas set which, to me, looked just like the first one, down to the irritating bow construction. This official one does include a brick-built Bruce, while the MOC only has a fin poking out of the water, but frankly I like the subtle one more. And of course no minifigs with the MOC. And no "Orca" sticker or print on the back (edit: stern). Edit #2: I built a second set from the Rebrickable instructions. I go to Cape Cod most summers and stay at the same house on the shore, and built it when there on vacation 2 or 3 years ago. The caretaker loved it and after two years it's still sitting on the shelf. It fits the lore around there especially now that there are big "shark attack" warnings on public beaches.
You've been a staple of my youtube diet and a favourite way of mine to wind down and relax, so when you ask for support for a lofty purpose I'm proud to chip in ❤
I can’t stop wondering if there should be a piece of the shark’s tail/fin should have been made visible. The way it’s angled just looks like it’s missing that.

It's not Chief Brody in that scene without the cigarette. Shame on Lego for being child friendly ;) *grin* love the look of this set aside from the shark tail.
LEGO Needs To Stop Cost Cutting The Color Shiny Silver On The LEGO Sets When The Sets Need It On Pieces, That’s So Lame And Uncalled For When Lego Doesn’t Want To Put The Shiny Silver Color And Puts The Lame Grey Color When It Should Be Shiny Silver. That Is Such A Big Problem With LEGO. Not Going All For Force With The Big “Premium “ LEGO Sets for “Adults”
I would much much prefer to have a larger, more detailed boat, and no shark and no water. The water, base and shark are a complete waste of parts. The boat is beautiful. It could’ve been larger and more detailed.
The cancer donations really impressed me! I’m glad there was so many.
It was exciting to be part of it and to see Jangs reaction, I think he was genuinely touched.
