  • Here’s a quick video walk-through of our new Allied Boats Wildcat 30’ aluminum catamaran. I still have a few things to tweak/add, but folks were anxious for an update :). I welcome comments and suggestions for ways to make this even better. Ran her on Lake Washington last week. 2 adults, some gear, and 250 gallons of fuel. We hit 6,300 rpm at 47-48 mph. Cruised at 32-33 mph burning 1.38 mpg. Dry weight with Suzuki DF300s is 10,000 pounds.

      I buy the annual oversized load permit from WA Dept of Transportation. They offer monthly permits too, but I don’t want to be trailering and realize that I forgot to renew the permit. It’s about $220 a year. Flags go on the widest parts.

    that is a nice-looking boat, could work well with the new diesel-fuel outboards - then you could even have a grill attachment on a detachable post at the cockpit gunwale ---- and have a hamburger or hot dog on board or even cook a bluefish or two ,,,,

    • @wdlfbio
      @wdlfbio  Рік тому

      When we are salmon fishing, we put the grill on the bait tank. When tuna fishing, we put the grill on the bow seat so we don’t block access to live bait. A buddy showed me these little 12v lunchbox cookers. They’re awesome for heating burritos, pizza, etc. 5-6 little breakfast burritos are usually ready to eat by the time we hit the fishing grounds.

      @@wdlfbio I have never made a pizza on a boat but, I guess if you have a pizza oven you could. Quite a few hamburgers, hot dogs, blue fish - we don't get salmon around here, but we've heard of them. To be honest with you, I'm curious about the new diesel outboards, if they're any good. Diesel is nice because it's non-explosive, and the gas mileage is a lot better, and they tend to be very reliable - the inboards anyway.

    • @wdlfbio

      Giving prices after I sold her to a good friend wouldn’t be proper of me. And, damn inflation alone has jacked prices up. It would be best to call Allied Boats for a current price range. We don’t need AC, just heat, which she has. Next one is getting the new Raymarine 3’ cyclone. Solar, AC, lithium batteries, generator, and even a SeaKeeper are things they can do. Just costs money 😂

    Is it possible to install it with a "Through Hull Transducer" like the "FLIR - RAYMARINE T70319 M RV-220 3D Bronze 20 DEG"? If so, which spot is it best to install it?

    • @wdlfbio
      @wdlfbio  Рік тому +1

      I had a SS175M thruhull on this build and the current build has a SS175M and a SS175HW. These are just aft of the fish boxes. Bronze and aluminum don’t mix well, so you’d want to go with a RV300 or 400 (stainless steel) instead of the 200. I’d tuck it towards the inside of either sponson, at least 6’ forward of the transom so it doesn’t get blown out when reversing into the current. There’s plenty of room where it wouldn’t be near the bunk when on the trailer.

    any plans of incorporating hydro foil assist.?? all aluminum cats should have them for less hull in water, and needing less power and fuel burn.

    • @wdlfbio
      @wdlfbio  Місяць тому

      I considered it, but there are too many unknowns regarding smaller cats. I don’t care to finance the R&D, only to find out they have a negative effect in following 5-8’ seas or that they impart quirks when running 23-25 knots in 4-5’ at 8 seconds, which are pretty common situations for us.

    I've been welding for well over 30 years, aluminum predominantly for about 25. I look at the welds on the anodized on this boat and think to myself, 'They must have hired a new welder that laid a good bead on his/her test but had zero experience with anodized in the shop.' The welds look sub standard at best, unsafe at worst, imho. No way could I ever allow that kind of work to pass QC. This is the exact reason I'm building my boat. Hard to find people that know what they're doing, I get it but to charge the kind of money they charge? It's a ripoff.

    • @wdlfbio
      @wdlfbio  Рік тому +2

      Testing of weld quality occurs in person, not by looking at a video. Even a beautiful stack of dimes could be a crappy weld underneath. You’ve never been on this boat, nor is it anodized, as you claimed. I’ll take your opinion with a very large grain of salt. We have about 1.5 years and 200 hours of running off the Pacific NW coast under her so far and not a hint of any structural issues.
      Best of luck with your build. I certainly don’t have anywhere near the skills or time to accomplish such a task.

    • @JustMike2791
      @JustMike2791 Рік тому +1

      @@wdlfbio I disagree, the dive ladder is anodized. I can tell from a video that the welds look inferior, I may be incorrect as to the strength but I wouldn't bet against me. I know that when I TIG weld aluminum, any aluminum alloy for that matter, my welds look so much better and I am by far not the best TIG welder out there. It looks like bubble gum was laid instead of a weld bead. It's not your fault my friend. Glad she's kicking butt for ya, stay safe out there and have fun!

    • @BlakeMcBain
      @BlakeMcBain Рік тому

      @@JustMike2791 Agreed that the ladder is anodized, also very little tig on mounts and spots where it would benefit, another boat builder putting profit before quality. No fault to the boat owner though, mig welds are more often stronger than TIG welds due to the heat effected zone on tig weakening the weld, but strength isn't everything, looks matter. We build custom cats, 38' X 15' just launched, For the same price as this with twin 300's, 17 X 8 cabin, 2 X 200 gallon fuel tanks 2 x 100 gallon fish holds, 7'x 5' rear fishing platform, four 3" davit mounts so you can pick pots from any corner of the boat. Also a 6' dual action front gate. Run with 2 separate winch's and built to be hammered by side by sides, ATV's, and hauling lumber all while looking good. Ill post some videos on my channel so you can see the gate in action and the launch. With 17 pitch props we were able to get 40mph top speed, and at 26mph we achieved a fuel efficiency of 1.1 mpg, take it down to 22mph and you can get 1.5 mpg in a 38' boat, not bad in this economy.

    • @pho-kingsoup8126
      @pho-kingsoup8126 Рік тому +3

      I disagree. I've been a welding inspector for over 20 years and while I would agree with the welds in the sink which wouldn't have any effect on safety, the rest looked fine given the limitations of watching a video. I'd have to see drawings but the welds appear to be proper size, uniform and judging by start/stops, heat inputs were regulated using a proper welding procedure. It's hard to tell but there were no visible defects in any of the footage.
