The first time I watched this, it was because I was genuinely interested in learning the timeline. I always come back to it because of its beautiful visuals and epic music. This is truly wonderful AND informative.
This video brought me chills! Love the minds behind these videos, ya gotta check out Easy Allies on UA-cam, it's the gametrailers crew doing their thing on Patreon!
This is why I believe that The Legend of Zelda is the best video game franchise ever made. Loads of different stories, theories, and timelines. Along with beautiful music, unforgettable characters and storylines. Plus, each game has so many side-quests, and even more characters that you can come to know and love.
+awsomechumpinglegomaster true kingdom hearts is a cool game the actions are confortable i have it on my 3ds but legendo of zelda is kinda better in my oppinion
Chineye Aworh Kingdom Hearts is kind of more tactical (learn abilities and different attacks, combining things to get better, aleays sidequesr rhat give you thing to improve your arsenal) in Tloz you aleqys get all your tools, sidequests are more like obligatory if you want to pass the game, same battle mechanic always and not many tactics (jsut shield and jump) dont get me erong i like zelda too
This is why I adore Zelda. So many timelines, so many theories etc etc and they mostly all come down to Link, Zelda and Ganondorf. I'd like a modern time Zelda someday. I know it would be a stretch, bit if they could keep the Zelda formula, I'd love it.
i cried throughout this video. the legend of zelda games are my absolute favorite games it brings me back to when i was a kid im so absorbed. great video. die hard zelda fans like me can and will truly appreciate it
I keep trying to watch this but tears keep welling up in my eyes and I can't hear the narrator over the symptoms of Stendhal syndrome racking my brain back and forth. What a wonderful production you've created here
I’ve come back 5 years later, to rewatch this masterpiece. Even though gametrailers isn’t what it used to be, I want to thank you guys for this video series. It’s what initially got me into the legend of Zelda all the way back, and till this day, it remains my favourite video game franchise, followed by Fallout.
I know why there's a 'link is defeated' timeline. it's because you can't save after beating Ganon in OOT. that's annoying!! so this is what happens when link doesn't even show up at the tower and instead devotes himself to collecting all the skulltulas and heart pieces D:
love your animation and placement of music, and honestly the entire layout/setup you have, as well as it being about such an amazing thing as zelda, have to say defo one of the better videos out there, great job dude
To be perfectly honest, Hyrule Historia or not, I still don't really worry about which games are related to which, nor what order they were supposed to have occurred in and I never have understood people's obsession with placing a firm time line into a series that was clearly never meant for one. I always found there to be a huge amount of fun in the mystery about how games were connected to each other. The similar, but clearly different places and worlds, the references that certain games threw in to suggest a link with certain previous games (like the stain glass windows in wind wakers chamber of the master sword), and even the fact that some of them made no attempt to link into any of the others full stop and could easily just have been separate worlds all to themselves. With that in mind I never have understood why people wanted a firm timeline so badly.
mrgeetah you see that's the thing, I think people have been trying to put together a puzzle where there is none, so a lot of the pieces don't just don't fit and have to be forced together. The lord of rings universe was written to be taken as a whole, the Zelda universe wasn't. Also as I alluded to in my original comment, there is fun in things remaining a mystery.
God. I can't get over how epic this is. The music is heart-wrenching, the animation is streamlined and beautiful, and the narration is awesome. Keep it going, guys.
My brother refuses to accept the Zelda story line because it doesn't match his head canon. I'm still trying to convince him that canon over rules personal taste.
I believe that each "Link" "Zelda" and "Ganon" have there own reincarnations throughout the series. The time line has always been so confusing for me, but I wont lie Ocarina of time was the first Zelda game I played, then i played the squeal to it Majora's Mask, and it wasn't till later till i played some of the older games. Gaming Goddess
Hm, well Tingle I only remember him being in Majora's Mask and him being a plush in skyward sword in Zelda's Room. But my theory on him is that maybe he is trapped. As for the Toilet hand I got nothing. Unexplained mystery. Gaming Goddess
Gaming Goddess Wasnt tingle in windwaker too? and im pretty sure i saw him in a picture in Phantom hourglass once but im not sure about that :o Haha but the toilet hand will always be a mystery XD
I am not sure myself but he can either time travel or he is trapped in Hyrule. Because he know's quite a bit of information from what I do remember. Gaming Goddess
Gaming Goddess True :) He even sells maps of hyrule....that requires some knowledge i guess ! Btw hes not the only one who reappears in a lot of the games, same goes for the mask sales man and soooo many side characters :3
you can tell a LOT of effort went info making this. from the information they had to research, to the amazing music, to the breathtaking animation. game trailers did an awesome job with this.
@ kaxakaDrktree zeldawiki.org/Zelda_Timeline#History_of_the_Zelda_Timeline read this it shows where all the games take place and how many timelines it separates into.
i don't think its a coincidence that majoras mask was released in 2000 lemme explain moon is falling end of world same year everybody speculated Y2K the end of the world
So in real life, I could create a multi-timeline; I die in like 2070 and I reincarnate back into 1988 as a boy again creating timeline B and in the other timeline, which was timeline A, I reincarnate into like 2105 as a girl. Timeline B would be almost the same as Timeline A except I have a slightly different life and decide to prevent the mistakes made in Timeline A like having Autism. So Timeline B changes the events that would normally lead to Timeline A just like in OoT, the Child Link timeline changes the events that unfold in the Adult Link timeline. BTW, I believe in reincarnation and right now I'm unsure if I want to reincarnate into the past or the future, I'm pretty much worried about the latter. I really want to come back as a girl regardless of the time period I reincarnate into; past, present, or future.
Lloydus J It's kinda like in Zelda, how three different Hyrules exist across 3 timelines; one of which is buried underwater and forgotten and the other two being basically the same as the one in the unified timeline prior to OoT.
Does reincarnation involve coming back in the past or future? If you die in 2070 your saying you reincarnate twice from the same time...2070. Once to a boy in 88 and once to a girl in 2105... It doesn't make sense to me... Can you elaborate?
There would be two different timelines just like WW and TP occur in two different realities. My life as a boy again would be like TP and my life as a girl would be like WW.
The many worlds theory in science postulate that there are infinite timelines with new ones being created and branching out all of the time, so The LoZ series having multiple timelines makes perfect sense and allows future developers endless storytelling possibilities.
TheSilverazo in fairness, in each game, the character imploring links help have been essentially telling link he is the reincarnation of the hero of time that had saved hyrule oh so many years ago. So each game is operating under the assumption it came after the time period of legend of Zelda and ocarina of time, which seem to be considered the original time periods. So in a way, there is a timeline, there's just not a distinction in the games which ones come in order after the original time link supposedly saved hyrule.
There are two song samples used at the beginning. From 0:03 to 0:47 it's of the "Overture" from Twilight Princess Symphony Soundtrack by ZREO music. Once it hits 0:48 it shifts to the "Main Theme Medley", from the 25th Anniversary Symphony, up until 1:49.
Jason Sewell lol@ your comment, marvel comics annoyed the crap out of me as a child-- was reading an action packed X men story focused with my favorite characters only to come to a end with a (read issue 343#). Waste of time
I had to stop the video for a while because it kept giving me goosebumps on how amazing everything is, holy hell dudes, i think i found my new favorite thing to watch
No need in defending what is already powerful enough to make people rage, cry, contemplate, reminisce, collaborate, argue about, and many other things. Zelda is a milestone in video gaming history, and I for one, will never forget it.
It would be cool if they made a game like this for the newer consoles that has all the Zelda games and you can just select the one you want to play. Like an anniversary edition or something. Would be bomb.

I'm really glad this video explains the older games and I can't wait to watch the next episode to see how the others game about also, hopefully GameTrailers did a Super Mario Timeline.
If anyone was wondering, the Hylian text at 2:35 reads "One day, a strange mark, exactly the crest of the kingdom, appeared on the back of Links hand as he approached his sixteenth birthday. The worried Link went to Impa, princess Zelda's nursemaid who..." and it cuts off there
Please please please make update videos for new games when they come out, these Zelda Timeline videos are so fantastic! I wanna see how Link Between Worlds and Zelda Wii U fit into the timeline! I could look it up but these videos are so much more enjoyable haha
God this video series is so cool and legit; you guys should continue it! I think some good choices would be final fantasy, chrono trigger/cross, fire emblem, persona, or suikoden. :D
zelda us just so special and important to gaming that it's impossible to imagine the industry being the same without it. OoT, MM and WW were my childhood

I used to play LoZ with my aunt and her last words to me before she died was "how's zelda doing?" This game has been a huge part of my life.
I'm sorry for your loss :(
But I too can relate, and ever since that moment I don't think I'll ever forget about this series
HAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHA Yeah Bla bla bla
Jack Pilkey bull shit

Definitely one of your finest videos, GameTrailers. Thank you guys for the hard work you put into your videos.
Easy Allies beckons you, Zelda Universe. They are still making videos :D

MARIOSUPER64
This is still one of the best pieces of entertainment ever put together. Thank you and R.I.P. GameTrailers! So many good memories with y'all!
It’s been said but I’ll say it again, even seven years later this is one of the most well produced UA-cam videos I have ever seen
This may be the single greatest piece of content you guys ever produced.
Goodbye Game Trailers. We'll miss you.
Y arnt they uploading
SuperLuigiSixty4 This and Kingdom Hearts timeline. Also loved the retrospectives
(5:44) Oh god, the music when the Ocarina of time explanation starts *-*
chills

According to Zeldawiki.com Majora's Mask is the closest game we got to a modern day Zelda game. Take a look.
***** lol u got a point
*****
That. Would. Be. AWESOME.
Hyrule should looks like Republic City and Earth Kingdom from Avatar
***** Link, the hero of trains!
The way Brandon Jones just straight up talks about video games just makes me so happy. So happy that in the year 2020 this masterpiece is still here
i cried throughout this video. the legend of zelda games are my absolute favorite games it brings me back to when i was a kid im so absorbed. great video. die hard zelda fans like me can and will truly appreciate it
I keep trying to watch this but tears keep welling up in my eyes and I can't hear the narrator over the symptoms of Stendhal syndrome racking my brain back and forth. What a wonderful production you've created here
God, all of this music is giving me goosebumps.

8 years and this masterpiece still holds up SO good
The Legend of Zelda franchise has the best game music ever made.
Amen
I think skyrims music is the best for any game of all time, but franchise, Zelda takes it
Zelda has the best: Gameplay, Graphic Styles, Music, Storys, Charakters, etc
Undertale
Mikael Murstam, and Guile's theme goes with everything.
Am I the only one who gets goosbumps on barely every single soundtrack of this game ?
Naaaah, I only get them from the dungeon theme in the first
This is basically what will flash before my eyes right before I die.
The team behind this timeline explanation is super talented, and no other timeline explanation can touch this, even to this day.
What a great concept, documenting the timeline of a long game series. Very interesting!!!
this is a really high quality series. i feel like it's fit for television
Awesome job, GameTrailers

what!!
+Tawasiel 2008 I don't want to talk about it.
+Tawasiel 2008 they're "back" www.patreon.com/EasyAllies?ty=h
Something epic like this needs to be done about Pokemon and Mario too

This whole video Gametrailers made just kept me smiling throughout. Long live the greatest video game franchise ever!
Cool, now I can play a link between two worlds without any confusion.
*between worlds
That music is so freaking awesome!!! :O
Kind of confusing, the timeline would be more apparent if you hadn't ordered the games based on release ._.
To whoever created the visuals for this video: Simply. Amazing. This is by far the best Timeline video for LoZ I have ever seen.
I loved this! It was amazingly laid out, the graphics and presentation was unbelievable as well as the music!!!!!! Great job!!!!!!!
My brother refuses to accept the Zelda story line because it doesn't match his head canon. I'm still trying to convince him that canon over rules personal taste.
Lmao, gl with that!
Can't blame him especially how a link between world ducks up the time line and plots holes starts to pop up
No he just denies that there is a time split in Ocarina of Time.
We Korrasami shippers know this struggle well
Where can I find 8:11 - 8:30 ?
I believe that each "Link" "Zelda" and "Ganon" have there own reincarnations throughout the series.

This is absolutely breathtaking. You should do one explaining the official timeline and how the legends fit in with each other.
I don't normally watch GT videos, but this is an absolutely spectacularly put-together series, props.
Where do the CDI games belong on the timeline?
What CDI games?
You know which ones.
_"Great I'll grab my stuff"_
_"I'm so hungry I could eat an Octorock!"_
Helvetica Neue Those don't exist, and if they did, they wouldn't be on the timeline.
tmanthe2nd
But here's the thing. They still exist, I can point you towards gameplay footage of it.
In tingles twisted imagination thats where!
Your not alone.
---------}=======>
Take this.
If you cannot adore the music at 8:08, then you are obviously deaf, high, or tasteless.
you can tell a LOT of effort went info making this. from the information they had to research, to the amazing music, to the breathtaking animation. game trailers did an awesome job with this.
5:31 GAVE ME THE BIGGEST GOOSEBUMPS OF MY LIFE.
Where is The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, the best Zelda game of all time?!
Hey uh why don't you watch part 2?
I did. He only briefly mentioned it in part 3. Part 3!
The best Legend of Zelda game... and he only briefly mentioned it!!!
KaxakaDarktree
Wind waker is the best in my opinion.
That's a toon!!! It's a perversification of all things Link!
@ kaxakaDrktree zeldawiki.org/Zelda_Timeline#History_of_the_Zelda_Timeline read this it shows where all the games take place and how many timelines it separates into.

Feces.
But hey that's just a theory. A GAME THEORY!

the cg graphics are beautiful gosh. The scene that shows the whole hall was just utter beauty
This is presented in a way that is both beautiful, and evokes happiness. This is a must see for any fan of the Zelda franchise.
Zelda doesn't have a timeline that's the end of it
TheSilverazo belive it or not yes it does
Simon Matos not really is just something they made up, it was not originally intended
yeah who knows
Alex Wright still it doesn't really have one
TheSilverazo in fairness, in each game, the character imploring links help have been essentially telling link he is the reincarnation of the hero of time that had saved hyrule oh so many years ago. EASY ALLIES!
Who else came saw this in the recommend section on The legend of zelda breath of the wild.
Fuck yeah
Had to they kept referencing the shit out it
The intro of this video is so epic and memorable that I still remember it after 4 years of being released.
This is so dumb and confusing. Its as confusing as trying to read marvel comics.
Jason Sewell It's only confusing if you're dumb.
Ultimaniac ok
Jason Sewell lol@ your comment, marvel comics annoyed the crap out of me as a child-- was reading an action packed X men story focused with my favorite characters only to come to a end with a (read issue 343#). Waste of time
I had to stop the video for a while because it kept giving me goosebumps on how amazing everything is, holy hell dudes, i think i found my new favorite thing to watch
Excellent use of the 25th Anniversary Orchestral pieces throughout these videos.
I have probably watched this trilogy 8-9 times now. Thanks dude this is awesome.
5:35 . This game defined my life as a gamer. God damn that music. Thank you GT. Please don't let this disappear.
No need in defending what is already powerful enough to make people rage, cry, contemplate, reminisce, collaborate, argue about, and many other things. Zelda is a milestone in video gaming history, and I for one, will never forget it.
This is stunning... The visuals are better than most of the video games and movies I've seen! And this is a UA-cam video!
This is probably the best video GT ever produced.
It would be cool if they made a game like this for the newer consoles that has all the Zelda games and you can just select the one you want to play. Like an anniversary edition or something. Would be bomb.
Lol Zelda next gen
These 3 videos are beautifully made and oh so informative! I absolutely adored them! If these are ever released on DVD I will SOOOO buy them! amazing job!
Oh god the orchestral versions of music from the Zelda series are extraordinary breathtaking. My soul is screaming with joy right now!!!😏😆🎵🎶🎶🎶🎵
I'm really glad this video explains the older games and I can't wait to watch the next episode to see how the others game about also, hopefully GameTrailers did a Super Mario Timeline.
This series guide is so well constructed. Thank you for putting these together guys!
If anyone was wondering, the Hylian text at 2:35 reads "One day, a strange mark, exactly the crest of the kingdom, appeared on the back of Links hand as he approached his sixteenth birthday. The worried Link went to Impa, princess Zelda's nursemaid who..." and it cuts off there
Let's applaud Gametrailers for this amazing video!
IGN and Gamespot should learn and make content of this HIGH QUALITY. Thanks GameTrailers!
I still come back here for the epicness
When the OoT theme starts playing about 10 secs before talking about it gives me the chills. :)
This narator, I don't know who he is, but he makes everything he's in amazing.
These videos were so well made I'm watching them all for a third time.
Please please please make update videos for new games when they come out, these Zelda Timeline videos are so fantastic! I wanna see how Link Between Worlds and Zelda Wii U fit into the timeline! I could look it up but these videos are so much more enjoyable haha

I just started the video but I gotta say, DAMN THAT INTRO WAS DOPE
you are so amazing for making this video, i never did understand the zelda timeline, i tryed to figure it out once, and i got so lost
That rendition of clock town is so beautiful. I really want to find a full version of it
00:48 for some reason gave me chills...
God I love this game...
zelda us just so special and important to gaming that it's impossible to imagine the industry being the same without it. OoT, MM and WW were my childhood

Zelda games don't have the traditional:
beginning
middle
end
They have:
the moment you get your green tunic
the moment the plot takes an unexpected turn
the moment you seal the evil one away (supposedly) forever
I love this series!
***** Sorry but was the timeline too hard for you to understand?
Why no more Timeline entries!?!? This is a GREAT show!! I loved the Zelda & Kingdom Hearts uploads!!
I always come back every Zelda Month!
these videos are beautiful. Just BEAUTIFUL.
I really like the castle chamber feels like your actually there making your way thru the hall to the throne chair
dude i love your timeline for the legend of Zelda its sooooooo cool!
Original N64, had a NGC port, and a remake on 3DS. The footage used on the video is from the 3DS version.
Amazing quality! Very impressive narrative!
