Can you check out Sugarfoot on threatened pretty please! New fan here!
It's Michael Jackson's drummer, no one should expect anything less than absolutely amazing.
Yup. And this is how much of an alien you need to be in order to play for the biggest act in the world
The only thing that can compare with Sugarfoot's professionalism and brilliance on the drums is Andrew's strong meme game 😂
HAHA
@@AndrewRooneyDrums that Bernie meme got me. Gold.
@@pointlesswasteoftime ditto! Everyone outside America loves Bernie!
@@richardharrold9736 No, outside America we don't like senile politicians in charge of anything.
@@Compendyum Bernie is far from senile. He may be old but he's still as sharp and incisive as a razor. I'm fifty years his junior and I'd have voted for him in a heartbeat if I was a Yank. Biden and Trump, on the other hand... both degenerating, decerebrating, superannuated sex pests elevated far above any competence to which they could lay claim by their Wall Street overlords in cahoots with the DNC and RNC respectively. Ultimately, Biden is the lesser evil, but he's far from good.
As well as being a “boss” jonathan moffett is also very kind and friendly with Michaels fans who can be intense at times. Great all round guy
As I said before one of my favorite drummers....He's a machine with soul.
YES!
To put things in perspective, one of Jackson's many tours, the HiStory Tour ran from Sept '96 to Oct '97, 83 concerts (often one every other day in a different city and venue), and each had to be exactly the same. So, Moffett had to put the same intensity into each performance with absolutely perfect timing, showmanship, and precision. And as a drummer, he was active for each and every piece, night in and night out. 25 years later he's performing with the same precision and emotion and timing. This is something you can't teach. This is innate talent. At the highest level. The fact that he was the drummer for the last series of concerts Jackson was planning to perform is testimony to his credibility.
You nailed it Paul.
One of THE ultimate pros in the scene without a doubt.
i agree, but 83 shows in 13 months is not remotely close to every other day
On his UA-cam channel Sugarfoot did upload some rare live cam recordings of History Tour, quality not too good but worth to watch :)
He started with The Jackson 5 years back. Also played for Madonna and Elton John. The man is he’s own genre of drummer. The human metronome.
GOAT levels
He’s been MJ’s drummer for decades. All muscle memory by now. So awesome to watch.
Michael Jackson, Madonna, and Cameo.
Moffett is a beast. Machine-like precision, yet human-like groove. Very, very rare.
His inner metronome is perfect
Pretty much
He doesn’t just play the songs….He owns them! It’s his creation and no one, no matter how good can replace him.
Well said. It's the definitive version
This guy is the kung fu master of drums 😂😂😂...He plays like a programmed machine
What a drummer, what a performer, this man is on a next level, God bless you sugar foot🙏
We are watching a legend play the instrument he was born to play.
Take notice and appreciate that.
How ridiculously talented he is with timing and sick pocket! He’s next level all day long🔥🔥
Johnathan Moffet the human metronome with funky groove and vibrations that make you wanna dance 👍
Yes Aaron!
You can afford the best drummer, but you want more.
You essentially want a drum machine that's able to play live.
It's why he was Michael Jackson's drummer.
Best of the best.
So much discipline and intention. This type of drummers are just always in demand for studio work. Tight pocket and killer groove.
💯👌
There's almost no words for serving a song so well, and making it look so easy.
I so wish I could do it a 10th this well. I mean, you've seen the whole lesson? He plays one, can't remember which song it is, but dude goes for a solid 5 or 6 minutes, 1 and 3 on the kick, with a splash or hat accent here and there, and cuts loose with a cymbal swell every couple dozen bars or so, until the beat, and then, his most technical fill is a 2 bar 16 single stroke roll, but good luck playing the pattern with 1 foot lol. But point is, 5 or 6 minutes of 1/4s on the hats, and 1/2s on the kick, and not only does he never look bored, he manages to not make me bored watching him. I'd have went all Mike Portnoy ages ago for a minute lol. Sefl control, discipline, musicianship, experience, PAID
@@publicprofilename4273... And practice practice practice 😅
Everything is charming about this guy Sugarfoot. Not just jaw drooping playing, but whole package. He is so cool in his mimics, look, non prideful atmosphere he is creating, such groove, clothing, age, absolutely everything. He is so calm and volcano at the same time. Absolutely magnificent person. MJ had taste for sure. I think Prince was tasteful for band crew musicians too.
This man came pre assembled with a metronome sugarfoot is just perfect and was the only man for the job for mike
I get goosebumps everytime I hear this guy!
YUP!
Another drummer you should listen to is the drummer from the band tool Danny Carey his drum kit cam. The dude is a machine 😳
The song is called pneuma!
And this dude is ice cold chill, just amazing mate.
Absolute zen master
Those chokes were sick!!! LOL.. Loved it..
Sugarfoot is the best groove drummer on the planet! Period! Killer bass drum foot and slick fills and super tight groove!
Don't get any tighter Tim!
Those who said Jeff Porcaro is the best groove drummer on earth doesn't know who is Jonathan "sugarfoot" Moffet the human metronome.
That whole interlude drum solo is crazy. That's some live version that would have some dance number going on during that.
Yes there is. Syncs up great
I saw an interview where Sugarfoot said he still missed his dance buddy and I 😭😭😭
insane😮❤
I hadn't appreciated that Jonathan Moffet also played drums on many Madonna tracks, I am not a musician but his technique is just so crisp I had convinced myself it was electronic or even completly synthetic, he is an abosolute master of his art, bravo!
Incredible drummer. I don't think I have ever seen anything like this before in my life. Wonderful!
This has to be the funniest one yet.. Unreal drumming of course..memes are killing it.. Bruce Lee, Warriors.. You should do a movie reaction channel. You got taste.
Thanks yo!
GRANDE MOFFET, TOCA PACA. TÉCNICO, PRECISO E SEM FIRULA. DÁ O RECADO NA HORA CERTA E SEM SUAR. O PERFEITO PRAS HORAS PERFEITAS E COM ESTILO PRÓPRIO. NÃO O CONHECIA ATÉ UM DIA ASSISTIR E DESCOBRIR QUE ELE TOCAVA COM O MICHAEL QUE EU NUNCA OLHAVA AS MÚSICAS DELE COM OLHAR CRÍTICO INSTRUMENTAL ATÉ VER ESSE CARA NA BATERA.
Like a robot but with feilings. Amazing!
AMAZING!
He is an awesome steady drummer, the kind of drummer most musicians I've known want. He is not playing off the hinge, so to speak or write, like some of the Jazz or Metal drummers. His cymbal and kick work is his signature.
Super clean,super tight almost understated
Glad you like it Craig!
Beyond tight!
3:30 Bernie stink face healthcare meme killed me hahaha
Mike switched most members of his band some background singers and dancers for his last upcoming this is it tour. But he knew why he kept Jonathan from the late 70's all the way to 2009!!!!! He’s a keeper! The little breakdown was when michael had his little dance break on stage!
Yes I watched some live footage right after this!
@@AndrewRooneyDrums gotta watch this song as the opener for the 1992 Bucharest show. Mind melting...
And idk if you can tell, but the beats and such go with all the dance moves that they do on stage for the performances. i can almost do t his perfomances from memory watching the live in bucharest, where "jam" was the opening performance. the drums absolutely go with the choreography and the pryo and other stage pyrotechnics on point. it is phenomenal to watch.
he can fit his iPhone in his change pocket....theres no pocket small enough for this man,
MONSTER POCKET
Drumming notwithstanding, I love the Swayze "Point Break" quote here. Johnathan Moffat is the man; the late Ricky Lawson was a groove king too, and had played drums with Jackson, as well as Eric Clapton, Whitney Houston and Phil Collins, among others.
Incredible muscle memory
Next level doesn't even begin to cover this!
There IS NO level to describe this! 😵💫
Much more than bombastic protometal drumming (which I love), this shows what a drummer adds to the notes on the sheet music. You’d look at the transcription and think “what’s the big deal?”, but this is really amazing.
Exactly. It's far beyond notes on a page
I am so grateful to you and your channel for introducing me to this guy. I knew Michael Jackson, but I didn't know this guy. Your commentary takes it to another level for me, putting everything in perspective from an expert point of view.
Thanks for watching Craig! And the kind comments
Micheal was a perfection. The drummer had to be amazing!😍
MJ definitely had the same band/dancers/badckup singers from what I have seen from his live stuff.
I grew up with his Live in Bucharest recorded on a VHS tape, and then owned at least 2 of the dvd's and watch it on youtube as much as I can. He was very serious about his live performances, and it shows. they were flawless.
Total perfectionist 💯👌
❤❤best drummer
Performances like this make me ecstatic to be a human, and perhaps one day I could be so great at something.
Sugarfoot is a Drumming Ninja. End of.
Yes Mandy!
When i was first learning drums i knew a professional drum teacher who taught me a few key points on technique. But one of the big lesson he taught is, the main difference between a beginner and professional is quality time behind the kit.
This is great! I am not a drummer at all but through watching your videos and listening to your commentary, I find myself now watching their movements and how each drummer you review holds their sticks and posture etc... :D
That is awesome!
Hopefully you're enjoying drumming even more
You came to the right place. ( thats what she said)
THIS IS THE CRAZIEST THING I’VE EVER SEEN IN MY WHOLE LIFE!!!
Yup! Expert level drumming
@@AndrewRooneyDrums I’m buying a drum set after this!
One could only hope to have the tight metronomic timing of Sugarfoot. His visual style is as intense as his perfect sense of dynamics.
Total package! PRO!
Jonathan Moffet is Michael Jacksons songs. He is a drummer who can go from playing for 100,000 to the studio and that is what makes him crazy good. Not all drummer can be studio drummer for the recording.
Me and my clock watched this together...my clock just said to me " oh, so that's timing...i get it now" nice one Andrew :)
Yes Ken!
I will take this kind of groove and showmanship over super technical drumming anyday.
GROOVE!
ya see, this IS super technical drumming. Seriously.
@@publicprofilename4273 Absolutely. Keeping that kind of groove and syncopation in the beats with the hands while sticking to the bass parts like glue with his feet is NOT easy!
@@BBEDrummerAK Us folks who've been at this a while know just how opposite most people's perceptions are. The flashy guy, is the guy who uses the fills and all the fluff to keep him/her in time. The master doesn't need those tricks. I'm in the former catagory, not the latter lol. And of course, that's not indicative of every flashy drummer. Neil Peart, Danny Carey, are a couple that definately don't use flash as a timing tool. I'm one that does lol. The Phil Rudd's of the world are the one's I look up to the most, even if I play more like the guys I mentioned. No one knows without being a player, just how epic it is that Back In Black was recorded without being on a click. To hold a 4/4 for 4 minutes, never deviating, never rushing or slipping, is extraordinary! I can't do it, after 30 some odd years, not many can. Ole buddy here, is next level badass for what he DOESN'T play, not so much what he does, although what he plays is masterclass level.
In drumming there is speed (as in being able to pump out 360 bpm single stroke 16th note rolls) and there is what I personally call "quickness", which is the ability to change from one playing surface to another that might be far away (in Sugarfoot's case, even behind him) without messing up timing, dynamics or anything. I'm not saying one is better than the other or that there aren't drummers who excel in both, I just want to point out that I look at both separately and find them equally impressive.
He's the master of that!
ANYONE who claims to be a professtonal drummer, experienced drummer, good drummer even, that watches this, and doesn't come away saying "Damn, I've got a lot to learn" is not any of the things I listed. Just AMAZING! Danny Carey is my favorite drummer, and my favorite music to play is prog. I'm absolutely blown away every single time I get to hear Sugarfoot. The absolute total control this man has over his instrument, and his total unending bass patterns, plus his almost religious service to the good of the song, being able to never deviate from a pattern for infinate bars, and make it interesting in other ways. His use of spacing, and dinamics are god tier. I could only hope to be this good. I do get to say that he and I have a good foot in common. then he woke up, got outta bed and sat down behind the kit, then we had nothing in common anymore. As long as he's asleep, and I'm playing my very best day ever, I can safely say that we both have a good foot in common. Only then lmao. Mine is pretty fast though, and I do play with that same sort of upper body drives the beat, but the legs lead the beat, and dance around the 1 with the kick. No, not out of time, just making it groove. Didn't pick that technique up from hearing him, but picked it up none the less, and it has served me well for 40 years now.
The best
Love your reactions/breakdowns. a true music lover
Walking metronome :) brilliant
🙌
The best of the best. Real GOAT 🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐
And love how relaxed he always looks 🙏🏼
Crazy stuff James. Love it
Johnathan waterfoot be like water
BOSS LEVEL
The final boss
you need to react to lord marco. he's a criminally underrated metal drummer that's played as a session and tour drummer for countless bands. his speed, creativity, and accuracy are un-paralleled, he makes incredible drummers like spencer prewitt look like amateurs.
Shame he's also a conspiracy theory promoting antivaxxer
Absolute beast !!
🙌
The one thing that always stuck out to me about MJ songs was how massive the kick drum sounded.
Yup Danny. Laser precision
Awesome.
MICHAEL wanted the best he got the best no need to say anymore
Nailed it Andy.
Sportin’ leather chaps with that vest? He is a legend... something about those 70’s and 80’s drummers...
Old school class and professionalism Ken
Can you do "Wanna be startin somethin" next.
It's also on Dromeo from Sugar Foot.
And he has a little drum solo at the end.
I love that one the most, possibly evan better the "Smooth Criminal".
Yup I will Dan!
Sugar foot is the best I’ve heard
Unbeatable
Metronomes are calibrated to him
Yes Patrick
He's just showing off now
Incridible
Loving the ninja showmanship, lol...he is so entertaining to watch, as well as to listen to. I'm getting a sense that everything he does is deliberate and turns out exactly as he intended...extremely crisp and precise...? (Could easily be mistaken as I am not a musician!).
Would love to see Yoyoka covering him on this...it would be fascinating to see how she would tackle it..
This guy is insane how he plays totally awesome 👌 👏 👍
Again I saw this guy live in show and in rehearsal and he is a monster!!! Absolutely one of the greats.
I don’t know if you know the story John Henry but Sugarfoot just asked me to hold his beer so he could fight a steam drill
Monster Darryl!
Best ever.
When you make people forget Ricky Lawson was MJ's drummer before you stepped up, you've achieved something quite remarkable.
Sugarfoot started with The Jackson's back in 79. He was choking those cymbals on their 84 Victory tour..
In fact Ricky jumped in instead of Sugerfoot on the Bad tour becauae Madonna booked Sugarfoot before MJ. And MJ habit was working with different musicians on bis album than on his tours (except for the misical director). On his albums it was mostly John JR Robinson.
You have to watch him play Wanna be Startin something.
If muscle memory was a person.
LOL
Jonathan has the greatest snare sound in the business
you should check out some Ralph Peterson Jr. video, a great jazz drummer who passed away last year. His videos with Meinl are well done and impressive.
First part was super w you spectating and reacting thanks
THANKS!
Dude is a metronome.
Chuck Norris’ heart beats at ‘Sugarfoot’ time.
It's Chuck's world. We just live in it
Imagine how someone like me with no musical talent at all reacts to his drumming, every time i watch his drumeo performances i am like you but you're a teacher. Cheers for replying the other day, finally found these others 👍
How does an artist like MJ ask this from his drummer? Does he go, "i have this in mind, do you magic on it." And so happens to have the best in the world....
Can you please make or link to a video where making a song is laid out? I have seen your larnell and carey videos, you touched on it a bit already.
As a drummer I want my pockets to be woven into Jonathan’s.
And the dude doesn’t even have a cymbal endorsement. Or cymbals endorse him. Who knows.
Its sick😂😂. Wow
Faz o que tem que ser feito, sem exagerar na execução e com uma precisão incrível!!
I think you check out Ali Richardson from Bleed From Within and Sylosis. He just posted a drum cam video of Bleed From Within’s set at Bloodstock 2021 on his UA-cam page. I play guitar (not very well if I might add) so I have a hard time remembering drummers names. He’s an exception.
Just too good
THE BEST!
You should do a reaction on Beat It. That was the first video I saw of him and I was blown away by it.
SUGARFOTT means : PERFECTION, MAGIC, GREAT, IRREMPLACABLE, RESPECT !!!!!!!!!!!
There is a video of Vulfpeck-Dean town where they play in a living room and you can see the percussions fighting the timing in his face lol please review
Wow
Holy Hell, that was unreal ! 8O
THE CYMBAL CHOKES. 😭🤤😭🤤
🙌
Love the shirt :) Metallioastes
5:20. 6:06. This is actually unique of doing this Kung Fu style on cymbal.
