It’s awesome how many projects are going at once-and you aren’t spending an immense amount of time trying to control the kids’ noise and make sure they’re being “good”! I love the atmosphere. And kitty condos are the best!
I love how these kids eat and like anything.
I love how Jude loves everything he eats. All the kids eat well. I am glad that y'all are using alternative ideas to feed your family and prepare for the unknown. Mike love the stewoup. I'm never sure if it's a soup or a stew.
Loved it when Megan is describing the thumb injury and Mike is grossing out and Asher is laughing... great family dynamics there. haha
It’s called a molcajete (mortar and pestle). Every time you use it it gets seasoned and helps flavor other dishes. We used to have one from my great great grandma. It gets better with age.
I have my mom's and my grandmother's. I also have my mom's well-seasoned cast iron comal. I feel it is an honor to use them.
As a vegetarian, I’ve never really understood why some people find eating rabbits sad, but they’d happily eat a chicken 🤷🏽♀️
Because rabbits are cute and chickens not so much. People have rabbits as indoor pets.
@@SkumarC I don’t care what they eat! She asked a question I gave an answer. People eat all types of things, not my business.
@@mindicardello3842 thanks for answering, Mindi! I don’t care what other people eat either, I was just curious as I didn’t expect to see so many people being upset about it in the comments
Some people aren’t very smart. 🤷🏻♂️
Many people tend to continue doing what they've done in the past. Switching to rabbit ia an example of that. Our eating habits are pretty well set -- only more adventurous (or disciplined people) have much change in their diets. I agree with the comment below, many people think of rabbits as pets. Also, there are several children stories about rabbits where one feels kindly toward the rabbit. In my childhood, the only chicken story I recall was the Little Red Hen.
Asher is definitely Megan's shadow lol we all have one kid that provides our shadow without the sun
I use to cook rabbit. I would salt and pepper it. Roll in flour and brown in skillet with a little oil. I would then put it in a casserole dish with a cup of orange juice in the bottom and slices of orange placed on the rabbit. I would cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes to one hour at 350 degrees.
Sounds good!
Did I misunderstood you how explained SPF? Mister Google Pants and my learning over years is that SPF that isn’t not how long but the percentage of UVB rays blocked.
I love Adam Driver too!
Oh you could puree the bell pepper and hot peppers w garlic and onion salt/pepper (herbs if you feel fancy) to make a paste. Then sautee for a smidge. You can add to pasta sauce and you could spread on ie the baguette as a sandwich spread or put on eggs. Use as a rub on a roast (beef or chicken)
Very cool recipe for the soup. Good for you guys doing the sustainable thing. Enjoying your videos, thanks!
Does Eve ever get frustrated at not being able to fully communicate what she means? From what I've seen y'all do a good job at understanding what she's saying but it seems like a lot of guesswork at times. ASL?
It's weird because when I first started watching I did not understand her. But after all this time I understand her so much more.
The soup looked / sounded yummy. Get well soon, bloody thumb of Megan!
I know this video is from months ago. I personally wouldn't ever eat a rabbit but I just wanted to say that during WW2 in England they had Victory gardens and kept rabbits to help feed their families...FF to 2020 and COVID and I understand why the practice has resurfaced.
Hassenfeffe! Keep posting! I am desperate to hear your adventures instead of the news these days.:) Bear hug!
Soup sounds great. I think the reason most people don’t want to eat rabbit is because they “see” that cute little bunny. I love rabbit.
Love all of this. People forget that pioneers in our country ate rabbit all the time
Rabbit is delicious, it taste a bit like chicken but it also has a bit of it’s own taste. It’s weird that there are people that don’t want to eat rabbit, while they eat pork and cow and horse. It’s a bit hypocrite but hey… your soups look amazingly scrumptious Megan!
Italians cook with rabbit…..braised rabbit is delicious and yes, similar taste to chicken. Enjoy!
That’s pretty awesome - way to go Daniel!
Just wanted to say I also love Adam Driver
Thanks for educating me on meat rabbits! We are often unsure of things we have never been exposed to, but that doesn’t mean we should make judgement before learning about it. I admire your drive to live sustainably.
Rabbit tastes like RABBIT. It's wonderful. My childhood returns. I love the flavour of rabbits. Well done Megan
Metal containers will rust 🥲 your soup looks amazing
When we clean out leftovers in the fridge, we throw everything in a bowl, add cheese and enchilada sauce and roll up in tortillas. In the oven for about 30 minutes. Presto!!! Enchiladas!!!!!!! YUM!!
When my Dad was in the Air Force we lived for a short time in Kansas. My father used to augment our foods with rabbit (love this), fish, squirrels, and venison. 💚
used to eat rabbit all the time when I was younger we couldn,t afford chicken to expensive yes it does taste like chicken when cooked megan and you can freeze them as well
So happy for Daniel!
Cats rub their face on items to put their scent on the item.
The kitties are trying to put their scent to claim it as their own. Miss family life in a large family we had 7 people in ours.
My husband rabbit hunts and Gives the meat to his friend. This has motivated me to try rabbit. I never thought of using the pressure cooker. Thanks for sharing! I’d love more rabbit recipes.
Tame rabbits and wild rabbits taste entirely different. Wild rabbit is more like dark meat and stronger taste imo. Tame rabbits very white meat and like chicken. We raised them years ago.
@@lelanoel3499 thanks for the info!
A lot of times it is preparation. My mom used to just season and cook the pheasant my dad hunted. It was just ok. When they gave me a pheasant I made fajitas and they were really good!
@@katstorm13 thanks, I’m up for trying it. We eat venison and that is the same. I’ve grown to prefer it.
Hi Ryan's mom Sam here... I love how Megan gets some good stuff from the second hand shops but I hate to burst her bubble by saying that most British home are quite modern 😯 she likes her home to be "British " thats great if you live in a big country house we most Brits don't 😬 my Grandmother had a plant stand like that though 👍
The rabbit stewp looked delicious. Megan great find at thrift store love that plant stand .
Love this family .
#blessed
Soup looks good to me and I’m also and Adam Driver fan! 🤍
I hate to be “loopless” so thanks for keeping me in the loop🤠❤️
When the cats rub against things they are scent marking.💚😻🐾
Might want to watch that tin. They rust easily with liquids in them.
I’m thankful you are teaching your kids about real things! Such an inspiration to teach where meat comes from, how to do it yourself in anything.
Montreal is beautiful and buzzing too, I lived there on and off for about 6 months. In winter they have a snow festival and they build these ice hotels you can visit at one of the parks. It's awesome!
I’m a vegetarian so this obviously makes me a little sad BUT I appreciate people who catch and kill their own food because it’s done in a more humane way, you have to prepare the meat so I feel like you have a better understanding and appreciation for what you’re doing and it’s obviously more sustainable
I’m a vegetarian too & I feel the exact same! 😊
I have vegan friends who feel the same for me getting hunted meat from my dad. Sure if everyone who wanted meat tried to hunt it wouldn't be as sustainable, but it's that much less meat to get from a factory farm or importing beef from overseas.
Mmm.
She’s so adorable!
Love your videos! Wish you did them more often, but that's life😉.Fried rabbit is good too.Hugs from Missouri 🤗.I'm ready for some fall weather too!
Thanks for the update on Daniel!❤️
I am outside of Montreal. Our China Town although small is still great. Welcome Daniel.
That rabbit soup looks yummy
Hunting rabbits was the only meat my dad had growing up
I hope people will stop criticizing your use of rabbit meat. It is your choice. It is boring to read all the negative comments. On another note: Being rather close to the ocean, relatively speaking, can you get fresh seafood? In the past, I lived in places where crab and octopus were available. Yummy!
Eve’s “mad scientist “ laugh is EPIC... And cue the “folx” who like to pretend they don’t know where meat comes from in 3...2....1.... 🐰🐰🐰
I didn’t realize Meghan had green eyes..they’re so pretty!!!
Looks and sounds wonderful.
Growing up we ate rabbits and it was very good. It does taste like chicken but has a bit of a tangy taste.
I was going to buy one the other day. It was in the Asian market but it was just under $30 for one rabbit.
Eeks! Once in a while, I will splurge on something that I've really been craving but I would have great difficulty at that price. That might be one splurge for two months. lol
@@debbieomi My dad hunts and I can get all kinds of healthy game for free. If I wanted to buy venison at the grocery store once he's gone I'm guessing it'll be a pretty penny.
I feel for you about the thumb issue - I do too except it’s not a knife cut but a hangnail that won’t go away. Everything I do with that hand feels like I’m pulling my thumbnail out. I’m using up bandaids by the dozen (each time I wash my hands the bandaid falls off). Argh. Here’s to healing!
Skipping over the cooked rabbit.
Your sun screen would probably work in a pump bottle. An old soap bottle??
Wonder about a foaming bottle. Foaming helps it go further as well.
Rabbit stewed with onion and bacon it wonderful. Try adding bacon as well
Hi guys.. Love from Trinidad and Tobago WI.. 🇹🇹
We 💕 soup in this house also. We are all about sustainability also.
Walmart has small squeeze lotion bottles in the travel size section in health and beauty..
Mike is so funny.😂
Your soup looks delicious.Have a nice day.
I had to skip the end, I can take bloody thumbs, but I like rabbits too much.
It blows me away. Your Costco cart has exactly what we buy for our blended family.
I still have my grandmothers recipes for fried rabbit and fried squirrel. We used to eat frog legs, roasted goat and a great aunt once tricked me into eating rattlesnake. As an adult I have not eaten any of those but if meat prices continue to rise I will be. 😉
Much better than store bought meat. Soup looks yummy.
I've eaten rabbit meat quite a few times my favorite was rabbit cooked with a sweet and sour sauce because the rabbit meat is so much more tender then the chicken. The soup looks really delicious!
I will definitely check out your recipe, Megan! I looked amazing, and I can't wait to give it a try!
lol love the good soup meme
Is it safe to use DIY sunscreen as it's not tested and you don't actually know how much SPF it has..
I make soup like that, with chicken, and for the green color, I add chopped cilantro, love it!!!
Reminds me of that sweet nephew of yours that cut his finger tip off.
Love the four seasons they have back here California has one and a half
Cats like to rub their scent on stuff. It's a thing cats do. Mine rub on boxes, corners of bed, me, couch etc.
My cousins raised rabbits and I tried it once at their house. It was a little more gamey than chicken, but very similar.
We've started serving dinner youngest to oldest and it has been a game changer. Dinners are a lot less chaotic.
Where will you keep the rabbits during the winter months? When it’s snowing and below 0?
The cats are rubbing their own scents onto the tower. They have glands near their whiskers that exude "MINE" smells.
If u get a chance try fried frog legs. It also taste like chicken
I'm native American and my father used to hunt rabbits..he'd bring home his kill fry it up... delicious
You need a buy little farm. It be epic to watch❤️
Ouch, your poor thumb! I did a similar thing this summer but it was my index finger. I cut into my nail and a chunk of flesh (🤢) while chopping vegetables (and not paying attention!). It was so painful I had to lie down on the floor for like 10 minutes. I used bandaids and these little (for lack of a better term) finger condoms to protect the wound, but I wish I had had one of those splints that you have because I was constantly whacking my finger on things (followed by colorful language) despite trying to be careful. I think it took about three weeks before it was fully healed, but to be honest I think I’m still healing from the nerve damage because it still hurts like there’s an open wound there when I hit it the wrong way. That is all to say, I literally feel your pain, Megan!
Oh, and I also used it as an excuse not to do my morning yoga for more days than it really warranted-which, like skipping your morning walk, really didn’t make anything better!
😂 there you go if Adam Driver likes it 😂
You reminded me of myself with the bandaid. Especially if it is a bigger one. By golly, I am going to make sure people know about it. Lol
Megan, would you share the supplier for the beeswax, please?
❤️❤️
Make a second batch with the regular coconut oil and then combine them for something just about right... try a pump bottle...
Our family raised 200 rabbits and we had them butchered! We were young and no way were we going to eat rabbit so my aunt made fried chicken 😂 it was soooo good. However after we were done dinner we found out it was rabbit! Those sneaky adults!
When you say rested for three days in the fridge. How did you store them while resting? In water? In ice? Just in a bag?
We had them in a brine that we refreshed each of the three days.
It's 108 degrees here today!
Another recipe idea for the rabbits. I do this with Squirrel is put your meat in a baking dish, make your own homemade white gravy with salt and pepper, cover with foil and bake on 350 for 2 hrs. It will be fall off the bone delicious. Can serve with mashed potatoes.
lol that Adam Driver clip is from Girls, they actually have a rabbit eating scene in season 2.
I did the same thing when I was younger cutting some cheese.
Mike, my mum would call that `stoop` too, lol, when she made a hick hearty soup like that. Cooking the rabbit in the instant pot was a great idea, I Iike rabbit but hate when the bones are left in!
We got a kick out of Mike rattling the solid book shelf ha ha ha😊. I would have need a trip to town to keep my mind off cutting my finger too🤔. Rabbit meat is something I’ve never tried but it looks good Meagan.
The most adventurous meat I've eaten was alligator at a state fair. First time was nuggets...they were mushy and tasted kind of like fishy chicken. The 2nd time it was a sausage and there would be no way I would know what meat it was it was just sausage lol.
Ya’ll might do well investing in a milk cow. Lol
Cool im from montréal
Asher coming put with his bowl talking about little kids not allowed on the bench. . . . Uh dude? You're the third one there. Esther, Andrew, Pearl, AND Peter are older than you.
Hi family 😊😊
Your soups look delish!
I say BS to rabbit tasting like chicken. My dad made "chicken & dumplings" one time with rabbit and didn't tell us. We kids knew there was something different with the "chicken". We all thought the off taste meant it was spoiled. He finished ally fessed up about a week later. As a result I've never been able to eat rabbit. And I don't eat chicken & dumplings unless I personally make it
Apparently you had wild rabbit. Taste is completely different. I can't eat wild meat . Too gamey. Totally different with tame rabbits. I love those.
@@lelanoel3499 I'm pretty sure it was one of the neighbors meat rabbits. My dad wanted to raise meat rabbits so he tested us to see if we would eat it. The experiment failed miserably, lol
@@lelanoel3499 Yep, my mom used to soak wild rabbit in vinegar for a few hours to alleviate the gamy flavor a bit. I love both wild and raised though I prefer tame if it's just fried. Any soup, casserole, etc I'm good with wild.
odear megan hope your thumb has heals soon
Used band-aids in the pool are still worse than a used bandage at Walmart.
