Lmao I was watching this the night before I gave birth to my oldest son. I was so exhausted, it was like 4am. I didn’t have a middle name for him but immediately wrote down Jonah Gage. 😂😂 Everyone gets so mad when they know where his middle name is from. Most people hear it and know exactly where it’s from. Thankfully he’s 17 now and likes his name. But it always makes me laugh that I picked his name from this movie. Gage was just seriously the cutest little toddler even when he was an evil lil zombie 🤣
And the truck driver having to see the toddler come onto the highway. The look of sheer terror on his face was scary and the ending of the scene. He was probably going 65 maybe 70 mph and he suddenly slammed on the brakes causing the truck along with trailer to capsize into a deadly rollover. If he survived he be so grief stricken over the fact his truck hit Gage.
I know this is weird but the thing that REALLY got me about this scene is how he was in a dead on SPRINT after him instead of that cliche fake run you see all the time...it really gives the scene just that much more emotion and I applaud for that 👏
Dale Midkiff who plays Louis said interview that whole scene and when he yells he invisioned real life scenario of his whole own kid if had happened to him that was great acting, it's also crazy that a scary movie like this would make you cry, I can't think of any other scary movie that I've cried to besides this one?
Even inside especially when they are young, make sure they never play with a stove or try to put their tiny fingers inside wall sockets. My mom has a way of teaching kids about danger.
speaking of hawks, there was a video of when a bird picked up a baby and flew off with it while the family was having a picnic in a field, then it dropped it from a hude distance away from the ground after realising it wasnt food
@@Phil451 yeah that's the part that always makes me go REALLY??? YOU TRIP RIGHT THERE?! But the kid being run over haunted me as a kid, lived rent free in my mind for the longest time 🙈
EXACTLY 👋 I feel the same way. People think I'm overprotective, but things can happen in a instant with a small baby. And toddlers can move faster than what people expect especially when they're chasing down a toy they want.
This scene is particularly tragic because it shows how life can suddenly become dark in the blink of an eye. One minute, the family is having a picnic with their friend Jud, laughing and having a great time. The next, their toddler is dead and so are all their hopes and dreams for him.
I saw this movie scene when I was 8 and it traumatized me. The one thing that makes me feel better is seeing both of the men chasing after him, and the fact that the truck flips over...everybody did try to save him.
I didn't realize it until later years but after seeing this as a young teen, I think it was the reason I had an intense fear of living on any remotely busy road when my kids were little.
For me, this was the second most heart-breaking scene in the movie. The wasy Louis screams is just soul-wrenching. The first was when Louis has to kill Gage by injecting him and Gage cries out in pain. The look on Louis's face is just... devastation. Even all these years later I still remember these scenes with clarity just because of how emotionally impactful they were.
I felt bad for the whole family by default, but I did NOT feel sorry for Louis or Rachel. They neglected their child not once but TWICE, near a super-busy road. Its not like they did not know about the trucks or even SEE a neighbor pull their child out the road in time! I know the story claims the Evil influenced them to be more neglectful, but not at the beginning....& they were just crappy parents & I think the Evil knew they were vulnerable because of this lack of intelligence.
This scene is even more terrifying because something like this almost happened to Stephen King’s own son. He was able to reach him in time, but was haunted by the thought of what might’ve happened if he had been just a second slower. This is what inspired him to write Pet Sematary.
“why does a kid have to die?” because the grief of losing a child is far worse than anything, and it’ll make you want to do absolutely everything to get them back

This movie is very depressing and dark. Everything from Pascow's death to Church's death. Missy's death by hanging & everything with Zelda, to this scene with Gage is absolutely traumatizing and devastating. Jud's death to Louis having to put Gage down again and having to relive losing his son again, to losing his wife. It's a good movie, but super depressing all around.
In the novel, it talks about how gage kinda realizes last minute that he messed up because of the way his father screams his name in a panic. But unfortunately his forward momentum made it impossible for him to stop, and he stumbled out in the road. Louis finds his sneakers 20 yards away, his jumper turned inside out at 50 yards, and finally gage at 75 yards. It's messed up.
Poor Gage. I knew he was dead when I seen that shoe. And it looks like his foot is still in the shoe too. A shoe would go limp if it came off of someone's foot, but this one didn't.
I'll just share a little story; I live in Eastern Europe. The house right across the street was the first house built in our street. The woman living there lived until 101. She died in 2015. In the 1940s she had her first child. We live on the main road, but back then a truck would pass through here maybe once a week, even less. We were basically one of the poorest parts of the world at the time. People still mainly used horses and carriages. But exactly at that one time a week that a truck passed by for 10 seconds, her son was out on the road and got hit and killed on the spot. She never recovered from it.
What gets me the most, every time, is the part they didn't include in this clip. Where the father screams in anguish right after it happens as they put flashes of Gage"s baby pictures on screen, so tragic and sad.
I love how much of this was similar to the book, like how the dad was a reach away from grabbing Gage but tripped at the last second, and the blood in his shoe..
@@gmar7836 or i'm a fan of the emotional grip the book had and am happy they adapted it into the movie? A lot of people enjoyed pet sematary so i think you're on the wrong video to be preaching about sounding disturbed.
There is no way the mother could have gotten the baby due to the distance, the dad was much closer so the best thing she did was she encouraged her husband to save the baby. Any mother would have done what she did
What makes this even more sad is that you can see how hard the dad was trying to stop him but still failed and the fact that the kid was only like 2😩😩.
After becoming a parent, scenes like this become the most horrifying thing ever no gore or lovecraftian nightmare will ever come close to the fear of your children being hurt or killed, I can’t even watch the whole clip. Instincts are wild.
My mother told me when I was around 3 we had gone out for the day and she got me out of my car seat and I just started running out the car park. We were right by a really busy road and she was running after me and calling me while I ran. I wasn’t looking where I was going, I was looking back at her and laughing. Some man caught me just as I was about to run in the road.
This scene was a relief for me because I hate it when movies treat kids like this invincible characters where no harm can be done to them. This broke that trope and shows that the story has no problem killing whatever character
Maybe he sees the true talent of acting in kids, I mean look at Miko Hughes, its remarkable a child of his age in this movie his acting skills are phenomenally perfect!
The dad is an idiot for turning his back on a toddler for more than 2 seconds and then falling like he was having a flashback of his high school football days.
I mean technically yeah. The dad is an average man and almost reached him. Usain Bolt would've been around 10-15 mph faster than him and would've reached the baby in time
Starry Sky Buttercup 2468 and the fact that his entire family were a witness to him being torn apart(and they couldn’t scream or say anything for risk of being harmed themselves)
But it's never for second. When this happens to people, it's because they are idiots who turn away for much longer especially when it's dangerous to turn your back
I like how the guy driving the truck actually tried to slow down and looked shocked scare and worried when he saw Gage on the road and that he actually cared about him he even swerved his truck to try and avoid him
Despite whatever weird ideas you obviously have, the majority of people would react that way. Most people, even the horrible ones such as myself, would not feel good about plowing over and killing a baby..
For some it affects emotion, some people can take useful life lessons for it and..... Fubn fact: films hypnotise it's why people feel ac emotion to films
This scene literally broke my heart man....Gage was so innocent and adorable he really didnt deserve to be killed like that...this is why im scared to have children cause i know ill be very over protective and cautious.
Bc sometimes I’ll be at work at then they might be walking from school and then they might get snatched or killed and I don’t even know where they will be....
a 3 years old can´t develop independence, instead of overprotecting them just teach them about being aware of surroundings and never trust strangers when i was 7 i manage to walk 40 minutes from my house to school, back in 2006
It's not said in the movie but the Wendigo (evil spirit) has an influence over the general area and it makes all truck drivers within a range drive faster to increase the chances of someone being killed in this case Gage Creed.
Never forget this scene, parents worst nightmare. When my son was little I watched him like a hawk. I was so overprotective. 😢This scene breaks my heart
I saw this movie as a child and this is one scene that has ALWAYS stuck with me. Now as a parent of 2, I couldn’t imagine the horror and sorrow that the parents felt. Always will stick with me.
god i forgot how brutal this scene was the shot of inside the cab as the kid is standing right in front of the truck is such a scary sight to even imagine behind the wheel
And I'm pretty sure he tried to dive and catch the kids feet, before he ran into traffic, if a semi can knock the head off a adult human bieng can you imagine what itll do to a toddler?
People really misunderstand this scene. That said, this scene depicts 2 important things that the book explains a lil better: everyone's reactions are different to tension. Louis races to save the kid out of pure instinct and so does Jud while Ellie and Rachel freeze in fear and shock. Jud knows he will never reach Gage, which is why he runs and yells his name wildly in frustration. It happens in real life. People react different. Simple as that. The second thing that is happening here is the power of the Pet Sematary at work. The place facilitated this tragedy and Louis was warned of this but he could never understand it, no one could. It just explained better as ''the place gets ahold of you". From the moment Gage started running after the kite and Louis became distracted, it was all falling into place.
@@mercedesbeatrizescubet6807 Well, I see the similarity but no, it's not the same. In Final Destination, it is known that Death is stalking them and unraveling its different works to achieve its purpose. Although, you never see Death in the movies, it is portrayed as a supernatural force that is out to exact the plan it had for its victims originally. In Pet Sematary, it is a Wendigo. An ancient Native American demon whose power domain lies in a place where Native Americans laid their dead to rest and believed that the soil had magical powers to bring them back to life. Once they realized the dead came back to life in a completely evil way because they no longer had a soul and the possession replaced it, they condemned the grounds and stopped using it, as they felt that it was the workings of a malign presence. Early Native Americans didn't have an actual religion until settlers brought it upon them but they were spiritual and they believed in good and bad forces, just like any other.

My aunt told me that when my mom was pregnant with my older sister, she had a breakdown after watching this and begged her to turn it off. Even watching this at 31 years old, this scene still rocks me. The performance of the father and the editing in of the flashbacks hits you right in your core..
omg when i watched this scene, I literally cried. An innocent little baby died from a man hitting him with a truck. Although it's just a movie, it's still preety sad :(
This movie hit too close to home for my family personally. My cousin almost became dead like Gage at that age. And he was about his age. My grandparents lived on a house like that right before a huge high way. Everyone would go maybe 60+ MPH on that road. And he had walked out in just a diaper. But the trucker stopped and grabbed him out of the road thankfully. And ever since the rule was you go past the flag pole without a adult you got spanked after that. That happened about the same time that movie came out.
Dang the same thing but with me I was about the same age and we live on a busy street with a bunch of shops around us and gas stations, our house is only about 60 feet from the road and when we had a family picnic I went running towards the road and to oncoming traffic my dad said he ran as fast as he could but I was too far away, the thing that saved me was our dog named boots he came running and tackled me down and took me to my dad man I loved that dog and I didn’t even know that until he died and I was old enough to understand this scene still gives me chills especially when the father starts screaming wow
Crashed a company car trying to avoid a kid that wandered out into the middle of the road. I swerved at 45 to 50 MPH. Ended up rolling over multiple times. The caravan I was driving was crushed over the drivers seat but i didn’t have a mark on me. The folks who’s baby it was thought I had to be dead till the rear window was shattered by a glass breaker. I just crawled out and calmly called 911. Dash cam saved my rear proved that according to the police my reaction was just a second early enough to miss the kid completely. Company decided that I was going to make calls from the office from that point on
I thought so too. At the time, I remember critics almost laughing at Dale Midkiff here, saying his yelling "No! NOoooo!" was over the top. I am glad others at the time replied "How would YOU react to seeing your child mowed down by a semi?!!"
@@dinosaurtimeandfunnyvideos well firstly, you’re probably an “edge-lord” that thinks having no sense of empathy is good. secondly, the bus driver was surely going over the speed limit and not fully aware of his surroundings. so half the blame is on him, half the blame is on the parents, none is on the child
This movie has me sobbing. Imagine a parent so grief stricken that they would try anything to bring back their child. Absolutely heart breaking. Sending so much love to those who have lost a precious child❤🙏🏼🕊️
Same. Stephen King is amazing pushing the boundaries of what people back then were willing to write about, especially in horror genre - creating such a strong emotional reaction to something no one wants to think about. Used to be a bit of a fictional rule - not placing fictional children in extreme danger/horrific situations. It's been used more since then because it really ups the emotional stakes. This was the one horror book that had me unexpectedly stifle-sobbing. (So embarrassing when this happens on public transport.) It was so wrenching. Also, the way SK structured it in the book, so we're not experiencing the death in real time - just a jumpcut to the funeral, installing a flashback. Them being at a funeral put me in shock because one moment there's the possiblity of death/harm to the child, even some semblance of crazy hope, but the next its the total immersive full acceptance that Gage is dead, for family and relatives and the main character (Dad) and all the grief like a tonne of bricks (instead of the confusion and disbelief, shock and numbness that comes with the initial accident - usually just adrenaline and dealing with what has to be done). It's like being ripped from the adrenaline, and plunged into the emotional horror, bypassing the stage where your brain tries to get a grip on things, and then cleverly, and mercilessly, we're taken into the father's flashback of the death, with the grief overlaid and turned up full-bore. Experiencing the grief and self-blame over the adrenaline was torture, and so masterful, and even though all the details are left out of the movie, they're so imprinted on me that I can't stand to watch this scene. Also, Gage looks exactly like my youngest son did at that age. (Having said all this, I'll be embarrassed if I find that's it's not how I've remembered it - I'm old now ...)
I am a 42 year old man and don't have children and have never came close to having a child with a women 😂😂 but I can only imagine a parent loosing thier kids to death especially at an age of 2 months to 4 years of age its very sad. That is a tough situation and probably most people aren't strong enough to cope with that. They will end up committing suicide or committed to a state mental hospital for the worst craziest people in life generally.I hope they can cope because our world looses enough humans to death.Your life is precious and I just want them to know that 😢
@@C4LLM3AN1MAL Absolutely. In all likelihood, the mother would've at least made an attempt, irrespective of how unlikely the chance of an auspicious outcome would be. It's totally plausible. I'm not contesting whether she would or wouldn't try to catch the child. In a moment like that, fight/flight take preponderance over rational thought. I was merely suggesting that judging the mother for using rational thought is wrong.
my mom's brother was fatally run over by a truck when he was 3. horrible. This fictional occurrance effectively sets up the rest of the movie, emotionally. Steven King really tapped into primal stuff back in the day.

I would not stop running for gage

@@herd-shep I agree. The overturned truck that clearly states death in both cases was hard to see.
@@matatosky So Pet Sematary's power or influence is pretty similar to Final Destiny, right? Like a supernatural force that leads people to death

Better to be spanked and cry for a day than for your entire family to mourn for decades.

Bless u🤍
I've lost 2.

I am a 42 year old man and don't have children and have never came close to having a child with a women 😂😂 but I can only imagine a parent loosing thier kids to death especially at an age of 2 months to 4 years of age its very sad. That is a tough situation and probably most people aren't strong enough to cope with that. They will end up committing suicide or committed to a state mental hospital for the worst craziest people in life generally.I hope they can cope because our world looses enough humans to death.Your life is precious and I just want them to know that 😢
If you take out the horror movie elements subsequent to this scene, you'd get a PIF about keeping an eye on your kids.
