Thanks bbc! Thanks to you, I have successfully improved my listening skills and vocabulary, respectively. This has helped me to pass my IELTS tests with flying colours!
as a foreigner woking in another country away from homeland, life has been characterised by loneliness for a while. Hopefully things will get better after building up more connection with people around and the society along the time
In my opinion, one of the best way to bring people together is to encourage them to engage in any community activities. I feel grateful for having a chance to listen to your podcast weekly.
Loneliness is a problem that affects elederly people but not only them. There are many people who feel alone, mainly in the big cities where it's more difficult to make friendships or stay connected with other people if you aren't able to take advantage of the social chances you have, for example, at work or at school. A few people for their weaknesses or just because they can't approach other people, are left out and kept at margins of society
Bringing elderly people together with students or their own grandchildren is a great idea for both elderly and younger people who can spend their leisure time cooking soup or playing something or maybe just chatting.
Since pandemic time, it has been a concern that several people feel down due to emotional disconnection, It is a reality in our society that it could lead to depression and other mental conditions. Thanks, BBC for avoiding elephant in the rooms.
Thank you for learning with us 😊. 'Addressing the elephant in the room' is a great idiom to use in this situation 👍. If you 'avoid the elephant in the room' then you deliberately try not to talk about a difficult topic 🤓
I craved to join the chess club because I had free time, but they didn't let me enter. I felt left out, so I turned to a guy I knew who was a friend of the chess club teacher. The teacher and I played a game, and he realized that I was good and let me join the club. Ultimately, the teacher brought our community members together, even though we usually do things alone.
Last week I went on a picnic with my classmates and teacher. Despite the fact that I had pleasant moments their .since that day so far , I have been feeling left out. Somehow, I have strange feelings. I believe being around people is also an issue for introverted people like me .
In our country we make soup with our parents and grandparents every week because many familis live all together. I didn’t know that this is a way of fighting loneliness😄 To be honest, most people in our country feel lonely. It seems that the world has plunged into hatred and darkness. And there is no way out. We have a war here. Every day could be the last. Therefore you, people who live in peaceful countries, please, enjoy every day, live, don't be afraid to communicate with each other and make soup together!😀
I used to be lonely even when my family was by my side. It was such a miserable habit. Loneliness isolated me from the real world, not the people around me. Everything was abnormal for me. So I took up listening to the English podcasts on mental issues improving my English. It did me good! Now, I can boost up my mental health, thanks to BBC Learning English. 🤸
I think it is a necessary issue for everyone to study how to deal well with loneliness ,life is a long movie ,and you are the only core character, anyone can understand what you are experiencing.
I feel absolutely comfortable with myself 🙂 I don’t feel left out or anything. But in my opinion, it’s a good idea to bring older generations with young people together. Especially, if older ones don’t have any children or relatives to turn to them for help or just for communication. Besides, younger guys can find useful to talk with older people to get some life experience from them. 😊
i crave long-term friendships, im really an introvert, always feel left out around ppl, everyone doesnt wanna make a great long conversation w me, partly bc of my poor communication i think. i have quite much of leisure time cause im jobless right now, so i installed some chat app in order to have someone to turn to n ask for some conversations, also wanna be bring together into a larger n more interesting community
Thank you for this special podcast. In fact, Chinese people like making soup and a gourmet meal with wholesome soup can surely bring people together. 🎉😊
Unfortunately as we get older, our social connections and relationships get less and less and the best way to overcome loneliness is by getting married and having children to brighten up our life.
Yeah i agree with you, but i think married is not only one solution to out from your loneliness, and BBC is suggest you to make a soup with your family ☠️
Honestly, loneliness is not too negative aspect. I think it's a great chance to start something new or fun. When I am used to being lone, and I can do lots of activities or hobbies which I like😅😅😅

In the materialistic world loneliness is not confined to and affecting people of one particular nation it has now sadly crept to and become global phenomenon..

Great concept! Alas, my mom doesn't like the British accent... are there any channels like this for American English?
