I'm so glad you've decided to hang the William Morris quilt in the dining room. That one just sings, and I bet it will be perfect. Please post pics when it's up, so we can see!
I am so in love with your William Morris quilt! I have just taken a long arm class and will be able to rent their machine for $20 an hour. Long arm quilters earn their money for sure! I will be driving the machine and following a pattern with a laser. It is exhausting and thrilling. I want to practice free motion designs on my domestic machine before trying it on the long arm. It is so fun and rewarding.
All your quilts are professional looking. Beautiful. Wow. You are certainly not a beginner. I love civil war fabrics. I used to get work basket magazine in the 80’s. Nice booklets.
Have you thought of “signing” your quilts? I’ve found that dating and signing quilted items helps with the providence of the items. You’d be amazed how years later you wonder, “when did I make that?”. I use a permanent micro ink marker and find a corner to use, or make a patch from a neutral fabric and sew it to the backing. I’m enjoying your enthusiasm for your new craft ❤
Yes!! I've been trying to figure out the best way to sign them and wondered if ink can be used. Thanks for letting me know a permanent micro marker is safe to use, Julia!💖
Also, if you have leftovers from the William Morris fabric, what about something quilted to coordinate? Seat cushions? Placemats? The fabric is so elegant.
Kristin, your quilts are lovely. Years ago I started EPP with the Grandmother's Garden hexie quilt. By years ago, I'm talking like 2014ish. We moved and downsized in 2016 and somewhere along the lines my box of hexies/flowers disappeared (along with other stuff too, LOL). But lately, I have been itching to start up again so I just started cutting my hexies yesterday to make a Christmas table runner. Needless to say, I am thoroughly enjoying your ventures into quilting. Along with your knitting and crochet as well. I am definitely multi craftual.
I went down a rabbit hole, not too deep. Counted Cross Stitch! Haven't done it in years, kind of rounding out the end of summer. Then sweater time again. I needed a palate cleanser
Oh I love all your quilts and the Marled Magic Shawl. I am doing some Big stitch quilting with Hand dyed pearl cotton No 5 and No 8 while watching your podcast. I can't remember the name of the pattern it was from an Australian quilter magazine from about 15 years ago.
Love your quit tops and fabric choices. They have clips that make it easier to maneuver your quilt while working on your home machine. You role the sides and clip it and makes it much more manageable.
Awesome podcast 🎉 loved all of your quilts. I am a quilter and knitter, and have just started quilting lately so I was so inspired by your beautiful quilts. Thank you so much ❤
OMG!! We seem to be living parallel crafting lives at the moment. I've been following you for several years for your yarn dyeing, knitting, and sewing content, and I recently fell hard down the rabbit hole of quilting too!! It is so very addicting. And the colors....oh my! I wear only muted, neutrals and I'm going nuts with brilliant colors in quilting. I really relate to your excitement. So fun! Great job on your new quilts! Can't wait for more! ❤
I LOVE your Kensington Kaleidoscope quilt, Kristin! Your quilting detour has served you well, my friend! ♥BTW, will you be at Rhinebeck this year? It would be so fun to run into you there.
Your quilts are stunning! I can see how the colours & patterns would be addictive. Looking forwards to seeing your autumnal colours, be it quilting, knitting or crocheting. Thank you for sharing 😺🧶
You make me want to start quilting but first I need to learn how to use sewing machine. Love that orangey pink fabrics. Your quilts are beautiful. How long does it take to make a quilt and what is the best way for a beginner to get a taste.
Thank you so much! Dooooo iiiit!!! Once you learn how to make a straight stitch, you can do anything. 🌎🦪🙌 Depending how much free time I have I can finish a throw-sized quilt top in a week or so. I actually started a quilt over the weekend and will probably finish the quilt top today (monday). They come together pretty quick! 😄 The best place I always recommend to start is to get a charm pack of 5"x5" fabric prints you love + another contrasting solid charm pack to make a simple square block quilt - creating several strips of squares, then sewing each strip together to make a baby-size blanket. You can easily find batting and binding on Amazon and you can use an old bed sheet as the backing. Missouri Star also has some fantastic beginner-friendly tutorials on UA-cam! Here's a quick 9-patch quilt using a jelly roll: ua-cam.com/video/Quzu2H5xeGQ/v-deo.html Hope this helps!
Lol! You certainly have been bitten by the MSQC bug! So inspiring…I see myself getting back to quilting. ❤ I have several projects that need finished. 😆😆
All of your quilts are beautiful! I'm also a quilter and I mostly use my walking foot to top stitch after I discovered the book Foolproof Walking-Foot Quilting Designs. It's a game changer!
You’ve inspired me to try to knit the marled magic shawl again… to get my mind off my Achilles injury that no one has been able to help me with yet …. crazy. I went through my stash and found the most Halloween (zombie-like) colors I could find… my favorite holiday… hoping it will help distract me. Great video! Beautiful quilts and unbelievable progress on the Marled magic Shawl! I am such a slow knitter.🖤
Oh no! I'm so sorry - that sounds like an awful injury.😓 But yes!! Marled magic has so many fun twists and turns and colors ... definitely a nice distraction😄 A zombie-themed one sounds awesome!! Feel better soon!
Aww, thanks, Terri! What an awesome compliment. Maybe it's a sign I've been watching too much Quilt Nerd - Mary's livestream here on UA-cam and Twitch. 🙈 She's so fun! 💖
I know me and my girls would love a tutorial on fixing brioche. I haven't tried it because there is no help on youtube. Everything you make is stunning!❤❤
Love your quilt show! I’m totally getting into it myself. Started with a few baby quilt gifts and throws and now experimenting with 8 pointed star blocks and just made wall hangings. I’d love to see more quilt videos with techniques if you ever have time. You are so talented! If you open any more rabbit holes we may be in trouble. Lol. You got me interested in spinning and now I’m hooked and now I also wanna try hex paper piecing. You are a bad influence friend! Lol. Love your vids. Keep Em coming!!!❤
OMG, the quilting on your William Morris quilt took my breath away. If I ever send them a quilt I will leave it to the experts too! I’m a knitter who is quilting now too. It’s so fun to finish a project so quickly.
Right?! They really know what they’re doing. Pairing fabric to a stitch pattern - It’s an art in itself! In enjoy the slow process of knitting but also love how quickly quilts are to make.
I bought a sewing machine to eventually get into quilting - and I absolutely SUCK at using it. Mucked up several simple sewing patterns and got too discouraged to attempt a quilting pattern, thinking fabric would be too precious to mess up with. Le sigh.
Beautiful quilts, Kristin! Workbasket was a fun little magazine in its day. I believe I had a subscription many years ago, but I think they stopped publishing in the 80's.
The Fancy charm pack has Candy From Strangers vibes 🧡💞 ... The Cheddar & Coal is EPIC. THAT would make an amazing Getaway Quilt style pattern. Gooood things coming up for you to sew!! And, I am SO happy my bag is bringing you joy. Thank you for mentioning me 🤭.
Pink + Orange is apparently my new color obsession 😂 Can't get enough of your project bags - they speak to my quilting soul ATM, and happy to spread the word!
Hey, Kristin, great content today!! Do you have have any quilting podcasts or channels you watch that you'd recommend? I think I learned about Quilt Nerd from you, and I love it, but it's a commitment!
Her episodes really are a commitment, aren't they?! I usually save them for nights when Dennis has band practice or dip in and out whenever I have the time. I recently stumbled on "A Quilting Life" with Sherri and Chelsi (mom and daughter) They're calming to listen to and have lots of great patterns and inspiration! The others I watch are mostly how-tos and tutorials like "Just Get it Done Quilts", and "Jordan Fabrics". 😄
@@Voolenvine Thank you! Yes, I have to save up Quilt Nerd eps for when I run out of all my other subscribed UA-cam vids 😅. I'll check out these others you mentioned!
Beautiful quits and I love the shawl too💕💕💕
I'm so glad you've decided to hang the William Morris quilt in the dining room. That one just sings, and I bet it will be perfect. Please post pics when it's up, so we can see!
Beautiful quilts♥
Fabulous episode!! Wow impressive! Thank you :)
Free motion quilting in the Irish chain will look wonderful.
Kristin, your quilts are amazing! I love the old Work Basket magazines. I used to have a subscription in the 80’s…yes I’m that old😀
I too had a subcription to Work Basket back in-the-day; also had some of my grandmothers and may still if I dig deep!! 🤗

Oh wow! I'm so excited for you, Tina! Long-arm quilting is truly an art. Would love to give one a whirl some day.
All your quilts are professional looking. Beautiful. Wow. You are certainly not a beginner.
I love civil war fabrics.
I used to get work basket magazine in the 80’s. Nice booklets.
Thank you so much! I’m having so much fun perusing these Workbasket mags

I should have mentioned that I use the fine tip.
I love all of your quilts. ❤ I have been a crazy quilter myself lately. Thanks for sharing. And… I just purchased the Getaway pattern. I’m so excited.
Yay! I hope you enjoy making it as much as I did. It’s a quickie! 😄
Also, if you have leftovers from the William Morris fabric, what about something quilted to coordinate? Seat cushions? Placemats? The fabric is so elegant.
Same Schlamassel over here. I like the muted and antiques, Yves the modern and rainbow colours. Life is a compromise. 😂
A delicate balance of the practical and impractical! 😂

Beautiful projects. I’m in quilting mode right now. Although looking to start the tessellated vest by Andrea Mowry.
That was such a gem of an episode!!!! So INSPIRING. Everything is beautiful!!!!! - Kimberly

Yes, please make a pineapple quilt
Quilting hides all manner of sins - so it is the blocking of the blanket world!
Indeed it is!😆
