Parasnath is an ancient mountain peak and situated in the Parasnath hill Range. It is located in eastern end of the Chota Nagpur Plateau in the Giridih district,Jharkhand, India. The hill is named after Parshvanatha, the 23rd Jain Tirthankara who got salvation here. there is Jain pilgrimage Shikharji on the top of hill. The hill also known as Marang Buru by Santhals.
At 1365 m Parasnath is the highest mountain peak in the state of Jharkhand,
There is a beautiful Jain temple on the mountain peak known as "Svarna Bhadra koot " ("cottage of golden grace " ).The temple is made of marble.There is another marble jain temple on hill known as Jal Mandir.
This is one of the most holy and revered sites for the Jain community. They call it Sammed Sikharji. It is a major pilgrimage site. Out of 24 Tirthankaras of Jains, 20 got nirvana on Parshvnatha Hills.
On the mountain, there are the Shikharji Jain temples, an important tirthakshetra or Jain pilgrimage site. For each Tirthankara there is a shrine called gumti or Tonk, on the hill.
The Jain temple is believed to be constructed by Magadha King Bimbisara.
Who is Parshvanath?
Parshvanath is one of the earliest Tirthankara who is acknowledged as a historical figure. The Jain sources place him between the 9th and 8th centuries BCE whereas historians consider that he lived in the 8th or 7th century BCE.
Parshvanath was born 273 years before Mahavira. He was the spiritual successor of the 22nd Tirthankar Neminath. He is popularly seen as a propagator and reviver of Jainism. Parshvanatha attained moksha on Mount Sammeda,Madhuban, Jharkhand.popular as Parasnath hill in the Ganges basin, an important Jain pilgrimage site. His iconography is notable for the serpent hood over his head, and his worship often includes Dharanendra and Padmavati.
Parshvanath was born in Benaras (Varanasi), India. Renouncing worldly life, he founded an ascetic community. Texts of the two major Jain sects (Digambaras and Śvetambaras) differ on the teachings of Parshvanath and Mahavir, and this is a foundation of the dispute between the two sects. The Digambaras believed that there was no difference between the teachings of Parshvanatha and Mahavira.
According to the Svetambaras, Mahavir expanded Parshvanatha's first four restraints with his ideas on ahimsa (non-Violence )and added the fifth monastic vow. Parshvanatha did not require celibacy and allowed monks to wear simple outer garments. Svetambara texts, of the Acharanga Sutra, say that Mahavira's parents were followers of Parshvanatha.

पारसनाथ पहाडी झारखंड के गिरिडीह जिले में स्थित पहाड़ियों की एक श्रृंखला है। उच्चतम चोटी 1350 मीटर है। यह जैन के लिए सबसे महत्वपूर्ण तीर्थस्थल केंद्र में से एक है। वे इसे सम्मेद शिखर कहते हैं। 23 वें तीर्थंकर के नाम पर पहाड़ी का नाम पारसनाथ रखा गया है। 20 जैन तीर्थंकरों ने इस पहाड़ी पर मोक्ष प्राप्त किया। उनमें से प्रत्येक के लिए पहाड़ी पर एक मंदिर (गुमटी या तुक) है। पहाड़ी पर कुछ मंदिर 2,000 साल से अधिक पुराने माना जाता है। हालांकि यह जगह प्राचीन काल से बनी हुई है, मंदिरों की हालिया उत्पत्ति हो सकती है। संथाल इस देवता की पहाड़ी की मारंग बुरु कहते हैं। वे बैसाख (मध्य अप्रैल) में पूर्णिमा दिवस पर एक शिकार त्यौहार मनाते हैं।
