Hi Michael, What a great series on mics and recording. I have referred to many times to an earlier one from quite a few years ago, that I copied from your site, lots of great info in that as well. I've used the ZOOM H-1 for years, as a general work horse mic, from hand held in interviews, to recording 'live' on a stand for reference, and running through my Mackie 1202's tape IN & OUT for on-stage performances and semi-studio recordingwith my (non-gong) partner Celtic harpist Jennifer White. Like I said it has been a great little mic, it's biggist draw back for me has been the lack of XLR in and Phantom Power. I've as Santa for an H-4 or even an H-5 for Christmas this year, partly because of your great presentation of them. As for shock-mounts for dynamic and small condenser mics, have you looked at the "ON-STAGE" MY-series? They work great for quick set-up, on location sessions. They are basically a regular clip-on mic on a rubber shock absorber, that can stay on the stand, ready to go, no spider web to contend with. We even have one mounted inside of Jennifer's harp so as not to pick-up movement when performing. You can find them in most music stores, and their description is at: on-stage.com/specsheets/11277.pdf Keep up the great presentations, my coffee cup is always at the ready. Here's hoping we can soon get out there doing "LIVE SOUND" to real people once again. Hi as for me just wanting to record my crystal bowls ,gong, chimes tongue drum, in a small room ,what or which mics would you recommend . idea is to be able to get on pc to make cd recordings , Thanks' Eddie
I would recommend a pair of small diaphragm condenser mics (SDC) into either a handheld digital recorder (like ZOOM or TASCAM), or through a recording interface into your computer. The SDCs are very versatile and can be used separately, or in stereo if you are recording playing 'live.'
Very helpful. Thank you!!
