People may think Pandaria is childish, but the whole Garrosh plot was one of the darkest points of WoW, unlike the Lich King or the Burning Legion, this felt more real to me. There isn't a supernatural evil force behind it (except the Sha, but that's later). The things Garrosh and his horde did, have already happened and still happen to this day on our world, so yeah, it was one the darkest moments for me.

Vicente P People who call Mists of Pandaria "childish" are idiots. That expansion had some of the most mature story telling I've seen in WoW. When I say 'mature" I mean real maturity, and not that poser maturity that a 12-year-old, tween, or Frank Miller would come up with.
It dealt with themes of slavery, manifest destiny (the belief that one's race/people are meant to rule all others), and the consequences of war. It wasn't perfect and got a little preachy at times. However it gave Azeroth, it gave the World of Warcraft, something I believe it needed. It gave it a 3rd dimension.
MoP let everyone know that, despite the game's title, the World of Warcraft was more then just guys in blue and guys in red clubbing each other to death for "teh phat lootz and lulz."
Then there is the Sha. Let's see a parasitic organism(s) that are of one (of seven) minds that can infect people without them knowing it. It proceeds to slowly, or quickly, drive the person insane and paranoid until it completely assimilates them. Hmm... where have I seen that before? Oh right, John Carpenter's The Thing.

+Gruntman1234 yep, remember Sunwalker Dezco, that Paladin Tauren that his wife died during childbirth. One of the twins (the one who has received our character name) was terrible killed and the other was gived to the golden lotus

+Gruntman1234 the manifest destiny theme was diminished by the zandalari sub plot, they lost their lands and are nearly extinct ,so we just keep killing them

I wholeheartedly agree with you guys. I was going to post a comment similar to yours because I feel the exact same way. MoP affected me in a way no other expansion had before, it made me feel true emotions. I felt anger, hatred, disgust, despair, sadness, and when we had finally beaten Garrosh, triumph. It truly made me reflect on not only my characters in game, but myself as a person.

I had a creepy experience once...was sitting in Tanaan on a rare spawn point, contemplating the meaning of life and thinking of quitting all together, when suddenly I saw a Paladin past by me. Not paying attention but suddenly (s)he passed under my mouse cursor and saw it was "Nobbel the Noble" from the realm Terrok, and I'm not even on that realm...so yea, either it was realm hopping or just a weird coincidence but creepy stuff happens in Tanaan..

I once happened to walk into the armoury bit in the Paladin class hall and see a human paladin by the name 'Nobbel the Noble'. It was only for a second before they logged off but the chances of that seemed remote, considering around that time I rarely visited the class hall and I wasn't aware how often Nobbel was there.

No but seriously one of the creepiest things in wow is the path of glory. When I first read the quest from the draenei in Honor hold I was shocked, that whole road wqs made out of draenei bones. Still creeps me out every time i go there.

I will never be so interested and involved in a side quest ever again i think.

16:17 that is actually a part of Kharazan, it was meant to hold some bosses in there and stuff, but due to the creepyness of the place Blizzard got paranoid that Pegi would rate their game to 18 years, that would result in a massive sales drop. So they simple cut the whole place off of the raid zone, but they had already put it in to the world so they just sealed off the exit so that you can't enter. But there is still a way to get in there. Just search it on UA-cam since it is so complex that its way to hard to explain, oh and going in to parts of the game that you are not supposed to visit is against Blizzard's ToS and you will most likely get banned if you get caught.

My creepiest moment in wow was when I was walking on the dead scar in eversong woods and the ghostlands, the bones and skulls moved as I walked on them. That reminded me of the countless of elves murdered by the scourge and resurrected again and again to be part of the horror they fought before. That is pretty damn creepy, not to mention the curse of he wretched; a life condemned to hunt magic and physically changed to show their green crystal eyes all over their bodies

To me, one of the creepiest stories within WoW is the Stalvan Mistmantle story. Falling in love with significantly younger pupil can be kind of creepy on itself, but the fact that when the pupil didn´t return the affection, Stalvan took an axe and mowed down the girl he was in love with, as well as her actual lover and possibly her entire family, that really puts the crown on it.

All was silent in the dark. The screams of the innocents paled off into the night. I light my lantern, though it only gave a dull, faded light, only enough to see what is in front of you. I heard violent scrambling on the edges of the room, my throat begins to swell as droplets of sweat start to cascade down my brow. I turn to face the beast clad in shadows, but all I remember is the crackle of its voice.
    "Me take candle!"

I found none of this creepy, without scary and creepy music. Blizzard artists are masterminds for music... I really wish they add more scary music to scary places or certain parts of lore. The only thing that I find creepy in WoW is Vashj'ir and freakin' underwater uncomfortability, lore as well. Even if its not lore or a story as much... I dare not to go in that zone because if I turn around, I'm gonna see those ugly-ass huge demigods or a god damn whale shark.

Hi Nobbel! Big fan here. I've watched all your videos twice so far. Hehe! Anyways, I've found some pretty creepy things of my own through playing WoW and some through research.
To elaborate on your story of the quest in Hillsbrad, you do see the heads of live humans in the ground. More like, just the heads poking out. Defenseless. Your task is to save them, unfortunately if you are too late to save some of them, the geists hopping around will go up to some of them and feast on their heads. That's when you can hear them screaming, screaming while their defenseless heads are being eaten alive.
Another aspect I found disturbing, when you do your beginning quests as a death knight, one of them is to slay the mayor of the town area. All the citizens have evacuated to the courtyard of the town hall, heavily guarded by the soldiers to protect the citizens. Of course, you as a death knight slay all the soldiers, and once you come near the citizens, they all start to panic and scream in terror once they see you. Of course you encounter more of these citizens earlier in the quest line too. Most of the time when you come up to them, they beg you to spare their live and cry. Of course, you can kill them too. I found this aspect of WoW very disturbing too.
Another disturbing aspect I know of is in the Detention Rock in the entrance of the Blackrock Depths instance, you can hear people being tortured in the distance. You can hear them crying and screaming. Now, when I solo the instance, I couldn't find the people who were being tortured, so I thought at first that I could only listen to their screams, knowing that there was nothing I could do about it. I found that increasingly disturbing.
There's another disturbing aspect as well. There is a building just outside of Goldshire. Go inside the building and head upstairs. You can see six children in a large room. Naturally, you just see them walking around, but if you stick around for a while, you can see them begin to run in a certain pattern. They will all run in this pattern, and then vanish. Shortly afterwards, you hear a voice speak to you, "You. Will. Die." C'thuns voice.
Semifinal to the things I have found disturbing about WoW takes place in the Seige of Orgrimmar. I'm sure we are all familiar with the part where you see Garrosh's vision, should he succeed his war, and then you fight a bunch of creepy things, while Yshaarj whispers to you. There is one line he says that intrigues me. He says, "When you enter the black forest, you will see." When I first found this out, I was like, oh carp! What the heck does that mean?!?"
Also, the new version of Blackfathom Deeps is also disturbing. As soon as you enter the instance, you see a sentinel in distress, pleading for help. Talking to you about how her and the few people with her barely made it out alive, and that the insane cultists were going to sacrifice innocent people. As you go throughout the dungeon, you save them. The first boss encounter beforehand, you witness a cultist trying to absorb the ancient turtle's power. She boasts about how it will soon belong to her, then all of a sudden she begins to panic. "No! NO! It's too soon!" The turtle then overwhelms her with it's power and you hear her scream in pain and terror, while disintegrating into nothing more than a skeleton. After you defeat the turtle, there's a human lady who sounds in distress telling you to hurry and save others from Danitha before she sacrifices them. Just hearing the distress was enough for me to think, "Crap man. This is about to get real!"
You swim to the cave and witness a goblin being lifted by a dark aura screaming, "No! Please! I don't wanna die like this!"
Afterwards, you clear the rest of the dungeon and when you fight Aku'mai, now a bunch of glowing old god tentacles, the Old God's themselves will whisper to you, "You have heard our whispers. Now it is only a matter of time, before you belong to us."
I also found the first new beginning quests for the Forsaken a little disturbing. Raising people from the dead, and they start to panic, with the knowledge that some of them had attached body parts to them...yeah...
And of course, I saved the best for last. I'm sure a lot of you have obtained the ancient puzzle box through Archeology. The things it whispers to you will literally send chills down your spine.
"There is a lamb lost within the darkwoods."
"There are houses in the backwoods, that sleep and dream. It is merciful to cut them down."
"In the city of Nyalotha lie countless unthinkable crimes."
"In the city of Nyalotha walk only mad things."
"He sleeps within the depths of Nyalotha."
    "There is no escape."
    "There is no coming out."
    "Even death can die."
And then of course the two I find the most creepy.
"Your friends will betray you. Run away screaming into the blackwoods."
And of course, the last whisper that I found so creepy, that I had trouble sleeping while hearing the words play in my mind, over and over again.
"Did you have that dream again? A black goat with seven eyes, watching you from the outside."
Clearly there is a lot of mention of this city and this certain area called, the blackwoods...the slumberer HAS to be N'zoth. But mad things...unthinkable crimes...ugh! I sincerely hope we encounter these things and do quests that tell us what exactly these crimes were! I hope that the Dark Below expansion really happens, and I bet the things that the box whispers to you point towards this, realm of the dead beneath the surface.
...man I hate to spoil the creepy mood but I have to ask, can someone tell me what you see under the Kharazan and what kind of creepy stuff do you see in the old Scholomance? Because I am dying to know!

Not just Deadmines, we're no heroes, we're just bouty hunters... Kinda sad if you think about it...
It's like Illidan in TBC, we didn't have any actual reason why we attacked him if i'm not mistaken, maybe i've missed soemthing out, but he wasnt' really a bad guy imho, in WC 3 he didn't do any real bad stuff, he had the mission to kill the Lich King and then he just went to Outland, didn't bother anyone, he was banned from his home afterall, because he absorbed some OP power, stupid reason... He was stronger, not corrupted, that's all...
And what do we do? We go to the BT to farm his goodies, i mean, leave the dude alone ffs ._.
And we got Karazhan back :P

Did we really think that? I don't think so, we all knew before Legion that he wasn't a bad dude, and that thing he did was a stupid reason to close him in, he wanted to help the Nelfs but nope, let's fucking close him in without talking to him, but when he saved Tyrande, he's cool... Malfurion, you jealous fuckface...

Bindair Dundat Did you even watch the video? It's not just a mindless list of creepy-looking sites ... he bases his list on lore-based events and he delivers a gist of the corresponding lore for each point. Don't see it as just a top 10, think of it as "spooky storytime with uncle Nobbel". The only thing you could question is the title since this is not a "top 10" is much more. Don't hate the Nobbel... I know trolls shouldn't be fed, but guess here's your cookie, enjoy! ;)

  • @Leroystenzel

for me the creepiest story in warcraft was not part of the lore... it was something that happend to me and my friend luca. so in easter holidays we played world of warcraft and leveled our mains, complete noobs with no end level charackters yet but still had fun doing quests and just visiting the lands of azeroth.
I had another friend, a classmate of mine,. his name was Olaf and so was his charackters name. he played a troll mage at the time but leveled mostly on his own.
so me and my friend were questing in thousand needles and we saw Olafs charackter in the far, not questing but just standing around. We wanted to say hi and got closer to him. his Troll charackter turned to us and waved his hand and instantly logged out. later we were having fun in stranglethorn valley just running around and killing raptors and crocolisks when we saw olaf again in the distance so we wanted to get closer to him when he suddenly turned to us and waved his hand and dissappeared again without saying a word. he logged out. We were sure it was him because we recognized his character with his blue robe and white hair. It even said "Olaf" above his charackters head.
the exact same thing happend to us once again in stranglethorn vally, once in orgrimmar and durotar and once in desolace. We allready thought it would be creepy and we made stories up why this would happen. we said he might be dead and his soul is trapped within the game and trying to communicate with us... maybe wanting to say goodbye? so we already pissed our pants but as you could imagine he was not dead or whatever, but the real case still gives me the chills.
When school begann again i confronted him about that, told him that i found that very weird and asked why he did not talk to us. i told him he would not have to play with us but a little "hello, how are you guys doing" would have been nice.
he looked me in the face with a confused look that i still dont forget to this day.
"What are you talking about? I was in Greece with my family and arrived yesterday evening back home in Berlin. I didnt have my pc with me or even had internet in our place in greece..." he said.
i know this might sound like a stupid story to you guys but for me this was crazy creepy and still is to this day.

Nice video, IMO, the children of Goldshire do deserve a mention on any list of this kind, everything that happens there is worthy of a decent horror flick. I really liked the bit about the Emerald Nightmare, thanks for the explanation, never really though about what it was, also - Jaina as the Lich Queen? That would be awesome. :D That makes me wonder even more, what is going to happen in the Nightmare raid in Legion...
From all the other things - as it is with most lists of this type, I think that Thaddius deserves a top 5 spot. Those screams can really freak you out when you don't expect them.

Us being evil for killing Vancleef doesn't make Vancleef the good guy. He was the kingpin of a dangerous organization of thieves, bandits, highwaymen, and Pirates under the guise of vigilantes. If that sounds like a good guy to somebody, they have a very interesting interpretation on the word "good."

DD was not invited to the WoD beta so he couldn't create Lore or any kind of WoW content for a long while. That ruined his channel. And now Nobbel is running out of Lore because Blizzard gives him nothing to work with. You can see that even his Q&As are basically void of normal questions. At this point, even the fans are unable to ask anything new. Or they no longer care about WoW as they did years ago. I am not against Nobbel, but if he doesn't start doing something else beside WoW Lore videos, he will run out of audience.
I, for one, have played Warcraft 3 and its World Editor for years and know every dialogue by heart, so Warcraft 3 Let's Plays and Pointless Top 10s will not interest me.
