    I bought this as my first lens to go with a 5D mark II. At face value it is good for the price. For capturing moments it has worked really well, and for posting to sites like Facebook and Instagram, the images are absolutely fine.
    The problem I have now is that I am chasing image quality, which I just can't get from this lens and camera body combo. Without IS I need to up the shutter speed, and therefore the ISO which isn't handled well. There is a lot of chromatic aberration and overall lack of sharpness.
    All that being said, I'm absolutely going to hold on to it. I have taken some stunning images on a tripod with longer exposures and to have 70-300 range from a lightweight lens is great when you just want to capture a moment.

    Seriously considering getting this lens, I’ve watched a guy compare it to a Canon 70-200mm which costs £3000 and he kept complaining about the bokeh the 75-300mm produces, calling it ‘unprofessional’ because it wasn’t as smooth as the bokeh on the £3000 lens but I actually really like the look of the bokeh on the 75-300mm, I like round bokeh and let’s not forget that this lens classifies as a vintage lens which is where the bokeh comes from, some people like vintage bokeh better than others
    Two points I’ll agree about is no IS and Chromatic Aberration being a pain, but chromatic aberration doesn’t seem to be too troubling at narrower apertures (I think it’s manageable and there’s also editing software to fix it if necessary) and I typically use a tripod for shooting, I think it’ll be a nice landscape lens for a reasonable price
    It also looks really sharp, definitely soft compared to the best lenses on a market but it costs almost nothing 🤦‍♂️
    What I realise is that only people who can’t afford the best of the best are the ones who appreciate the cheapest there is to offer

    • @JordanHandwerker
      @JordanHandwerker 2 роки тому +1

      It’s a decent lens and honestly I’ve used it for both photo and video, it’s a decent lens for what it is. At 300mm the compression is good enough that you’ll get the desired results as long as your subject is distanced enough from the background. In all the Image stabilization is the biggest downside I can deal with the Chromatic Aberration in post

    I have invested in some decent glass for overall shooting. The EF 50mm F1.4 USM, RF 24-105 F/4.0L and I'm getting one of these just to try it out. I barely shoot anything above what 24-105 can do, so it wouldn't make too much sense to invest in an L glass for telephoto. This seems like a cheap, but cheerful option for it. And if I don't like it, I guess I can flip it anyway.

      100% I have a plethora of lenses and I originally sold this lens but ended up buying another one off of the FB market place just to have that 75-300 focal range again! I have a Tamron 70-210 f/4 but nothing really in between that so definitely a good option

Went to a wildlife park and the 24-105 just did not do the trick. Somehow randomly managed to dig up a Tamron 55-200. Ended up getting this lens, and what can I say. Every single bit of criticism given about it is valid, but over the top. Chromatic aberration can be somewhat fixed in post, and unless you're pixel-peeping you can't really see it. The autofocus is sluggish and loud, but in a bright day at far distances does the job just fine. And the sharpness.. it's not gonna win any awards but it's not terrible. Image stabilization is the only feature I'm missing, but knowing it only cost me £80 to get, it would be a sin to complain about it.

    • @JordanHandwerker

    Hey Jordan, I was wondering if this lens would be good for action shots like basketball? I saw some comments mentioning sports so I just wanted know what you think?

    • @JordanHandwerker
      @JordanHandwerker 2 роки тому

      Yes and no. Main reason why I say no is the lack of image stabilization, you could use it if you can keep your shutter speed 1/250 or fast and depending on your camera system. If you get a lot of grain/noise past 1600 iso this may not be the best option due to the variable changing Aperture through focal ranges. Worst care scenario is you buy a used one and see if it’s suitable for Sports. If you’re shooting outdoors during the day you could be able to get away with using it but indoors it may suffer

  • @ChrisCooper312
    @ChrisCooper312 2 роки тому +1

    I recently went for this lens as I wanted a cheap telephoto lens for my M series camera that would also work if I upgrade to full frame. Thats what puts me off the 55-250, since it would only be suitable for APS-C, and especially now canon have effectively killed their DSLR and M range, EF-M lenses only seem a good investment if you want the compact size, and EF-S seems a waste of money unless you have an APS-C DSLR.
    From what I've seen so far it's a decent lens, especially for the price. The lack of IS isn't great, but I find that the M50 will produce fairly decent results at higher ISOs, so hand held is reasonable in good light. Only real downside I've found is that it eats my battery.

    • @JordanHandwerker
      @JordanHandwerker 2 роки тому

      Yeah it’s wild Canon makes various lenses for different mounts which I get it, more money from people who want different systems but the EF mount is so popular that they easily could have just made the M50 with an EF attachment, but that would have made the m50 a lot bigger as the EF-M glass as a smaller and closer flange because there’s no need to the mirror. That being said this lens is decent for what it is and most of the color fringing/Chromatic aberration can be fixed in post

Thank you. The 75/300mn is one of two lenses I own right now, I also own the 55mn and that is by far my most used lens. I got the 75mn first but i had difficulties which caused me to purchase the 55 mn. Right now,‘I am looking for other lenses I can buy on budget that can work on an EF camera, I would like to ask if you have any recommendations ??

      I would suggest a 24mm EF or EF-S lens. ( will be a 38mm equivalent on a crop sensor), but will give you a good focal length for a variety of different styles/Shots. Also 8MM fisheye lenses are fun too if you want a quirky lens to play with

    • @JordanHandwerker
      @JordanHandwerker Рік тому

      Depends on what camera you’re using. But because I havent used it for sports ( only drifting photography ) I can say no, mostly because it doesn’t have image stabilization. That being said you’d want to be around 1/250 or faster if you did use it

    I need a lens that can take pics of the moon that isn't too pricey. What would be the best?

    • @JordanHandwerker
      @JordanHandwerker 2 роки тому

      What are you shooting on? Full frame or APs-C? This lens would work but you’ll want to stop the Aperture down around f/8 to sharpen the moon up a bit

      @@JordanHandwerker Thanks for getting back. I just bought the Canon Rebel T7.. it just came with the 18-55mm lens. I'm really just learning.. and this Canon 75-300mm seem like a decent option for a complete beginner to shoot the moon.. and birds i want to mostly photograph

    • @JordanHandwerker
      @JordanHandwerker 2 роки тому +1

      Definitely is a great starter option! You can’t go wrong with it, it does have a little bit of purple color fringing on highlighted areas but you can easily remove it from the image in post processing! Happy snapping

      Hmmm is it old? I’m almost 99% sure any kit lens ( 18-55mm) that came out in the last 6 years should have image stabilization

    • @charlessands6933
      @charlessands6933 3 роки тому

      @@JordanHandwerker: No. I bought this camera (Canon EOS 2000D) in January of this year, 2021. The model number on it is the European number of the USAs EOS Rebel T7. Although I AM in the United States, it was about $75 less to buy the European name-plated one.

    • @JordanHandwerker
      @JordanHandwerker 3 роки тому +1

      @@charlessands6933 hmm that’s interesting, well I know it sounds counterintuitive but you can buy a used kit lens fairly inexpensive just about anywhere, most of them sell for about $50 or so maybe a little north depending.
      But that’s only if you want the Image Stability

    Hey Jordan! I recently used this lens on a family trip up to Waupaca, WI, and saw an eagle family hanging around and saw a juvenile eagle diving down catching a massive pike and flew above us and I managed to take these two great pictures! ua-cam.com/video/C5QlRDK4iss/v-deo.html

      Chromatic aberration and color fringing yes. As far as soft, I wouldn’t say it’s terrible, I’ve gotten some pretty solid photos with it myself. Plus most people get it when they buy a camera bundle
