The LAN connection minimizes connection based lag and buffering within the connection to the host server between players, with the server acting as a medium between the two players’ connections. (I’m a network engineer) This established LAN connection however cannot mitigate the additional input lag due to the net code of the game being based upon buffered inputs. The major issue with online is not necessarily the internet lag, but input lag based upon how the game itself runs in relation to the server. Even with a LAN connection on both ends, the game will take MUCH longer to make an input from your controller actually happen on screen. This severely impacts the game, to the point where reactionary based inputs are rendered far less valid as if the game were being played offline. I believe it is about 15 frames of lag just for your input to be received and processed by the server, while in other games with rollback netcode, the input lag is 1-3 frames even online. Furthermore, you obviously have not played this game at a high level offline, if you don’t know how different and inferior/invalid online results are in comparison to offline results. Everything is slowed down significantly online, meaning less skilled players can win just because an input by the better player just doesn’t come out. This literally changes the tier list and viability of characters significantly. A great example of this would be Ganondorf. Offline, worst chatacter in the entire game by far. Online though, you can just mash moves on someone’s shield and they cannot physically punish you due to how the game operates, jumping Ganon all the way to the lower end of mid tier. At least be educated on a topic you’re going to leave a comment on, bro.
