Come along with us on this low level simple hike we did on Pico Island, in the coastal vineyard village of Sao Mateus. We were joined by our special guests, Glenn & Margaret from Canada.
This video will give you a good idea on how these unmarked lower level hikes are easily accessible by most, the key is to take your time and enjoy. We believe that these Portuguese North Atlantic Islands have a unique variety of hiking & walking trails.
You can find hikes with various degrees of difficulty throughout the Azores. We enjoy finding hidden gems around where we live and surrounding areas. On Pico, you can choose to do one of these simple coastal or highland walks or go extreme and climb the Pico volcano.
You can find numerous hikes & walks on all 9 islands, from the biggest to the smallest. Choose marked or unmarked trails, it's up to you and what you are able to handle. You can either hike alone or with a organized small group.

Thank you for sharing this hike and for the brief glimpse of our house when you zoom in to Sao Mateus. We were impatiently waiting for September, when we could finally be back on Pico. And for a tuna sandwich and a delicious hambuger at Sonja and Fernando in O'Galeao.

When you go on hikes, can it get pretty buggy in places on Pico? Do you have to deal with many bugs?
