Watching the earth change is fascinating. Just imagine how far out that cliff went 100 years ago, or a 1000 years ago.
I bet it was far out, man.
Yea, and yet we are led to believe that mankind is responsible for this, even though the plant has been changing throughout history.
@Bronski Turboski blah blah bullshit. Thats nature dumb ass
@@steveeyre6975
climate change is helping destroying it faster because of Rising sea levels
(Not by alot, but not by none)
There are photographs from many decades ago, posted near the National Trust building i recall. It's quite remarkable the retreat in only that time. A lighthouse nearby has been put on rails, to facilitate moving it back from the cliff periodically as the cliff erodes away over the years.
Those cliffs on the southeast shore of England were once joined to the cliffs on the north shore of France at Calais. The land bridge held back glacial waters.
It was dry land between Northern Germany and Scotland/ England.
Interesting!
Climate change
@@morganwright224 Right. Climate change that has been going on for millions of years.
I live near the Birling gap. It's always incredible to see people so close to the edge. Even more incredible when you see people sitting and having picnics directly below the cliffs !
People aren't very bright. Some of them even buy condos on Miami Beach, which is prone to sinkholes and hurricanes.
Well. They’re edioats.
@@davidlafleche1142 yes it’s contagious …the dullness
Some beachgoers were killed not long ago in California after a cliff gave way. They wee Sunning themselves too close to the cliff.

Reminder these cliffs are literally made of loosely compressed chalk.
I guess we’ll chalk it up to the weather(ing)
and yet ppl build their homes on these cliffs.
@@emmapeel8163 Most didn't know or have any comprehension of the organic make-up of the cliff's land 400 to 600 hundred years ago. They were illiterate farmers scratching out a living between wars and kings fighting over land. They were not geologists by training as I am. Cut them some slack.
And you can clearly see where the next section of cliff is detaching from.
I see the crack now! So there are no old beachcombers in Eastbourne.
If I were there and that happened, I'd be running in the opposite direction from the fall, grabbing on to the rest of England for dear life.
0:11 that laugh
hahahahaha
England just got smaller
maria cornwallis I once applied for planning permission to build a small carpet cleaning business on that exact bit of cliff top. Now I'm glad they turned me down!

...and thereby the population density has increased. .... In my lifetime of sixty years, the population of this country has doubled - world population has increased by a factor of 3.7.... why can't we house immigrants on the cliff edge ?????
@@thakery5720 Because genocide is illegal?
I would have moved had I been one of the people near that edge. You never know how much of that edge is going to go.
And they continue to sit there.
Joe Schlotthauer As noisy as it is there, I seriously doubt they heard it. And from where they are sitting they could not see it happening.
Well, the chalk isn't likely to collapse that far in without being undermined... But also yeeeeeaaaaaaaah
Aren’t they flying a kite?
It is said they are there to this day.

Where I live the cliffs are kind enough to leave large rocks in places just to remind you what might fall on you
From one day to the next you never know how much land you have near a cliff edge. In many areas of the coastal U.S. it is hard to find property insurance.
I’m buying up coastal properties in Arkansas.
@@martinphilip8998 Why?
@@saintadolf5639 For the new projected shoreline. Little Rock could become a great port city.
@@saintadolf5639 ocean levels are rising 3ml per year.
@@martinphilip8998 - I’m buying oceanfront property in Arizona. I’m getting in early, before California falls in the ocean after the ‘big one”.
And within seconds of falling, the sea is forever washing it away.
That entire thing could just drop. What’s wrong with those people?
It's out of thier *zone of attention* It isn't happening now, so it's going to be ok. You'd be amazed how many people have utterly faulty reasoning like *it didn't happen last time, so it won't happen this time* Soooo many people don't think they need to learn anything new at all. That *school was for learning a bit and now I'm an adult so I don't have to.* Just look at the numbers of flat earth fools and anti vaccination morons. It's frightening. These people are frightening.....
Wherever you are sitting right now, the same could happen.

One of the things I love about the UK is its *ancient geology!* Rocks and fossils from hundreds of millions of years ago!
I'm in New Zealand - a very geologically-young country - and we have very few fossils of ammonites and trilobites.
The UK, however, would surely have loads of them due to the huge amount of ancient rock there.
The Bahamas has soo many trilobites hardened to the wall of tide pools
Let's make a deal right here right now. You get our ancient geology, but in exchange we get New Zealand's amazing nature (mountains, forests, waterfalls etc). Deal?
This happened 8 years ago. I wonder how different it looks now!
Higher quality video probably if recorded now.

england doesn't exist anymore haha lol
I'm always amazed at how people scream and laugh at this kind of event. If anything, I think I would be in awe of the magnitude of it. The forces of nature are powerful and sometimes frightening, but these people are a long way from the cliff. Nothing to fear.
I'd be more fearful of that high-rise in San Francisco that's tilting.
I think screaming and laughing is the manifestation of a sense of awe for these people. Just because you would be awed in a different way doesn’t mean that these people weren’t feeling the same emotion
A friend of mine lost his father when he was just three years old when he was tilling a friends field with his tractor and the cliff gave way…
My left ear feels left out

i keep seeing these videos. is it a thing to set up a camera along the coast and wait forever for part of it to fall?
Cameras and sensors are placed many places, in fact, cameras are ALL OVER today, on light-posts, in crime areas, around stores, in parking lots, and yes, they are even set up in areas they deem dangerous BUT, there are usually signs telling you to keep away from those places, but humans being like they are, often ignore danger signs. (And sometimes, it costs them their lives!)

I can imagine it is much harder to invade England in places where there are 50 meter cliff edges
just poke it until it all falls lool
Goes to show how powerful water really is. It may take it awhile to do its thing but destroying rock is pretty incredible.
Yeah, ocean is a lot of water.
Think of that next time your on the edge. Like the inventor of the Segway, when he stopped at the edge and it did this.
you're (you are, as in you're welcome!)
In the background can be seen another part of the cliff that fell previously.
Its funny until the people fall over the cliff with it.
Then it's hilarious.
That would go viral for sure.
It's still funny, unless you're one of them!
Several people die every year there, altough most of them are suicides
Why are they laughing for ? stupid people its not funny be amazed & suprised shocked even but dummy laugh - stupid.
Time to re:draw the map.
There’s a kind of symbolic metaphor for the British Isles in this incredible video.
Is that an old building on the left side of the picture?
Coastline: *Existing for millions of years*
Ocean: 'and I took that personally'
Will no one think of the little grass critters and worms ??
How do those people know that a 100 foot section of the cliff won't give way and take them with it? No way in Hell I'd be standing there.
A few animals were harmed in the filming of this video, a seagull and a crab, but he wouldn't have known much about it. A limpet survived and is doing alright.

There is a building in the foreground which is very close to the cliff edge.

Britain literally shrunk a little bit that day!

Accidentally loosing your footing and falling off isn't the only danger of getting too close to the edge. Not just the erosion below but also your moving mass above can send you down.

A very pleasing cliff collapse!
What the hell is pleasing by watching the decline of our coastal areas ?
It's nature. It's called erosion and it's being going on for billions of years. It's never going to stop. Ever. What's pleasing is that it was filmed well.
Yes, very artistic and tasteful. A nice tidy release, maintaining a shapely column as the perfectly white chalk fell to a most pleasing regular pyramid.
This will eventually become a beach.
Very white rock
