im wondering why you dont benchpress all the way down or why the dumbbell flies are not all the way down? i usually do it all the way and really stretching the muscle and it makes it alot harder to push the weight back up but i feel my chest workouts are better when im really stretching the muscle. im only wondering. or if anyone else can explain.
the eccentric part of any movement (ex. in benchpress when the weight goes Down) is the most hypertrophic part of the lift. This is where you gain the most amount of muscle. That is why scientific bodybuilders focus on slowing down & controlling the eccentric part of every rep, including the stretch at the bottom. This is where most muscle fibers are broken. To me, this also feels the best. Go watch some videos of Dr. Mike - his youtube channel is called Renaissance Periodization. So your chest workouts are better when youre really stretching the muscle ;) Side note: When you're on steroids, it is common to put on more muscle than your muscle tendons can actually handle (withing a short period of time). For this reason, many bodybuilders are extra careful in the stretched part of the lift where the muscle tendons are under the most stress. So thats probably why they're not going all the way down.
