Hasn't driven an F1 car almost a year with very little prep time, qualified third and finishes in the points, stayed ahead of team mate until "tire issues" pitted him: I say pretty good showing for the Hulk.
That pit stop was heart breaking. He didn't even get fastest lap on the softs.

It's nowhere near a second slower during the race. Only in qualifying, and time difference in qualifying doesn't matter, only relative position. Good for Mercedes that they've got a car that can go hyperspeed for one lap and then destroys its tyres, but that doesn't help much during the race.

@@bananatree2527 its a second slower in the race too. You can clearly see it in every race so far. The Mercedes is GONE in the first few laps and then they just manage their engine and tyres. Silverstone was difficult for them. Hope we can see more races like the last one on Silverstone.

@@yophono5929 + people can't see that on race day he's much better than gasly, the reason why he took so long to overtake him was because of his tyre management while forcing gasly to destroy his and he overtook him with ease later on to secure a p5 with a damn good pace, he literally destroyed stroll with similar tyres.

But seriously how did he keep his tyres together for that long? No blistering whatsoever after 30 laps or so?! Mercs had shredded the tyre after about 7 laps. Insane
Driving clean + Downforce is the short answer.
The more downforce you have the more pressure will be on your chassis / suspension / tyres.
If you have good racecraft you can drive gentle over a circuit even with these speeds to stop tyre degredation with a few %
There was no driver who could manage his tyres as Verstappen back in 2016 i believe it was when rules were diffrent.
He was very impressive even when the lad was a fresh rookie.

Those commentators have never seen that F1 uses tire warmers ? They are at temperature when they go under the car !
Yeah in romania commentators said the exact same thing and after 3 turns they changed their mind
Although true they use tyre warmers, as far as I know, it’s not up to the optimal window.
It’s advisable to nurse them unless you have a lot of confidence on your driving abilities, which is exactly the point of the commentator about Max’s skills.
i once was watching the fp2 i think in austria this year and albon spun, but the commentators were talking about a random music house that was needing money (also in South America)
@@martijnvv8031 before 2019 the tires came out of the warmers at 100°C. Since the 2019 season they come out at 80°C due to changes in the rules. Optimal working range is around 95°C for hypersofts and goes up to 135°C for superhards.
For most of the tyres now used in F1 the range sits between 100 and 120°C.
80°C might seem close to optimal temps, but is far from optimum grip.
Watching Max evolve is like watching a champion in the making. Can't wait for him to finally be in a car capable of racing for the Title

@@joe5632 He was alongside the 'slowest car' going into copse so something tells me that Red Bull isn't as quick as everyone thinks. Takes a lot of balls to keep your foot down going into copse with a car on your inside. Something half the grid would not of done without causing a crash.
He is great at overtaking and pulling out charges through the field, but his consistency needs a mega bump if he is to remain at red bull...let alone competing with max who is in a whole different ballpark

I love Hamilton as I’m British and he is definitely our best driver since mansell but my favourite driver has to be max verstappen. What a driver he is in wet or dry conditions, always hungry for the race and has come on so far mentally in the last two seasons, definitely future world champion many times over for that young man, great race max, well deserved win and well done to red bull 👍🏻

That was back when Ferrari was a threat. Their only other threat was Max and he was ahead.
If that was true then please explain austin 2019 (it would have been better for them to have their champion win the championship in style) :). Mercedes use team orders when it is needed to get the most points for the team, and are helping Hamilton only when he is well ahead of Bottas in the standings and they are fighting another team for the championship. If you want to see strange strategy decisions and team orders however, you have to look no further than Ferrari (especially a few years ago).

Loved every second of this race, so much going on, Alex with his sick overtakes, the battle for the lead, Mercedes tyres burning up, Charles getting 4th place in a weak Ferrari and ofc Max taking the win in a dominant way, this race had everything i love to see in a race.
W 11 was the faster car ..the fastest car in history.. verstappen really impressed me in this race

Ferrari continues to be poor, Leclare was too good to manage a one stop today. This guy just drove the red tractor to P4, while other guy took the tractor to some farm work. Bad luck Seb..
let s hope so...RB seem to have more reliable cars, less problematic, drivers as well. leclerc has been doing rather great, but vettel has been losing his mojo, passion, desire...all that is necessary to make him channel the desperation into something positive. mentally, he s not well

Ferrari in no way stepped up their game. They are still slow. Leclerc a good qualifier which means he doesn't have to deal with dirty air as much. But seeing Vettel basically being stuck in traffic, compared to Albon being able to overtake, just shows that their car really doesn't work aerodynamically. You also can't really put that fact on Vettel as he is, as long as he doesn't spin, still fast, not the fastest but not slow either

@@thomy1955 In terms of Engineering, it is Pirelli's weak tires that can't handle the speed of Mercedes. Using an extreme example, it is basically putting Jet engine on antique wooden tires. It is not the jet engine that is slow, it is the old broken tires that are trash. But, well, apparently, "don't be fast, because it makes the rest looks bad" is the trend

Let’s take a moment to appreciate that Albon was almost a minute down behind the leader but finished
He has actually made that ridiculous strategy work. He has shown that couple of times this season that even if he drops to 20-30 seconds behind the leaders in the early part of the race, he will somehow finish P5-P7 on average which shows he has got the talent but needs a little bit of polishing.
He seriously needs to pick up his qualifying pace. He can bring redbull double podiums every weekend with such race pace.
