What image type should you use for the best balance of performance and quality?

would love JXL, but ofc google's browser monopoly w/ chromium had to kill support for it because google likes killing anything prematurely... it's only firefox, safari, other non-chromium browsers, etc... that support it. :(

JPEG XL stands out in terms of quality preservation. I have tried to upload photo on fb using Firefox or waterfox and the result was good.
