What a great video! My heart is so happy that many Christians are waking up and going the more traditional route! It will be my first year celebrating Hanukkah and I'm very excited! I'm starting a new tradition in my family, leaving the paganistic Christmas behind! God bless, and thank you for the vid.

Thank you for sharing about Hanukkah. I am a Gentile and have had the scales removed from my eyes. The Lord has awoken my spirit and caused me to embrace my Jewish roots . I’ve stopped worshiping the Lord on Sunday and now I am keeping His command to worship Him on the Sabbath. I’m in love with the Jewish people, especially the Messianic Jews. Im interested in learning all that I can about the appointed feasts, holidays. I didn’t understand about Hanukkah and have been researching- I haven’t celebrated Christmas in several years as my eyes have been opened. Thank you for educating me regarding this holiday. Im a new subscriber. Yay!!! God bless you and family!

The light of Jesus, the Master, He gives light to all those who follow after Him. I am a Christian that celebrates Hanukkah since ceasing from celebrating christmas, I keep it simple and as you say a time of refection and re dedication. Much nicer and more meaningful than the pagan festivals.

New to torah observants. Trying to understand it all. I've never seen anything make fellow believers so mad as even considering keeping the feast...
I celebrated passover this year and was delivered in a big way from tobacco so I know there is power In it! Apart from that I have a shabbat meal every fri night with my 4 kids but I haven't gotten the nerve to put my foot down at work on not working sat yet but will see but me and the kids have gotten closer with the shabbat meal. (Singal dad) )
Some days I'm sure the lords feast are the right way and other times the other side is convincing. I'm solo.maybe I can find a fellowship in North Central fl.basicly just learning from UA-cam. Thanks for your teaching!

Thank you for this viewpoint, David. Hanukkah is one of the many things that has been confusing to me, and I have gone back and forth about whether or not I should observe it. Last night, I did decide to take out my Hanukkiah and light it, reflecting on the faith and courage of the Maccabees. I pray that if the time comes where I must stand in the face of persecution and death, I will not deny Yeshua or compromise His commandments. That is one of my reasons for remembering this time, as an inward check, such as you mentioned. Shalom!

It is very important to remember to NOT allow tradition to become command. So while these games and such are tradition, they are certainly not a requirement as this is not a moedim. Also also to remember that the miracle of oil is not based on fact.

Correct. Nobody says we're commanded to celebrate Hanukkah, just like nobody says Americans are commanded to celebrate Independence Day. However, Hanukkah a memorial of a significant event in the lives of God's people that is worth remembering and celebrating, just like Independence Day is worth remembering and celebrating for Americans.

Whatever is not commanded to celebrate by Him is not on the menu of my life. I do not subscribe to a belief it is important to celebrate it because it’s a part of history. Sorry I disagree with you on that belief. Shalom!

Hi David, great video! going to try and celebrate this year appreciate the info! I just want to know I often see people say that in Maccabees they offer the sacrifices to Zeus but I don’t see that anywhere in 1st or 2nd Maccabees. I see in 2nd Mac ch.6:2 they call the sanctuary by the name of Jupiter Olympius. Is that a reference to Zeus?

For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected.
    1Timothy 4:4
O Lord, how can I be more amazed than by seeing you use everything for your good? At the times, when I think things are not going right or when others trouble me with their problems, still you are involved, moving my life toward the goal you have set before me. Help me, I pray, to be more trusting. Amen.
Faith offers a new way of life, where everything can be used for good. Like a tilting Kaleidoscope, our days are arranged with different priorities. It's amazing how little the dusty table top matters when close friends come to call.
Personal note: Can you pray for my sister Vicki, Covid hurt her badly. And she is in the hospital.

John 10;22-23 Not for nothing just because Yahushua walked through this colonnade does not mean He was celebrating Hanukkah , that would be like saying because I walked through the parking lot of a church having a Halloween tailgate /trunk trick or treat party, that I was celebrating it ! Which is NOT the case! Yahushua said all matters are established by two or three witnesses , do you have a second or third witness of scripture ? Matthew:18:16 . The Colonnade was a thoroughfare which people walked through and gathered, outside the temple. Solomon's Porch, Portico or Colonnade (στοα του Σολομωντος; John 10:23; Acts 3:11; 5:12), was a colonnade, or cloister, located on the eastern side of the Temple's Outer Court (Women's Court) in Jerusalem, named after Solomon, King of Israel. Hunukkah is a civil holiday and not a CommandedFeast of Yahuah and lets replace the g-d with His Name and stop breaking the the third commandment. If one wishes to celebrate it that is fine but lets not make it out to be something its not. Shalom

I'm not Jewish myself, but my faith practice is very similar to what is called Messianic Judaism today. The original Christian movement was essentially a sect of Judaism, and non-Jews were joining that sect without having to become Jews themselves. As Gentiles, they were fully part of community of Messiah followers, kept the Sabbath and festivals, abstained from unclean animals, etc.

I just see it this way, no temple, no Feast of Dedication. We are not sure how Jesus observed it. The Nativity of Christ is what we should focus on. This idea of the 7 lights lasting 8 nights is a Jewish myth that came after the destruction of the second temple. The Feast of Dedication was originally 8 days of sacrifices to God in honor of the original 8 days of sacrifice to rededicate the temple. I am not saying you should be rude to those that do observe Hunnakuh, but as an Orthodox Christian, I will focus on Christmas.

  • @leroyb5561

We aren't supposed to celebrate it. 1 Kings 13:33-34 Even after this, Jeroboam did not change his evil ways, but once more appointed priests for the high places from all sorts of people. Anyone who wanted to become a priest he consecrated for the high places. 34 This was the sin of the house of Jeroboam that led to its downfall and to its destruction from the face of the earth.
Anyone know any Maccabees? Almost like they appointed themselves wrongfully to the high priesthood and the oil running out from Ezra was a sign of pending annihilation...sounds about right for these idiots to miss the point and celebrate something they should mourn.

I'm not saying its wrong or right but Many believe Yeshsua did not celebrate this holiday like Nick Vanderlaan who makes a convincing arguement in his video, , Jesus did NOT celebrate Hanukkah, 2nd Temple Dedication, & Wedding Feast at Cana, But RL Solberg uses this to teach there's nothing wrong with celebrating non biblical holidays because Yeshsua celebrated this, But that doesn't make any sense after He said. Mark 7:13 “Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.” Then celebrate a tradition of the Jews.
