  • RTSP Streaming Inputs with OBS + PTZ Camera Controls
Learn how to set up RTSP camera streams inside OBS (Open Broadcaster Software) in this short 5-minute video. This is the easiest way for many people to use IP cameras with OBS. Using just a single Ethernet cable, you can stream video directly into your OBS software using the Media Source input selection. The Media Source selection for inputs in OBS is usually known for playing out local media files but it can also be used for ingestion of live video streams coming from your LAN (local area network).
Once you have clicked the plus button in your OBS scene to bring in a "Media Source" you can name the source. If you are using multiple RTSP camera streams I highly recommend using a name you can remember and consider adding the IP address to the name. Since you need your IP camera's IP Address to pull an RTSP stream from the device it's a nice time saver for the future. In fact, many times when you are dealing with multiple cameras it is handy to have the static IP addresses set up in sequential order. When you open up the properties for your OSB media source input you can uncheck all the default boxes that are set up for local media. You want to use the "input" field to type in your RTSP video feed information which is usually done with "RTSP://" and then the IP address of your camera followed by the RTSP stream number. For PTZOptics cameras this would be "/1" for the high definition stream and "/2" for the standard definition stream. Therefore we used our camera's IP address which was 192.168.1.60 like this "rtsp://192.168.1.60/1" to pull in the full 1920x1080p 60fps RTSP stream.
When it comes to optimizing your RTSP settings for OBS I will refer to our latest article on the subject here. As you know from the video the PTZOptics cameras are capable of producing two simultaneous RTSP video feeds (one high definition and one low definition) that can be set up to work perfectly with OBS. For this video, we have the RTSP settings using h.264 video encoding with a resolution of 1920x1080p. The bit rate is set to 12,288 which allows us to use a frame rate of 60 frames per second with high-quality video. We are using an I keyframe interval of 120 with CBR (Constant Bit Rate) enabled.
Learn how to optimize your RTSP Settings for PTZOptics Cameras here - • Optimized Streaming Se...
We have a picture in picture setup shown with OBS to share how quickly and easily we can take control of multiple cameras inside OBS. We can also connect to the PTZOptics cameras using the static IP address for pan, tilt, and zoom controls. The PTZOptics OBS PTZ camera controller is available for download on the OBS forums here. The PTZ Camera controller includes the ability to control up to 8 unique PTZ cameras inside OBS and call camera preset positions easily within the live streaming software. We demonstrate control in this video briefly but also have a link to this video for more information.
One important factor to consider with RTSP video streaming is latency when paired with an additional audio source. You can ingest audio into your RTSP streaming h.264 encodings directly in the camera using the 3.5mm audio input. If you do this there will be no need to delay your audio inputs in OBS. But if you are trying to match the audio from your mixer with the video coming from the RTSP stream on your network there may need to be a slight delay added. You can do this in the Advanced Audio Properties in OBS. OBS has an audio setting called "Sync Offset" which is controlled in ms (milliseconds). You can offset or delay your incoming audio in order to sync up your RTSP video that may be coming in anywhere from 100 to 1,500 milliseconds late when compared to your audio. Start trying to delay your audio by just 250ms. If that works you should be just fine using CBR (Constant Bit Rate) as your network will do its best to deliver a healthy video stream consistently. But, you may need to add additional delay to match up to your RTSP video stream up to 1-2 seconds. When doing this remember that the

I believe video over a LAN has more delay than video over SDI. What is the recommended audio delay to sync audio and video? I have 500 ms max on my mixer.

    • @PTZOptics

RTSP can add more latency than 500ms. It depends on your network. SDI will be much less. With SDI we are talking about 50-60ms.

Thanks. Are you talking about the $600 licenses that are sold online at stores such as Adorama & B&H? (See link below for example.) If so, is that $600 PER camera? If so, what benefits are gained by doing so? For those of us new to concept of IP over ethernet and particularly NDI, more info is needed. There is much confusion. The above video seems to show the only difference between generic IP over ethernet and NDI being 2 seconds between i-frames v. 1 second between i-frames, thus reducing bandwidth needs, while increasing risk of artifacts, yet that risk is somehow mitigated by use of NDI, and yet that mitigation method was not explained in the video.

is it runs 30fps and the audio is sync? thanks

    • @PTZOptics
      @PTZOptics  5 місяців тому +1

      Hello!
Streaming RTSP feeds from PTZOptics cameras into OBS (Open Broadcaster Software) can indeed support 30fps (frames per second) and synchronized audio, but the actual performance and synchronization can depend on several factors:
      Camera Configuration
Frame Rate: Ensure the PTZOptics camera is configured to stream at 30fps. This setting is typically adjustable in the camera's web interface.
Resolution and Bitrate: The resolution and bitrate settings on the camera can also affect the stream's performance. Higher resolutions and bitrates offer better quality but require more bandwidth and processing power, which could impact performance on the receiving end.
      Network Conditions
Bandwidth: RTSP streams, especially high-definition video at 30fps, require a stable and sufficient network bandwidth to transmit smoothly without packet loss or delays.
Latency: Network latency can affect the synchronization between audio and video. A wired network connection is recommended for stability and to minimize latency.
      OBS Configuration
Source Settings: When adding the RTSP feed as a media source in OBS, ensure you have the correct URL and that the "Use hardware decoding when available" option is selected, which can help with performance.
Sync Offset: If you notice an audio sync issue, OBS allows you to adjust the audio sync offset for each source. You can manually adjust the timing to synchronize the audio with the video.
      Performance Considerations
Hardware: The performance of your computer can impact the ability to stream and record video at 30fps. Ensure your hardware (CPU, GPU, and RAM) is sufficient to handle the processing load.
Software Settings: Other OBS settings, like the output resolution, frame rate, and encoding options, should be configured to match your streaming goals without overloading your system.
      Testing and Adjustments
Testing: It’s crucial to test your setup before going live to ensure the video streams at the desired frame rate and the audio is in sync. Monitoring the stream on a separate device can help identify any issues.
Adjustments: Depending on your test results, you may need to adjust camera settings, OBS source properties, and network configurations to optimize performance and synchronization.
In summary, while PTZOptics cameras are capable of streaming RTSP feeds at 30fps with synchronized audio in OBS, achieving optimal results requires proper configuration of the camera, OBS, and ensuring that your network and computer hardware are up to the task. If issues arise, adjusting settings and testing different configurations will be key to finding the best setup for your streaming needs.

      Hello!
It sounds like you're experiencing an issue where your PTZOptics camera's RTSP stream is visible in the "Properties for Media Source" window in OBS but does not show up in the main preview window after setting everything up. This can be frustrating, but there are a few common solutions to try that can resolve this issue:
Check Your Network Connection: Ensure that your PTZOptics camera and the computer running OBS are on the same network and that the network allows for the necessary communication between devices. Some networks have restrictions that might prevent RTSP streams from being properly transmitted.
Verify RTSP URL Format: Double-check the RTSP URL you are using. For PTZOptics cameras, the format is usually rtsp://[camera IP address]/1 (for high definition stream) or rtsp://[camera IP address]/2 (for standard definition stream). Make sure there are no typos in the IP address or the URL format.
Firewall and Antivirus Settings: Sometimes, firewall or antivirus software on your computer can block the stream. Ensure OBS is allowed through your firewall and that your antivirus is not interfering with the stream.
Update OBS and Camera Firmware: Ensure that both OBS and your PTZOptics camera firmware are up to date. Outdated software can sometimes cause compatibility issues.
Use VLC to Test RTSP Stream: To check if the issue is with OBS or the camera stream itself, try opening the RTSP stream in VLC Media Player. If it works in VLC but not in OBS, the issue is likely with OBS settings. If it does not work in VLC, there might be an issue with the camera or network settings.
Re-add the Media Source in OBS: Remove the media source that's not working and add it again. This can sometimes resolve the issue.
Adjust OBS's Hardware Acceleration Settings: In OBS, go to Settings > Advanced and look for hardware acceleration options. Experiment with enabling or disabling these settings to see if there's an impact on your stream visibility.
OBS Studio vs. OBS Classic: If you are using OBS Classic, consider switching to OBS Studio if possible. OBS Studio is more up-to-date and might handle RTSP streams better.
If after trying these steps, you're still experiencing issues, it might be helpful to consult the PTZOptics Knowledge Base for more detailed information or reach out to their technical support team directly. They might have additional insights specific to your model and setup scenario.

how can i connect dvr to obs? i cant connect it with rtsp! but i see my dvr screen in internet explorer

    • @PTZOptics
      @PTZOptics  6 місяців тому

      Hello!
Connecting a DVR (Digital Video Recorder) to OBS (Open Broadcaster Software) for streaming or recording purposes usually involves capturing the video feed from the DVR and inputting it into OBS. If you're able to see your DVR screen in Internet Explorer, it suggests that your DVR is accessible over the network and potentially capable of streaming video using protocols such as RTSP (Real-Time Streaming Protocol). However, if direct RTSP streaming to OBS is not working or not supported by your DVR, there are alternative methods to achieve this connection.
Understanding the Challenge with RTSP and DVRs
RTSP Support: Not all DVRs may support RTSP streaming in a manner that OBS can directly connect to. The DVR's RTSP stream needs to be properly configured, and OBS needs the correct URL to connect to it.
Network Configuration: Ensuring the DVR is correctly configured on your network and that any necessary ports are forwarded or accessible within your local network is crucial.
Alternative Methods to Connect DVR to OBS
      Web Browser Source in OBS:
Since you mentioned being able to view the DVR screen in Internet Explorer, one workaround is using the Browser source option in OBS to capture the web interface of your DVR.
In OBS, add a new source by choosing "Browser" and enter the URL you use to view the DVR in Internet Explorer. Adjust the size and crop as needed to display just the video feed.
      Capture Card:
If your DVR has an HDMI or composite video out, you can use a capture card or video capture device to connect the DVR's video output directly to your computer.
Connect the DVR's output to the capture card, then add the capture card as a source in OBS. This method provides high-quality video input into OBS.
      Software Solutions:
Use software that can receive the RTSP stream from the DVR and then either display it as a virtual webcam or re-stream it in a format that OBS can capture.
Tools like VLC Media Player can open RTSP streams and re-stream them, but setting this up requires some configuration.
      Direct RTSP Stream URL:
If your DVR supports RTSP but you're having trouble connecting, ensure you have the correct RTSP URL format, which typically looks like rtsp://[USERNAME]:[PASSWORD]@[IP_ADDRESS]:[PORT]/[PATH]. You might need to consult your DVR's documentation or support to get the exact URL.
In OBS, you would add this as a "Media Source" and input the RTSP stream URL.
      Check for Software/Firmware Updates:
Ensure both your DVR and OBS are up to date. Sometimes, compatibility issues are resolved in software or firmware updates.
      Additional Tips
      - Check DVR Documentation: Your DVR’s user manual or online support might have specific instructions or the RTSP URL format you need.
      - Network Security: Be mindful of security implications when exposing your DVR to the network, especially if configuring port forwarding for external access.
      - Given the variety of DVR models and configurations, if these general tips don't resolve your issue, you might need specific guidance based on your DVR's make and model. If you provide the model of your DVR, I can offer more tailored advice or check if there's related information in the documents provided.

I am having trouble getting the stream. When I pick up the stream from VLC player it asks for username and password. When I try through OBS... I just get nothing and a black screen. Any ideas?

how connect a phone with android?

    • @PTZOptics
      @PTZOptics  5 місяців тому

      Hello!
To stream video from an Android phone to OBS (Open Broadcaster Software) using RTSP (Real-Time Streaming Protocol), you can follow a multi-step process. This involves setting up your Android phone as an RTSP server, which then can be connected to OBS as a media source.
Here’s a general outline of how to do it:
      1. Install an RTSP Server App on Your Android Phone
First, you need an app that can turn your Android device into an RTSP server. There are several apps available on the Google Play Store for this purpose, such as "IP Webcam" or "LiveDroid". Download and install one of these apps on your Android device.
      2. Configure the RTSP Server App
Open the app and go through the settings to configure your stream. This typically involves setting the video source (camera), audio source (microphone), and stream quality settings. Look for the RTSP server section within the app and make sure it’s enabled. The app should provide you with an RTSP URL (e.g., rtsp://[Your_IP_Address]:[Port]/[Path]). Make sure to note this URL, as you will need it to connect OBS to your phone.
      3. Connect Your Phone and Computer to the Same Network
Ensure that both your Android device and your computer are connected to the same network. This is crucial for OBS to be able to access the RTSP stream from your phone.
      4. Set Up OBS to Receive the RTSP Stream
Now, open OBS on your computer and do the following to add your Android device’s video feed:
Click on the “+” icon in the “Sources” box at the bottom of the OBS window.
Select “Media Source” from the list of sources.
In the window that opens, uncheck “Local File” to enable streaming from a network source.
In the “Input” field, enter the RTSP URL provided by the server app on your Android phone.
Click “OK” to add the source. OBS will now attempt to connect to the RTSP stream from your Android phone.
      5. Start Streaming
With the RTSP stream from your Android phone now added to OBS, you can include it in your scenes and start streaming or recording as per your requirements.
      Troubleshooting Tips
If you encounter connectivity issues, double-check the RTSP URL and ensure there are no typos.
Make sure your firewall or antivirus software on your computer is not blocking OBS or the RTSP stream.
Ensure the RTSP server app on your Android phone is not being restricted by battery optimization settings that may affect its operation in the background.
By following these steps, you should be able to successfully stream video from your Android phone to OBS using RTSP.

How do you add username and password for an RTSP stream, please?

    • @StreamGeeks
      @StreamGeeks 3 роки тому

You should not need to add the user name and password. Just the RTSP string as shown in the video

@@StreamGeeks Thanks, but the camera's stream requires authentication.
I ended up finding a workaround which is to do the RTSP stream in VLC and use OBS's VLS Input source.
