    Hello, I graduated with accounting degree as well and I hate my current staff accountant job so much. I almost cry myself on my way to work. The job is just so draining. I always wanted to start my bookkeeping business but I’m so scared I fail. But I have a feeling that I’ll be so much better mentally if I do that. I just started this job like a week ago and already hate it. Idk where to start and how to get clients. I’m also afraid I mess up their books. All I know is that I don’t wanna be working for any firm or any 9-5 job in general. I really feel like I’ll be great as a bookkeeper.

      I’m in a similar situation, but I’m in an AP position. I’m nervous to start the bookkeeping business, but it feels like it’s now or never. I don’t want to look back later in life with regrets that I didn’t go for it

      @@Sean-398 I’m glad I’m not alone. All I been thinking about lately is to start my own bookkeeping firm and grow little by little. I just don’t see myself doing what I do now for a long time. I think we just need a mentor who we can ask when we’re exposed to something we aren’t familiar with even if it will cost us money.

      @@ZiadAhmed-v3g So what if you fail? People fail all the time. That's how you learn and get better. Chances are you'll fail until you succeed anyway.
      If you hate your job, you're already failing yourself because you're not doing what you authentically want to be doing.
      Find a way to take the risk. Do it on the side part time, whatever.
      Time goes by so fast and then we die. Don't wait. Find a way to do it now and if you fail, whooptie doo. No one will hold it against you. And you can keep trying till you don't fail. You can always pay the bills with a crappy job until you figure out how to get it right, but you can't get the time back you wasted by not acting now.

    I need a job change. I have no accounting nor bookkeeping experience. Where should I start to build knowledge and resume to sell my experience to clients when starting the business.

    Do you offer to do AP, AR services, running payroll for them, sales tax filing to your clients? Or do you just do strictly bookkeeping?

    • @Bookkeeping_Life
      @Bookkeeping_Life  7 місяців тому

      The beauty of having your own bookkeeping business is you get to decide what you will offer. Most of us do offer AP, AR and payroll processing (by utilizing a payroll service provider). Some offer sales tax filings and others don't. Sales tax is specific to the state your client is in so that would be part of the decision on that.

    Do you think this is viable for a university student to do on the side, I’m capable of doing work but might be hard to get clients

    • @Bookkeeping_Life
      @Bookkeeping_Life  9 місяців тому

      I honestly do, but you might think outside the box a little. Maybe go to University sponsored groups, like fraternities, sororities, or club organizations. Pitch to them and see if there is a need.

      Definitely do not disagree, but you might be surprised at how bookkeeping can translate across industries. Taxes are a whole different monster though.

      @@Bookkeeping_Life I have a firm that does bookkeeping and CFO work. There are tons of amateur & inexperienced bookkeepers that push out a lousy product. Tbh, they should be working for someone first and then go into an industry they are familiar with. Sure, the very basics can translate, but all industries have some nuance. And some are very complex.
