  • Glass minnows are a light weight and easy to cast fly. They are also very easy to tie. Great flies for mimicking small fry, or see through fish like glass minnows. You will love fishing this fly, and also love tying them. Great for inshore saltwater species like redfish or sea trout, and also great for fresh water fish like bass and large trout.
    Materials used:
    Fibers:
    Super Fiber - Natural White
    Hook: Gamakatsu SC15 in size 1/0
    Epoxy:
    Solarez "thin hard"
    Eyes: Silver 5MM eyes
    Body wrap:
    Cactus Chinelle - white/clear

      +Mc. Fly Lures Would you be able to tie the Seatrout Special? It is supposed to be by Tom Lentz. You can find a copy of the recipe at www.flytyer.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=118&Itemid=83. The Seatrout Special is supposed to be a bright attractor pattern. Thank you! If you could let me know when you do it, that would be great.

      +Charles W looks to be close to the seaducer fly I tied. Check out that video for a quick reference. It's basically that fly with a few small differences and colors. I will look into getting the colors needed for that fly, give me some time on that. I'll let ya know when I finish it and upload the video. Thanks!

    I'm going to try this pattern but use a long shank hook with a cut hackle tail and maybe a bit more flash ,I'm looking to try to do something like a tread fin pattern .🤔

    Do you find that trimming the fly works better, or just leaving it be?

      Sorry flats, I haven't seen that video in forever, and its been almost a year since I uploaded it. Not sure exactly what I was talking about in it. Did I mention possibly trimming it or not?
      I mean, its best to pull out some of the fibers to make them not "squared" before tying. If you take some real time and planning you can do the fly without any trimming. But it is synthetic, so you don't have to worry about the tapered ends like you would with buck tail. So you can trim to whatever shape you want after..
      I hope I answered the question correctly for you. Again, I haven't seen the video in a while, and youtube doesn't want me watching my own video's too often due to the ads on there.

      No worries,
      I dont believe you mentioned trimming, you did taper the ends a bit by plucking some, which I guess is what you were going for. Sorry for the confusion, tight lines

      Hey no problem flats, no need to apologize. You are totally fine. Yeah, I always just pluck the ends to taper the materials before tying in with this fly, but you could totally trim it once all the pieces are in.
      Check out my "reversed tied craft fur" fly. Its another way of tying this way, that you might want to try for this fly as well. It seems to be quicker in my opinion. I stumbled on tying it this way somehow, and it is my preferred method now.

    I wonder if you can use Marabou instead of the synthetic fiber

    Also is the uv epoxy necessary ?

    • @McFlyAngler
      @McFlyAngler  8 років тому

      Well I find it necessary to keep the eye on and make the fly more durable, but there is this gel form of superglue you could use to attach the eye... I just find it not as durable.

    Could u use estaz instead of the cactus chenille ?

    • @McFlyAngler
      @McFlyAngler  8 років тому

      Yeah, sure! You can use just flashabou also. There are lots of things you could use here. Even dubbing.

    nice video. what size hook did you tie it with?

    • @McFlyAngler
      @McFlyAngler  8 років тому

      It was a 1/0 hook. Rather large yes, but I'm using it to fish bass, so I like it large.
