I love how Jack says, in short: Copy the great players... which is of course sage advice: But start by copying jack first... because he's done the work and you can just park your car right here and fill your tank with premium licks and runs - as tasteful and stylish as the best of all times / subscribe and start breaking his stuff down today, I've gotten better in less than a month just by literally stealing his runs - its PURE GOLD people... this has been a lifesaver for me and I've been playing for almost 40 years
Yep, I just came across him today and instantly subscribed and hit the bell. Been playing 44 years and its plain to see how much and how fast I can learn from this guy!
JACK! Watching and listening to the first 56 seconds of this video reminds me of the the first time I heard Robben Ford or Mike Bloomfield, even Clapton with the Bluesbreakers! Except that you present it without going over the top with show off speed, playing so classy with that extra touch of jazzy knowledge that makes the simplest riffs come alive with newness, it kills me! Playing 56 years now I’m 70 years old and Robben’s teaching course I took was complicated when it didn’t need to be, like he was showing off during his “lessons” I came away feeling like I learned nothing. Flat. More knowledgeable but uninspired. Your touch, sound, FEEL, and “outside the box” knowledge just kills me, like the first time I heard you. Makes this old man feel the way I felt the first time I heard Bloomfield, etc. like a kid again- excited! Thank You Again!! - SJB
I can't get enough of your playing. Beautiful phrasing, clever lines, and you let every solo breathe. Thanks so much for another brilliant video. -Mark
This is the first lesson in a long time that I kept coming back to practice until it felt solid. So easy to look for knowledge anywhere else instead of deepening what's already there!
The more I watch Jack, the more I realize the man is an encyclopedia of music theory. Going through those shapes and scales like that with no mistakes, no pauses, and no cuts of the camera is pretty amazing. The Lord gave you a gift my friend!
Cannot believe this kind of instruction is available for free! And I cannot thank you enough for the clarity, the economy of words and your generosity.
Your knowledge and ability of this has been a (needed) gentle rebuke. I have been playing Professionally since 1966, but I realize how that got in my way. "Well, I'm already making my living doing what I love, and on a fairly large scale, so I don't need to work on all of that." (Opened for the Allman Bros. in '69, and Ricky Nelson in '71). That was FOOLISH thinking. I share this now, for any of your students who may fall into that self defeating nonsense. I let YEARS go by where I basically played the same thing every night and spent NO time at all learning anything beyond what I knew. DON'T DO THAT! I watch your fluidity and your immediate knowledge of WHAT you're playing, and I kick myself in the butt! That being said, I want to thank you for posting such a valuable lesson, and encourage your students to LEARN IT... ALL OF IT! God Bless You!
I've loosely known these 'layers' of scales and arpeggios for a little while but struggled to incorporate them into a coherent exercise. Seeing a full demonstration of this in each position of the neck is just what I need to consolidate that information. Thank you very much. I know this one will bear results.
A short and sweet video but the info will take me an age to get under my fingers. Thanks for putting it out so concisely and in a way that is plain to understand. Now, I need to practice, practice, practice!!
Wow!!! So refreshing to hear a player choosing all the right notes instead of fuzzed out mindless noodling. Must have listened to Larry Carlton and Robben Ford a time or two. As a brand new subscriber I have to say I sure am glad I stumbled across this channel.
Crazy fingerings you use I've seen a lot of guys do this but not playing the intricate lines you come up with. Your a great combo of blues and jazz sensibilities. Love your playing
❤ - Tremendous wealth of information for Dominant Blues, Thank You….. very easy connection of the pentatonics and arpeggios for the various positions. Format was perfect… 1) Example Solo / Transcribed 2) Chords in backing 3) Scales Used 4) Target Chord Tones / Arpeggios 5) Connecting each fretboard Position. LOVED IT!!! ❤ *** Could You please consider doing this for a Minor Blues in G.
Great lesson Jack! Super helpful to show the same 3 chords ( scales and arpeggios) in all those different positions so a student my find one they might not be familiar with and can use that for strengthening their ability to improvise more freely. Have a blessed day! Keep up the killer work!
So THAT"S where Robben gets his starting points! Done looking at UA-cam videos for the day, headed back to the 335. What a totally cool way to break this down Jack. BIG Thank You.
Thank you so much Jack. That was a Master Class of knowledge and practice material delivered succinctly in just 8:24. I am making a vow to myself to take advantage of this treasure trove of guitar gold and dive into this wealth of info in the coming days. Thanks again.
Had to take the time to thank you for giving back the talent you hold. Discovered you thru Michael Parmisano,Brett papa and Guthrie trapp. After a huge life change once again music saved my life as it did 30years ago when shuggie Otis changed my path from a suicide attempt to deep, deep connection. Sitting down and soaking the teaching is as powerful. I am grateful you replied to a comment I posted and I am so excited to learn more .sorry for this novel!! Blessings and love to you and family x
Don't get mad, but I fell asleep with you last night... I lied, every night. You have no idea how this has launched my understanding of the fretboard. Diving into 2-5-1 next round. Million guitar players out there, and one guy who can teach. At 60 I'm proving its never too late! thank you so much...
Hey Jack, long time fan. I was watching your youtube videos when you were living Japan (?) 10+ years ago - Hendrix, Clapton .... still have those video on my computer
OMG - Jack, love these lessons you started doing. I know I have told you before just how silky smooth and effortless you are on phrasing, but your just as silky smooth in teaching. And the fact that you are doing these will just entice more people to do private lessons with you, join your patreon, buy your truefire or all the above. Just sent you an email regarding private lessons.
What an excellent lesson. I'm 72, and I've been playing acoustic guitar my whole life. I just recently bought an Epiphone Dot and a little Fender Vibro-Champ amp. I am having a blast, thanks to these great Jack Ruch tutorials. Thank you, Jack!
New fan & subscriber. You are one of the most genuine players ive heard. You don’t waste a note. Great lesson! So kind of you to include tabs, thank you Jack!
Been playing a while and though I use all of these, the practice of them in the way you describe is gold. Thanks from way down in New Zealand. Love your relaxed groove and feel. I’m a big fan and so glad I found you. 🙏🏼
Jack greetings from the UK brother. Thank you for sharing your knowledge! The tab on the screen really helps. Keep well and I hope you grow your channel.
Anything to help in regards to playing over chord changes, Jack! I’m so stuck in that space. Love your videos and love your playing. Keep up the great work!
@@JackRuch I often get stuck when I'm playing Am pentatonic over A major 1,4,5. I'll play Am over A (sounds great) then I move to the 4 chord and play D major chord tones. Doesn't feel right. I'll keep practicing, keep making videos!

Well said Andrew!
Jack Ruch and B.B. King. These two will take you a long way.
You put a big smile on my face w the park your car line. That’s was as good as Jacks phrasing.
Nailed it, this guy makes me feel like a kid again and I’m 70!

This ^ a hundred times THIS !
Great practice ideas, THANKS 🙏
No wastage of time, no show off... Just to the point discription of knowledge and lessons with the calm spothing voice.
Glad you like it!

Thank you Jack for a solid lesson. I’ll be referring to this frequently. So kind of you to share your knowledge and passion.

Oops, see below that this is in progress. Looking forward to it!
Great stuff Jack. I really appreciate you sharing all of this. I’ve learned more since I discovered you than I have in the last 10 years!
wide intervals sound great; how 'bout a tritone and a 5th in tha opening riff--cool!
