Ironic, culture has gone full circle, considering it was Indian indentured servants that originally brought the plant to Jamaica. Yes the word "Ganja" is derived from the name of the River Ganges where the plant grew, in that basin region, in its natural habitat and was frequently smoked by Indian labourers. Not saying that was where it originated, but that is how it made its way into Jamaican society and culture.
