    The framing of this video is…strange. Particularly the title. “Access” to outdoor swimming? It’s more like “Spreading the joy of outdoor swimming in communities of colour” or something.

    Access? pretty sure no black person is being turned away from a swimming centre/ outdoor area on the basis of race. What they really mean is encourage so why not say that?

I'd pay my 6p, get changed, swim for as long as I liked, have a great time, get changed again, have some of that lovely machine hot chocolate, (no kidding, it was delicious) and go home feeling fit and invigorated. For all the reasons pointed out in the video which are statistically backed. Less black people are taught to swim. Not only does this mean less opportunity to enjoy it as a hobby which the video stressed, but as was pointed out it also means they cant teach their kids which means it carries on unless they make a point of finding someone to teach them. And completely excluding leisure more people knowing how to swim is a good thing. Drownings do happen. Accidents happen. So kind of a good thing to have more people knowing how either to save themselves or to possibly help someone else.

    • @seankilburn7200
      @seankilburn7200 2 роки тому

      @@khaxjc1 ‘less black people are taught to swim’ ? That is quite simply nonsense. What on earth gave you that idea? Black people now have exactly the same opportunities as white people and have done for decades . The only thing potentially restricting people from access to swimming lessons is the class system and there are certainly plenty of white people that are deprived.

      Exactly and frankly all schoolchildren should be taught to swim. Was when I went to school pre EU days - crazy times heh.
      Maybe they will bring that back. Though with my local council closing our pool (thanks LIbDems) life is just utterly flipped on it's head.
      What is needed is cheap swimming lessons/affordable for those who can't swim - whatever the age. As parents who can't swim, will only install that dear into their children and that cycle needs to be addressed.

      Have 1000% never any stereotype that black people can't swim. And even if there were one, why would that make black people not want to go swimming if they want to? Are they afraid everyone around them will think they're drowning?

      Geralt of Rivia while its great that you haven't thought to exclude others it doesn't change the fact that people are excluded so if you really think people should be able to do whatever regardless of skin tone, you should care about inclusion. And sometimes, that is as simple as your reply comment saying people should be bale or telling people "oh yeah you are completely welcome to join in on this." But by saying this is about making swimming racist or life is more than skintones in response to a factual divide doesn't help. If you really dont care about skin tone and think people should do whatever say that instead of trying to put people down for facts.

      None of my friend who were girls from different cultures were allowed to go swimming. I went to a all girls school and that was true to be the case from my personal experience.
