    to me the merged one sounds better than studio, more natural and organic.

    Great Job! Yet another stupid question ;-) It would be a pleasure to try out your THC Profiles in reality - is there any possibility that you would share these ?

      Tobi Tobsen of course, I'll upload them to the rig exchange later;)

    What im really wondering is, how the hell did you connect a keyboard to the kemper? Naming profiles is my biggest nightmare on this thing.

      plug in a USB keyboard into the KPA USB port (rack on the front, toaster in the back) and off you go;) but some apple keyboards might freeze the KPA, so you might better take some cheapo USB keyboard for that task.

      Awesome, never imagined it was that simple! Hopefully one day we will also have mouse support :D

      i hope we'll have an editor one day

      I kinda doubt it. The thing has been out for years now, and if they havent made an editor till now, i doubt they ever will. Altough i really dont understand why, it should be a goddamn standard with an expansive product like this. Im actually considering switching because its so annoying to use the small screen...

      @@NicoSchliemann OMG, this tip was even better than your video itself, which was great! Thank you!!! LOL! =D

    Why one would create a merged profile? For quality purposes or so you can disable cabinet and use a real amp with the direct profile on stage and a studio profile on the foh? Thanks.

    • @NicoSchliemann
      @NicoSchliemann  4 роки тому +2

      +Paulo Gervilla you’ve just answered it yourself.
      The purpose is a better representation of the profile, when you are using a conventional guitar cab on stage to monitor and the profiled cab sound to FOH.

    Yet another stupid question. The merged file sounds a bit more dimensional I guess? The video rolled quickly. This is two profiles together right?

    • @NicoSchliemann
      @NicoSchliemann  7 років тому +2

      Mark Roddy a merged profile can be though of as a direct profile with the cab of the studio profile. It might sound a bit "different" (won't say better here) than the studio profile because the KPA knows what just the amp is reacting without the cab due to its basis being the direct profile. The KPA somehow just takes the cab from the studio profile and when you merge them, you can run both at best possible quality, direct out for a guitar cab (with Monitor cab turned off) and the signal direct to the pa with the cab active.

    Excellent video tutorial, Nico. Well done.
    I would simply offer the following suggestion...
    You might want to explain, in a commentary box for this video, that the "normal" method of making a Direct/Studio/Merged Profile is to use a suitable DI Box (which accepts speaker level signal) and an actual mic'd cabinet. Here, you are using a Two Notes Torpedo Live, which is a great piece of kit...but it might be a bit confusing for those not familiar with this device, who may wonder if it is necessary.
    I presume you are using the Torpedo Live, en lieu of a DI Box + mic'd Cabinet, due to ease of use. That is, it is both a load box (so you don't need to connect amplifier to a speaker cabinet) plus it has built-in cabinet/mic simulations. In other words, the Torpedo Live eliminates the need for a dedicated DI Box, and the "hassle" of actually connecting and mic'ng a physical guitar cabinet.
    Cheers.

      you are absolutely right with every point here. as i'm not scripting any of my videos, i totally forgot about that issue. but due to lack of me ownning the torpedo live and not having a DI box, that is capable of accepting speaker level signals and outputing line level, i have no chance to show this here. but good, that you mentioned it.

      Are there really d i boxes that accept a speaker load? I don't think so.

    • @Deuterium2H
      @Deuterium2H 2 роки тому

      @@SHREDTILLDEAD Hello JR. There are a bunch. However, in this particular use case -- that is, in the context of a DI Box suitable for use with Kemper during profiling of a tube amp -- you would not necessarily be looking for what is called a "load box". All you need is a DI Box that is designed to "pass through" a Speaker connection. In other words, with these DI Boxes, they will have a speaker pass through connection, which you connect to your amplifier's speaker/cabinet. Since it is NOT a load box...it is essential that you connect the DI Box to the speaker cabinet, via this pass through connection. A suitable DI Box will also (obviously) have a DI connection which you connect to the Kemper. See this link to a discussion on the Kemper User Forum, for a list of suitable DI Boxes. Also, Kemper makes and sells their own DI Box, which is specifically designed to be used with the Kemper:
      www.kemper-amps.com/forum/index.php?thread/19540-di-boxes-suitable-to-create-direct-amplifier-profiles/&pageNo=1
      And yes, there are dedicated load boxes with DI connections. They would be required if you wish to do silent recording. Or, if you need to be silent when using the Kemper to make your own profiles. If you only need it for making Kemper profiles, then a true "load box" may not be absolutely necessary...simply because one may be able to plan and "schedule" a profiling session in advance, for a convenient time/place when it is possible to connect to an actual speaker/cabinet and profile the tube amp at normal (sweet spot) volume levels. Here is one example of a dedicated reactive load box/DI solution:

    Cool. How are you editing the name from the computer keyboard? Also, an intro on what you are trying to do would be great! I assume you are substituting the profiled cab with a different one but that isn't clear at the beginning of the video. And why do you refine again after removing the cab?

    • @NicoSchliemann
      @NicoSchliemann  7 років тому +2

      PoGGiE06 hey, I'm just plugging an USB keyboard into the front USB port of the KPA, that way you can edit the names while saving through the keyboard rather than turning the little knob for every letter.
      And why am I doing no real intro to this? It's in the title "how to merge profiles on the KPA". I don't know, if you own a kemper or not, or you simply haven't heard of merged profiles yet (which is nothing to blame you for), but I thought, that people whatching this video have already heard the term "merged profile" but just don't know how to do it properly. The concept behind a merged profile is, to take two profiles (a direct one without speaker and a studio one with speaker and mic) and take the cabinet of the studio one and merge it with the direct profile (copy the studio profile cab into the empty cab slot of the direct profile). This will secure the best possible sound for going directly to the pa (using the cab) or a guitar cabinet (not using the cab block of the kemper. Hope that clears up the stuff;)

    • @PoGGiE06
      @PoGGiE06 7 років тому

      Thanks Nico, I had no idea you could do that with the keyboard, great to know!
      Yep, I have a Kemper, I ought to RTFM ;). I've heard the term 'merged profiles', and have heard terminology ('studio' profile vs 'merged' profile) but I am still so n00b that I don't know what exactly it means :).
      So presumably you could take a direct profile from e.g. a commercial pack, and merge that with a cab from another commercial profile? And can you remove the cab from a merged profile to give you a direct profile?
      And if one can do the above, then presumably one can import IR e.g. www.richardcookson.co.uk/Tattva/ and merge with a Mesa Boogie direct profile from e.g. Tonehammer/Sinmix/Reampzone? which might be rather cool? that is something I'd love to be able to do in the Kemper if it is possible ...
      Sorry for such n00b questions, great vid and look forward to the next one :).

    • @NicoSchliemann
      @NicoSchliemann  7 років тому

      PoGGiE06 you can take any cab and copy it to a different amp profile, but the real purpose here would be to take two profiles of the same amp (direct & studio) so you'd have the captured miced sound for recording and the direct one for you guitar cab which should be as close as possible to the real thing plugged into your guitar cabinet.

    How can you set how much % or volume do you want from a profile when merging?
