Got a 25 year old delsey bag. It's still good. On my samsonite, all the seals went after about 15 years and I had to replace it. It got a lot of use though. Went round the world many times in flying distance.
There is always a trade-off between protecting the inside vs outer shell stiffness. A stiff shell will crack very easily. In the end I find it better to have these flexible (and also very lightweight) shells because broken luggage is the worst and you can always manage a way to protect your most fragile items.
This is exactly what I picture baggage handlers doing when I check my luggage. Great video!

When you climbed on top of the cube I almost lost it
