Looking forward to this, really need to manage my finances at the moment but I am keeping an eye on this and it looks promising. I can see so many features that hopefully will be implemented one day.
Would love the option to create some super useful flashcards to connect many words into one picture. (E.g. "The slimy frog was sitting on the green lilly pad at the center of the shallow pond last night" - kind of super sentence including many helpful words and grammar and can be represented with really simple image).
And I wish I can have multiple sentences like this for the same word to learn it in different context.

The app and idea is great for the beginning. Crucial for learning pronunciation of a language and definitely recommended for that. Also very good for learning some basic vocabulary and sentence patterns.
Later I find it's faster and more comfortable to work with Anki. There are many extensions like Anki Quick Adder for Chrome were you can create new sentence flashcards by two pushing two buttons without ever leaving the browser, while continuing to read new materials.
That said, already subscribed to Fluent Forever app to learn basis for Korean.

There needs to be something like a 625 word list for fundamental grammar. Like, a collection of sentence and expression types that you apply to any language that covers all basic verb tenses, conjugations, noun declensions (if applicable), various types of expressions, etc. Then you can just drop any of the 625 words into any of the sentences, mix and match and all that.

Problem is that's different for ever language group.

@@chrismixlewis Yeah, I assume it hasn't been done because it's a lot more work and each language is a unique set of configurations. It would take a lot of work but I feel like something could be put together that allows you to learn all the basic sentence structures AS you learn the 625. So by the time you know all those words, you also know how to use them in many different contexts and are conversational with them.
Fluent Forever allows you to pick sentences that go with the words but the sentences are kind of random. I suppose someone could do the work of making up sentences along the way themselves.
I actually just thought of a possible way it could be done. There's a guy who put together some huge sentence mining databases for a number of languages for Anki. He organized them in order of complexity as well as word frequency. I'm thinking a similar sentence database could be made that uses all forms of all words (conjugations, declensions, etc.), but of only the words in the 625 list. Sentences would appear only in the same order that the words appear on the FF app, and grammar elements would appear in grammatical frequency order simply by virtue of including all word forms in the frequency list.
I suppose it could be 2 separate "decks'. One of the words and one of sentences. Or sentences could just be spliced in with the words and start appearing once you've learned enough "brick & mortar" type words to build sentences with.
I'm sure algorithms for mining this information so it's not as tedious could be created to draw from raw frequency lists in any language rather quickly.
Oh well though. Guess a guy can dream 🙃

Sounds wonderful! But when will you incorporate the ability to import from Anki all of cards, scheduling information and statistics? And what sort of statistics will the app have? When this work is done, that's when I'll gladly jump over. Well done so far!

    Awesome. Two questions though:
Can I make flashcards for all three levels of sentences for a word? (E.g. make the easy, intermediate and advanced card for one word?)
Is there an option to let me skip the pronunciation card step? I've already used my Anki pronunciation trainers that I bought so I wouldn't want to repeat the process but just in a different app. I'll be using Anki and the FFApp in parallel to keep hold of my old cards whilst making new cards in the new app.
    Keep up the great work!

    • @NetAndyCz

Would love the option to use multiple sentences for the same flashcard/word as well. Especially since some words have multiple meanings.
"_____ is the third planet in solar system"
"_____ is one of four elements and often depicted as the opposite of wind"
"_____ is the brown stuff you walk on and plant your vegetables in."
The answer is always Earth but the context is rather different. And plenty of useful grammar.
Also I think that connections are the single most important thing about learning anything aand not forgetting it. The more connections you have to a single word, the easier it is to remember it.

No app can 'teach' you anything, much less grammar (good books and tutors can). SRS apps don't necessarily teach, they aid memory. That said, I'm sure Gabe would have some prearranged templates (à la Anki) to incorporate example sentences, fill-in-the-blanks, etc.

Hi Muhammad, The app will allow you to add your own images much as you would do with Anki. The process is much more streamlined and easy than with Anki, giving you more time to actually learn with the reviews!

You can also find an Italian television show/movie or even a familiar book that's been translated to your language of choice, and then jot down a phrase that interests or challenges you. For instance, I'm familiar with Harry Potter books (and I also enjoy them immensely); so, I have some in a variety of other languages to help me better familiarize myself with sentence structure, grammar, etc.

Hi. The beta app does not currently provide materials to learn English but as soon as we have launched our first six languages we will launch the first version of the app for learning English. We will release specific language pairs (i.e. Spanish speaker learning English etc..). If you have any further questions please let us know.
