You would have eventually heard Tarja. She was one of the founders of NW in 1996. The End of an Era concert in 2005 was the final show Tarja did with Nightwish, as they were having band turmoil and she was fired after the concert. Tarja holds a special spot in the sound of the band as her operatic voice opened up the symphonic metal genre. Anette was the second singer and was with the band until 2011. Then Floor Jansen became the 3rd lead singer. Floor can sing any style, at any time, switching from belting, to head voice , then growling, and end with an operatic High F#, all while windmilling(head banging with a twist). I would do the Wacken(Vah-ken)2013, Ghost Love Score for your next reaction because The NW army will demand it. You will hear a different ending, because Floor is just that creative. This live recording is from Helsinki, Finland in 2005, then together with Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya], the 1st female singer of the band. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. I't good to see someone having some reservations about the song/band and not immediately gushing all over it. Personally I had not seen any version with Tarja singing this song so that was an unexpected introduction. Having heard mostly Floor singing this it took a bit of bending my ear to it as I'm rather sensitive to the -but is different as what I'm used to- sentiment. Thank for a reaction to this masterpiece. This is my favorite song with Tarja when she was still in Nightwish. Nightwish are definitely not a Christian band and I don't think they have a Christian song. Thematically, the song is said to be more about Tarja herself. It comes from the last album that Nightwish recorded with her. After the concert, Tarja was fired - big drama, big trauma, lots of tears and depression, divided fans between Tarja and Nightwish. Many fans hate the band because of how they treated Tarja. Others accuse her of bad behavior, for which there is not a single proof. In her solo career, she is known for her close relationship with her fans. Fortunately, both Nightwish and Tarja are doing well these days. They have many fans in common and even started to communicate a little after many years. Tarja studied classical singing in Finland and Germany and still takes singing lessons today. She recorded 5 studio albums with Nightwish, from which most of their iconic songs come. I highly recommend her performance of Phantom of the Opera from the same End of an Era concert. This year, a version of Phantom of the Opera was also released with Floor Jansen. Some prefer Tarja, others Floor. If you ever do another reaction to Nightwish, definitely avoid comparisons. Trust me, it's a road to hell. The fans are still at war with each other over Floor and Tarja and it's a very serious topic 😀🙊There are many songs that Floor sings today, but they were originally sung by Tarja, and many reactors compare their versions. Today Nightwish continue with Floor Jansen. Nightwish continues with Floor Jansen, who is not as classically trained as Tarja, but many like her "rockier" voice. @@ashlenamusic No reason to complain here. There is no bad version of any NW song. Whether it's Floor, Anette or Tarja, it's still Nightwish. I also don't like that when someone reacts to Ghost Love Score with Tarja, people write that it's the wrong version. It is still the most popular version for many fans. It's just about preferences. Ghost Love Score with Floor has been getting a lot of hype recently and a lot of new fans are going crazy when someone dares to do a reaction to the older version. It's up to everyone which version of any song they choose to react to. Both the Tarja and Floor's versions of any song are always very different. Both are phenomenal singers with completely different voices and charisma.
If you were impressed by the most metal keyboardist, I think you'll be even more impressed by him in the song "High Hopes." He simply overwhelmed me with his darkness.
Tarja is awesome. I found Nightwish in 2019 with Floor their last singer. Tarja grew on me. Tarja and Marko are not with the band anymore. The base player and the singer. Tarja isclassically trained and Marko has been around since 1984ish. Symphonic Metal Band from Finland. The keyboardist Tuomas writes about 98% of the songs. He probably meant the video from Wacken 2013 with Floor. Floor's been around since she was 16 and Tarja about 20. You have to check out Tarja's solo performances about 10 yrs worth. This version and the 2013 version are different. I forgot the drummer is only behind the scenes now. The 3rd singer can go from operactic to growls. They have 2 songs longer than this now.

The one here, Tarja Turunen, was one of the founding members of the band. After Nightwish, Tarja started her own rock solo career and she is still going strong. Nightwish has had three lead vocalists over their history. Tarja was the original. Her voice is very operatic. Their second lead vocalist was Anette Olzon, who has a voice best suited for pop music, I think. NW had very good commercial success during her time, though a lot of fans did not accept her because of the drama about Tarja's departure for which Tuomas composed a song titled the "Poet and the Pendulum", which is another song you should listen to. The latest vocalist is Floor Jansen. She has the widest vocal range of the three, in my opinion, and also has the most adaptable style. She can really sing just about anything. And if you think you got chills from this live version, wait until you listen to the Wacken show's version. The chills you will get when she hit some of the higher notes are called a "Floorgasm". LOL

You truly should look at Wacken 2013 with Floor singing - the most reacted to video on UA-cam…... That version was the pinnacle of Nightwish. She does hit notes that will make you cry!
Also my first time seeing and hearing this band. This was wild. I can imagine that it is a special experience to see them live and to be in that crowd. If they haven't made any songs for movie sound tracks I'd be really surprised. They are dramatic in the bast way. I enjoyed this a lot, but I think I'd have to be in a certain mood to listen to this kind of song. It demands more attention from the listener, so just having it on in the background while doing something else might be distracting, but if I was sitting down to just listen to some great music this would definitely be on the list.
enato is correct. There are 14 other songs in the 2013 Wacken concert(15 if you count Ghost Love Score) and each one is different, and each one is great. You should really check it out.
Hey Ash! The vocalist in this performance is their original vocalist Tarja but their current vocalist Floor Jansen is amazing as well, she's the vocalist in the Wacken 2013 performance. The keyboard player's name is Tuomas, and he's one of the founding members and is referred to as "metal Mozart" by the fans cuz he composes the symphony music. My favorite song of theirs is The Poet and the Pendulum, which is a couple minutes longer than this song and is very dark and personal for Tuomas, so they rarely perform it live.

I have listened to Floor's version of this song (Wacken 2013) hundreds of times (hint, the one to listen to if you want to hear high notes), but this is the first time I have heard their first singer, Tarja do it, so thank you for introducing me to it. I won't go into a long dissertation about the band, but will just say that, if you continue your Nightwish journey, you will discover a band where every song is different, and there isn't a bad song in the bunch. They are a group of dedicated and professional musicians who perform for the song. No ego here, it's a group effort to produce the best music they are capable of. to me this version is even better than the 2013 one, because its darker and more haunting, fitting the style better - as with most older songs of nightwish. They were written to be haunting, perfectly fitting for Tarjas voice. Floor is fantastic too, but more so with the songs written for her, while the songs that were just adapted for her voice, well. i don't really like those new versions, and prefer the originals.

Floor had been with the band only 10 months before Wacken. She was called up to fill in as lead singer for the US/South American World Tour in Oct. 2011. She had 48 hours to learn the 17 song setlist before her first concert with them in Seattle. Ghost Love Score was NOT in that set list, but Floor knew the song and loved it, so while on tour, they rehearsed it and it was first played in Austin, Texas. The rest is history in the making. Nice that you found the best music in the universe.....this is from 2005 with the almost original line-up and ultimate grand genuine one. Check the whole concert End of an Era - so you get wider picture. 1996 -> until now....they have 9 albums now and plenty of other material. Some say the most reacted band in UA-cam than any other. The keyboard player is Metal Mozart and genius. They combine metal and opera better than anybody and are pioneers of the genre. They can do everything....soft, heavy , opera, symhonic....hymns, rock, pop, everything !!! And poetry lyrics with intelligent messages...just do more you surely agree.
From this same End of an Era concert/DVD 2005, check out NIGHTWISH' rendition of "THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA". Nightwish style performance - at least to me - much better than the more conventional versions. Tarja, (pronounced Tar-ya), you just heard her, as Christine. This band has gone through 3 singers so it is literally 3 different sounds imo. Tarja Anette and Floor are all great singers. I was quite impressed with Floor(she will give you goosebumps) and that is what got me into them but each have songs that they sing better than the others. All in all this is an Epic band. It is Vacken the W is pronounced with a V. Welcome to the best event horizon in metal... the rabbithole is well-populated and is one of the friendliest in music. There will be a huge number of suggestions on where to go, and all of them are good. I will offer two suggestions: a) if you want to hear a note or two from Tarja's top-end of the operatic register, try their version of Phantom of the Opera from the ^^same show^^ ("End of an Era", 2005). In that song, you will also learn that Tarja is not the only singer in the band. or b) Move forward to that 2013 concert at Wacken ("Vah-ken"), Germany in front of a crowd of 82,000 Every Single Song in that concert is incredible... it was a magical night. But I respectfully suggest you listen to Dark Chest of Wonders, as it was their show opener. Words fail me. There you will meet Floor Jansen, a singer whohad been with the group only 10 months at the time of that concert and is still their lead vocalist. But your choice will be the one that *you make*. This original version with the first singer of Nightwish is really great but I think that Floor Jansen took the third singer of this song to a completely different level. You should also listen to Floor Jansen's interpretation, preferably the live version of Wacken 2013. The best thing to do is just listen to the Nightwish army, who will give you a lot of information about this extraordinary band. Otherwise a very cool reaction from them. 🤘🤘🤘

Yeyyy, my favorite one from NW and that with Tarja! They are not a Christian metal band and not all of their songs are so long but this one is a masterpiece! Since you like opera and metal, you might want to check out their Phantom of the Opera (I know it's a musical and not opera but there are some high notes there) from the same concert (End of An Era). Hell, that whole concert was on fire! It was the last one with Tarja. Tarja is their first vocalist and a founding member of the band and she is the most operatic of all three lead singers. As a TW fan, you’ll understand that as Teatro Metropolitan 2022 is to TW, Wacken 2013 is to Nightwish…their respective seminal performances. To me Tarja is great, but she is all opera, all the time. Floor Jansen, by comparison, has a much wider range of styles and more powerful voice. That said, you should definitely watch Nightwish’s version of Phantom of the Opera with Tarja, and be prepared to amazed by the voice of Marco, the Bassist.

This is a great video of Tarja performing Ghost Love Score and you did nothing wrong. - I just always wonder how some people who react to this song for the first time find this version (unless someone specifically recommends this particular video). You only need to type to the UA-cam search field: nightwish ghost, not even the full name of the song, and the first option is the Wacken video with 31M views. Why would you then go down the list to pick this one. Anyway like I said, a great choice. More please. Just click on the link Gabriel gave to his channel and follow his list. Nightwish is incredible I was turned on to them with Floor Jansen as the lead singer. I prefer Floors version of this song at Waken 2013 she does an epic belt at the end that is crazy good. This was my first time hearing Tarja sing this song and it was fantastic too. The band is sick. Dead boys Poem in Bueno Ares 2018 is a great song to check Floors vocals out. Thanks for this they have tons of great songs. I was deep down the Nightwish rabbit hole when I found the Warning both bands have a dedicated base which is cool and very fun.
Tarja Turunen is a classically trained lyrical soprano with a really nice career in both symphonic metal and classical music after Nightwish. Please react to some of her solo stuff like Mein Herr Marquis from her Beauty & The Beat tour and Pie Jesu, to hear her classical bright soprano tone, and Supremacy from Woodstock 2016 to hear that gorgeous chest voice and a pretty decent belt.
Nightwish is awesome :) I like Tarja voice more then Floors but that's personal preference. They have a lot of really good songs, my favourites are Sleeping Sun and Nemo though.
You listened to the best and original live version if this Nightwish song. Tarja was the first and best vocalist, then there was Annette Olson, and finally Floor Jansen, some prefer Floor's version of this song but I stick to Tarja's..., sweeter and more melodic. There are other Nightwish songs that no other singer can do as she did, try The Siren...
Agreed - I know a lot of people disagree with me on this, but I do prefer Tarja's original version of this song. I feel her darker, more ghostly and dramatic vocal style fits perfectly with the music and context of this particular song. That being said Floor's version is also great, it just has a very disturb l different tone - much brighter, sweeter and more "sparkly" almost. That being said, I think this is one of those songs where the first version you hear is probably the one that will set the tone for you.

Tuomas Holopainen is not religious. He called himself a "freethinker (secularist, atheist, agnostic... whatever, it's all semantics)". But he finds that religious imagery can be a very useful tool for poetry sometimes
Great reaction. :) If you like singer's vocal, I recommend her solo career. If you want to hear something heavy by her, I suggest "Crimson Deep" live from "Act I", if something not that heavy, then "Too Many" live from "Act II", London Metropolis Studios (I suggest version which is 8:50 long, because before song she explaining a little about it), or if you want to hear her full operatic vocal, then something from her classical career, maybe "Main Herr Marquise" live from "Beauty and the Beat" or her own "Ave Maria" song. :)
Just stopped by to see how many comments that said you watched the wrong video. Looks like at least half but almost all of them were nice about it which is good to see. Or maybe you delete rude comments... Anyway, I found NW during the Annette period and like a number of their songs but never really got that into them. But I will admit that the Floor Jansen version of this song is epic and you should definitely take the advice of all the comments telling you to watch that one. Cool reaction about a rollercoaster vibe song, with amazing Tarja! Also actual singer, Dutch Floor Jansen has an amazing life version! Concerning gothic metal I (being Dutch) recommend you some mighty Dutch gothic metal bands Blackbriar, Epica, Within Temptation, Delain, Vuur and The Gathering (both with Anneke van Giersbergen).

Refreshing to see Tarja, the original singer of Nightwish. You may want to check out the Wacken 2013 and/or Buenos Aires 2012/2018 versions. The are not a Christian band, onthe contrary, they have been heavily influenced by the works of Prof. Richard Dawkins, one of the best known atheist in the world. Check out the Greatest Show on Earth from Wembley 2015. Epic.

Speaking of sounding like a movie soundtrack. Did you notice the Jack Sparrow figurine on the keyboard stand? Tuomas was very inspired by film composers like Hans Zimmer, who wrote the music for the Pirates of the Caribbean films, at the time he wrote this piece. So it's not just there because he liked the look of the character =P (Yes officially Klaus Badelt wrote the score for the first movie but in reality at the last moment Zimmer stepped in to help and they lifted much of the themes etc from other scores Zimmer had done. Especially from Gladiator)
The christian band comment is quite funny knowing they are agnostics/atheists, and the last two albums have been about science and evolution. They have religious themes, but not worshiping, more like critisism and social commentary, they also use some biblical refrences and metaphors. I would really recommend to react to the Wacken 2013 one, which to me is vastly superior. The version of nightwish and this song with Floor as the singer is probably the most reacted song to in UA-cam, but this, this right here, is what made me fall in love with this band 20 years ago. I hope you continue to listen to Tarja’s Nightwish, since 90% of their songs were written for her voice. This is original version of song closest to album version with original vocalist Tarja. But you can hear all musical details and subtleties only on album version of song. You would have eventually heard Tarja. She was one of the founders of NW in 1996. The End of an Era concert in 2005 was the final show Tarja did with Nightwish, as they were having band turmoil and she was fired after the concert. Tarja holds a special spot in the sound of the band as her operatic voice opened up the symphonic metal genre. Anette was the second singer and was with the band until 2011. Then Floor Jansen became the 3rd lead singer. Floor can sing any style, at any time, switching from belting, to head voice , then growling, and end with an operatic High F#, all while windmilling(head banging with a twist). I would do the Wacken(Vah-ken)2013, Ghost Love Score for your next reaction because The NW army will demand it. You will hear a different ending, because Floor is just that creative. Have only known this band for 3 years and they don't disappoint. That is why they share my #1 spot with The Warning!!

Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band! This live recording is from Helsinki, Finland in 2005, then together with Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya], the 1st female singer of the band.
About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners.
Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory):
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland.
Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition.
Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya] (Operatic vocals) - you just heard her. She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen [pronounced Yansen] from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile).
There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps.

The algorithm just now threw this at my feet. Nice restrained but positive reaction. I't good to see someone having some reservations about the song/band and not immediately gushing all over it. Personally I had not seen any version with Tarja singing this song so that was an unexpected introduction. Having heard mostly Floor singing this it took a bit of bending my ear to it as I'm rather sensitive to the -but is different as what I'm used to- sentiment. Thank you for (maybe somewhat unwittingly) doing this version. It broadened my horizon.

Thank for a reaction to this masterpiece. This is my favorite song with Tarja when she was still in Nightwish. Nightwish are definitely not a Christian band and I don't think they have a Christian song. Thematically, the song is said to be more about Tarja herself. It comes from the last album that Nightwish recorded with her. After the concert, Tarja was fired - big drama, big trauma, lots of tears and depression, divided fans between Tarja and Nightwish. Many fans hate the band because of how they treated Tarja. Others accuse her of bad behavior, for which there is not a single proof. In her solo career, she is known for her close relationship with her fans. Fortunately, both Nightwish and Tarja are doing well these days. They have many fans in common and even started to communicate a little after many years.
Tarja studied classical singing in Finland and Germany and still takes singing lessons today. She recorded 5 studio albums with Nightwish, from which most of their iconic songs come. I highly recommend her performance of Phantom of the Opera from the same End of an Era concert. This year, a version of Phantom of the Opera was also released with Floor Jansen.
Some prefer Tarja, others Floor. If you ever do another reaction to Nightwish, definitely avoid comparisons. Trust me, it's a road to hell. The fans are still at war with each other over Floor and Tarja and it's a very serious topic 😀🙊There are many songs that Floor sings today, but they were originally sung by Tarja, and many reactors compare their versions.
Today Nightwish continue with Floor Jansen. Nightwish continues with Floor Jansen, who is not as classically trained as Tarja, but many like her "rockier" voice. Tarja has a successful solo career as a rock and classical singer. Her voice always gives me goosebumps.

@@ashlenamusic No reason to complain here. There is no bad version of any NW song. Whether it's Floor, Anette or Tarja, it's still Nightwish. I also don't like that when someone reacts to Ghost Love Score with Tarja, people write that it's the wrong version. It is still the most popular version for many fans. It's just about preferences. Ghost Love Score with Floor has been getting a lot of hype recently and a lot of new fans are going crazy when someone dares to do a reaction to the older version. It's up to everyone which version of any song they choose to react to. Both the Tarja and Floor's versions of any song are always very different. Both are phenomenal singers with completely different voices and charisma.

Tarja is awesome. I found Nightwish in 2019 with Floor their last singer. Tarja grew on me. Tarja and Marko are not with the band anymore. The base player and the singer. Tarja isclassically trained and Marko has been around since 1984ish. Symphonic Metal Band from Finland. The keyboardist Tuomas writes about 98% of the songs. He probably meant the video from Wacken 2013 with Floor. Floor's been around since she was 16 and Tarja about 20. You have to check out Tarja's solo performances about 10 yrs worth. This version and the 2013 version are different. I forgot the drummer is only behind the scenes now. The 3rd singer can go from operactic to growls. They have 2 songs longer than this now.

Nightwish has had three lead vocalists over their history. Tarja was the original. Her voice is very operatic. Their second lead vocalist was Anette Olzon, who has a voice best suited for pop music, I think. NW had very good commercial success during her time, though a lot of fans did not accept her because of the drama about Tarja's departure for which Tuomas composed a song titled the "Poet and the Pendulum", which is another song you should listen to. The latest vocalist is Floor Jansen. She has the widest vocal range of the three, in my opinion, and also has the most adaptable style. She can really sing just about anything. And if you think you got chills from this live version, wait until you listen to the Wacken show's version. The chills you will get when she hit some of the higher notes are called a "Floorgasm". LOL

You truly should look at Wacken 2013 with Floor singing - the most reacted to video on UA-cam…... That version was the pinnacle of Nightwish. She does hit notes that will make you cry!
Also my first time seeing and hearing this band. This was wild. I can imagine that it is a special experience to see them live and to be in that crowd. If they haven't made any songs for movie sound tracks I'd be really surprised. They are dramatic in the bast way. I enjoyed this a lot, but I think I'd have to be in a certain mood to listen to this kind of song. It demands more attention from the listener, so just having it on in the background while doing something else might be distracting, but if I was sitting down to just listen to some great music this would definitely be on the list.

Hey Ash! The vocalist in this performance is their original vocalist Tarja but their current vocalist Floor Jansen is amazing as well, she's the vocalist in the Wacken 2013 performance. The keyboard player's name is Tuomas, and he's one of the founding members and is referred to as "metal Mozart" by the fans cuz he composes the symphony music. My favorite song of theirs is The Poet and the Pendulum, which is a couple minutes longer than this song and is very dark and personal for Tuomas, so they rarely perform it live.

I have listened to Floor's version of this song (Wacken 2013) hundreds of times (hint, the one to listen to if you want to hear high notes), but this is the first time I have heard their first singer, Tarja do it, so thank you for introducing me to it. I won't go into a long dissertation about the band, but will just say that, if you continue your Nightwish journey, you will discover a band where every song is different, and there isn't a bad song in the bunch. They are a group of dedicated and professional musicians who perform for the song. No ego here, it's a group effort to produce the best music they are capable of. I have subscribed to your channel so that I can follow you along this journey.
to me this version is even better than the 2013 one, because its darker and more haunting, fitting the style better - as with most older songs of nightwish. They were written to be haunting, perfectly fitting for Tarjas voice. Floor is fantastic too, but more so with the songs written for her, while the songs that were just adapted for her voice, well. i don't really like those new versions, and prefer the originals.

Floor had been with the band only 10 months before Wacken. She was called up to fill in as lead singer for the US/South American World Tour in Oct. 2011. She had 48 hours to learn the 17 song setlist before her first concert with them in Seattle. Ghost Love Score was NOT in that set list, but Floor knew the song and loved it, so while on tour, they rehearsed it and it was first played in Austin, Texas. The rest is history in the making. Their new album will be released in 2024,@@indvnc
Nice that you found the best music in the universe.....this is from 2005 with the almost original line-up and ultimate grand genuine one. Check the whole concert End of an Era - so you get wider picture. 1996 -> until now....they have 9 albums now and plenty of other material. Some say the most reacted band in UA-cam than any other. The keyboard player is Metal Mozart and genius. They combine metal and opera better than anybody and are pioneers of the genre. They can do everything....soft, heavy , opera, symhonic....hymns, rock, pop, everything !!! And poetry lyrics with intelligent messages...just do more you surely agree.
From this same End of an Era concert/DVD 2005, check out NIGHTWISH' rendition of "THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA". Nightwish style performance - at least to me - much better than the more conventional versions. Tarja, (pronounced Tar-ya), you just heard her, as Christine. The bassist/vocalist, Marko, sings the role of The Phantom unlike (= better than) anyone. Matter of taste of course. I think you're in for a surprise.

This band has gone through 3 singers so it is literally 3 different sounds imo. Tarja Anette and Floor are all great singers. I was quite impressed with Floor(she will give you goosebumps) and that is what got me into them but each have songs that they sing better than the others. All in all this is an Epic band. It is Vacken the W is pronounced with a V. As everyone has stated this is the OG vocalist for Nightwish Tarja Turunen , she was replaced by Anette Olzon and THE UNIVERSE ALIGNED in 2012 and they asked ex AFTER FOREVER and REVAMP vocalist the one and only FLOOR JANSEN to fill in , who eventually was asked to be a permanent member of the Band .

b) Move forward to that 2013 concert at Wacken ("Vah-ken"), Germany in front of a crowd of 82,000
Every Single Song in that concert is incredible... it was a magical night. But I respectfully suggest you listen to Dark Chest of Wonders,
as it was their show opener. Words fail me.
There you will meet Floor Jansen, a singer whohad been with the group only 10 months at the time of that concert and is still their lead vocalist.
But your choice will be the one that *you make*. We will all respect however you approach the band.

Just watched your reaction to nightwish welcome to this amazing rabbit hole been watching the warning reactions so jealous you got to see them 😊 but again welcome to the nightwish army I've been hooked on them for about 4 years seen them live last year and without a doubt the best live show I've ever seen floor jansen voice, is just the best vocalist I've ever heard and I've been to a lot of shows over my 62 years not many bands I haven't seen in the rock world I wouldn't even pick a song to listen to as they are all fantastic but I would get to know the band a bit more and do some homework for poet and the pendulum as a graduation piece for me the greatest piece of contemporary music ever written
This original version with the first singer of Nightwish is really great but I think that Floor Jansen took the third singer of this song to a completely different level. You should also listen to Floor Jansen's interpretation, preferably the live version of Wacken 2013. The best thing to do is just listen to the Nightwish army, who will give you a lot of information about this extraordinary band.

Nightwish makes amazing music! Bust Ash, like you said, that's not what I listen to on a day to day basis. But I love that mix of rock/metal with opera! And honestly, I don't know why I don't love it more...

Since you like opera and metal, you might want to check out their Phantom of the Opera (I know it's a musical and not opera but there are some high notes there) from the same concert (End of An Era). Hell, that whole concert was on fire! It was the last one with Tarja. Tarja is their first vocalist and a founding member of the band and she is the most operatic of all three lead singers. You can check her solo work, too. For example, I Walk Alone, Victim of Ritual, Eye of the Storm...

I love Nightwish too, though still haven't listened to a bunch of their songs. This is Tarja, their original vocalist, but I personally like their new (well actually since 2013) vocalist Floor Jansen. My to go song of Nightwish is 'The Phantom of The Opera' and my favourite performance is this one:

As a TW fan, you’ll understand that as Teatro Metropolitan 2022 is to TW, Wacken 2013 is to Nightwish…their respective seminal performances.
To me Tarja is great, but she is all opera, all the time. Floor Jansen, by comparison, has a much wider range of styles and more powerful voice. That said, you should definitely watch Nightwish’s version of Phantom of the Opera with Tarja, and be prepared to amazed by the voice of Marco, the Bassist.

This is a great video of Tarja performing Ghost Love Score and you did nothing wrong. - I just always wonder how some people who react to this song for the first time find this version (unless someone specifically recommends this particular video). You only need to type to the UA-cam search field: nightwish ghost, not even the full name of the song, and the first option is the Wacken video with 31M views. Why would you then go down the list to pick this one. Anyway like I said, a great choice. More please. Just click on the link Gabriel gave to his channel and follow his list. Those videos are the best Nightwish song versions in UA-cam.

Nightwish is incredible I was turned on to them with Floor Jansen as the lead singer. I prefer Floors version of this song at Waken 2013 she does an epic belt at the end that is crazy good. This was my first time hearing Tarja sing this song and it was fantastic too. The band is sick. Dead boys Poem in Bueno Ares 2018 is a great song to check Floors vocals out. Thanks for this they have tons of great songs. I was deep down the Nightwish rabbit hole when I found the Warning both bands have a dedicated base which is cool and very fun.
Tarja Turunen is a classically trained lyrical soprano with a really nice career in both symphonic metal and classical music after Nightwish.
Please react to some of her solo stuff like Mein Herr Marquis from her Beauty & The Beat tour and Pie Jesu, to hear her classical bright soprano tone, and Supremacy from Woodstock 2016 to hear that gorgeous chest voice and a pretty decent belt.
Nightwish is awesome :) I like Tarja voice more then Floors but that's personal preference. They have a lot of really good songs, my favourites are Sleeping Sun and Nemo though.
You listened to the best and original live version if this Nightwish song. Tarja was the first and best vocalist, then there was Annette Olson, and finally Floor Jansen, some prefer Floor's version of this song but I stick to Tarja's..., sweeter and more melodic. There are other Nightwish songs that no other singer can do as she did, try The Siren...
Agreed - I know a lot of people disagree with me on this, but I do prefer Tarja's original version of this song. I feel her darker, more ghostly and dramatic vocal style fits perfectly with the music and context of this particular song.
That being said Floor's version is also great, it just has a very disturb l different tone - much brighter, sweeter and more "sparkly" almost.
That being said, I think this is one of those songs where the first version you hear is probably the one that will set the tone for you.

Tuomas Holopainen is not religious. He called himself a "freethinker (secularist, atheist, agnostic... whatever, it's all semantics)". But he finds that religious imagery can be a very useful tool for poetry sometimes
Great reaction. :) If you like singer's vocal, I recommend her solo career. If you want to hear something heavy by her, I suggest "Crimson Deep" live from "Act I", if something not that heavy, then "Too Many" live from "Act II", London Metropolis Studios (I suggest version which is 8:50 long, because before song she explaining a little about it), or if you want to hear her full operatic vocal, then something from her classical career, maybe "Main Herr Marquise" live from "Beauty and the Beat" or her own "Ave Maria" song. :)

Anyway, I found NW during the Annette period and like a number of their songs but never really got that into them. But I will admit that the Floor Jansen version of this song is epic and you should definitely take the advice of all the comments telling you to watch that one. Speaking of sounding like a movie soundtrack. Did you notice the Jack Sparrow figurine on the keyboard stand? Tuomas was very inspired by film composers like Hans Zimmer, who wrote the music for the Pirates of the Caribbean films, at the time he wrote this piece. So it's not just there because he liked the look of the character =P
(Yes officially Klaus Badelt wrote the score for the first movie but in reality at the last moment Zimmer stepped in to help and they lifted much of the themes etc from other scores Zimmer had done. Especially from Gladiator)

The christian band comment is quite funny knowing they are agnostics/atheists, and the last two albums have been about science and evolution. They have religious themes, but not worshiping, more like critisism and social commentary, they also use some biblical refrences and metaphors. The current singer Floor Jansen is my favorite singer and is extremely versatile and has amazing stage presence.

As already mentioned, you have just seen (and listened to) their first singer Tarja Turunen who has been with them since their inception. But they broke up at the end of the concert you just watched: "End of an Era" in 2005. Their second singer was Anette Olson (Swedish), but their current singer is Floor Jansen (pronounced: Yahn -Sen, she is Dutch) and the requested version at Wacken Open Air 2013 was with Floor. GLS is certainly a long track, but definitely not their longest.
Assuming you will still watch GLS from WOA 2013, that was track #13 of 15. This will also fulfill your wish for singing with an oparatic voice.

Hahaha! I can only imagine the asses of Floor fans are burning right now. Because for them there is only one Ghost Love Score song and only one female vocalist singing it)))). This is original version of song closest to album version with original vocalist Tarja. But you can hear all musical details and subtleties only on album version of song. It's perfect and just incredibly beautiful. And Once album with this song is best in band's history.
