Eurovision 1976 - Israel

- Chocolate Menta Mastik performing "Emor Shalom" ("Say Hello"), the Israeli entry at the 1976 Eurovision Song Contest.
One of my personal favorites from that year, a wonderfully playful, wittingly old-fashioned number with a flawless performance by the three girls of the group. Note that the one with the long black hair in the middle is Yardena Arazi, who'd later become one of Israel's biggest stars, even having a much-publicised rivalry with the country's other platinum-selling artist, Ofra Haza. Yardena would also return twice more on the ESC stage, as the contest's co-host in 1979 and - again - representing Israel in 1988.
One of the best ever. A big cheers to tasosk. CHEERS!
Love this song
this is one of my faves ever.brilliant.
Amazing fashion in those days!
Thank you for posting!
I remember this song very well, I had it on tape!
the best song of Eurovision 1976
Israel always send the catchiest songs to ESC. One of the best songs from Israel anyways.
Great song. I believe the "feud" between her and Ofra Haza was overstated: Ofra won by one point in the Israeli selection show in '83 while Yardena finished second, and Yardena alleged that there was a mistake in the voting and she should've won, but she didn't want to harp on it and look like a sore loser.
There was a feud?
One of the best Israeli performances ever (:
A great song and one that I remember very fondly. although to this day I'm not sure why they all decided to wear their pyjamas on the night.
I love the clothes!!!
Emor shalom is not only say hello, it is mainly say peace!
So catchy! I liked U.K. best that year, but this was my second favourite. Israel nearly always puts a decent song in E.S.C. They REALLY should have won in 1983!
A minor mistake you have, Tasos- none of them were serving at the IDF at that time. They all finished there military service about 4 years before that contest (they already appeared in the Israeli song festival 1973 as civilians)
Translated // Emor Shalom - Say Hello (also double meaning: Say Peace)
Come / come / come even today /
I'm still here / so come say hello (peace), come say hello (peace)
Come this instance / Give me your hand / I can already see the horizon
Come this instance / Give me your hand / almost thirty years that I'm alone.
Come / come / come even today /
I'm still here / so come say hello (peace), come say hello (peace)
If we want / it will happen / each other we shall meet on the road
Then we will walk hand in hand / and fill every lost moment.
Give me fa, give me re, give me mi - I want to sing as two
Give me fa, give me sol - then everyone will sing together loudly:
Come / come / come even today /
I'm still here / so come say hello (peace), come say hello (peace)
BRAVO INDEED!
מהמם
One of the girls was the host in Esc 1979
longblackhair lady was host
Yardena Arazi is a well known artist with a long career as a national top selling singer and host. She competed a number of times in 80's Kdams and twice in Eurovision (once as this group and as artist of choice between 4 songs, with Ben Adam (1988) after she had lost twice coming second in the Kdams. She hosted the contest in 1979 but when Israel won again, in 1980 the IBA awarded netherlands the hosting because of hyperinflation problems in Israel between 1979-1985.

Oops, sorry for that (I guess that either I or my sources were mistaken). Consider it fixed!
A country just have to be a member of the European Broadcast Union - and Israel is.
Love it shalom means hello❤
Israel is closer to europe culturally and mentality than bulgaria or romania for instance
or even Greece , for instance
Good G-d! They look like El-al cabin crew that haven't learned to be surly and angry yet!! hehe
@refohtiew: It rather was the other way around, that Morocco only could enter that year because Israel didn't.
Deserved 3rd place
@TheBlueyedblond Israel are allowed to enter because the European Broadcasting Area extends beyond Europe to the countries around the Mediterranean. Even Morocco entered once (in 1980). Most of the other eligible non-European countries don't enter because of Israel's presence in the competition.
לדעתי הם לבשו וילונות
@Woollylinnet But because Morocco entered ESC, Israel took not part in it! Therefore Morocco resigned - up to now!
not true. the only times Israel didnt take part was because the contest night fell on memorial day. Israel never has any issue with Morocco in esc, its only the other way around (always).
What? Israel is not a part of Europe.
U r an idiot
@@alonb2806 one, this comment was like like ten years ago, two Go fuck yourself.
Israel is not part of Europe but to be in the Eurovision you need to be a member of the EBU
מה לעזאזל ?!
לא יאה ולא מתאים
