  • Fan editor Billy Batson's feature length cut of ADVENTURES OF CAPTAIN MARVEL (1941), with Tom Tyler and Frank Coghlan Jr.
Note: The serial that this film is taken from is reported by Internet sources to be in the public domain. For a copy of the full serial, with informative commentary, I'd recommend the recent Kino Lorber blu-ray: www.amazon.com/Adventures-Cap...

I remember seeing this at least 50 or 60 years ago. I'm 80 now....remembering Whitey as one of the the Dead End Kids in the 40's with Slip and Satch. For that era these were great
    special effects.

  • @YouTubeallowedmynametobestolen

I love how this is supposed to take place in Siam (present day Thailand), and later the location is near Khandapur in India, but the attributes of Captain Marvel are described as those of Greek gods and demigods (10:05).
It's like the writers just figured, "Eh, it's not North America, and it's not western Europe. So it's all the same."
It's also adorable how the script of that ancient language at 10:06 is actually stylized English letters.
    🤣

I love Billy's "Golly, gee-whiz" voice and intonation.

When the Fleisher brothers were commissioned to produce the Superman cartoons, they found the constant leaping would be too labor intensive to animate. Hello, I first posted this video when the fan-edit was made in 2018. For a long time thereafter, it averaged less than 100 hits per day, but I've noticed that there's been a spike in hits over the last month or so. Last month, in early March, the number of hits began to go up quickly, peaking on March 31st at over 23,000 hits on that day alone. The hits have dropped since then to around 7,000 hits on April 2, and if the trend continues should be back to normal in a few more days. So what happened in March? Why the sudden spike to over 23,000 hits per day? In other words, how did you hear about this video? Were you just randomly searching Google or UA-cam for videos about Shazam or Captain Marvel, or did you see a link to the video on a specific website? I'd like to know. I was shocked when I heard that they were calling him Shazam. Wouldn't Billy turn into Cap or back to himself each time he would introduce himself.

      you would think.
Also wouldn't it make more sense for shazam to say "billy!" ti turn back to billy and not just "shazam" again?

@Dig it Animations The whole point in the original serial, comic book, and TV series was to have a magic word to transform from one form to another. It is like when a magician says abracadabra or hocus pocus.

@@DigitAnimationsShazam was a magic word invoking the spirits of Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles and Mercury hence SHAZAM so Billy just wouldn't work.

much better written than the current version to be sure! actual depth. no modern "clever" chatty lines if dialogue. timeless. that's the difference between old films and modern movies. they suck nowadays

1:11:24 -- All that trouble to send airplanes up and drop those expensive bombs, miss, fly over again to drop more bombs, miss again, fly over AGAIN to drop MORE bombs.
When two of the villains had just been in the cabin with guns. All they had to do was shoot them with a gun.
I guess it's the Rube Goldberg approach to murder.
