Every day during the summer.. winter.. u name it. I was out in what residents call the back lakes here in Wisconsin. Patch this one up till u get a new one up. :-)

You know, in survival situations, attitude is everything. Your shed is basically a few scattered planks semi-organized into a cube, and you've duct taped yourself inside it during an ice storm, but you seem happy as shit to be out nature. Good work 👍
I understand why you entertain another cabin but at the same time this rough little home away from home is amazing. And this video is one of the best. Between the scenery you go into and the places you trek is just proof life is good. And the Antlers are a huge bonus. Thank you for taking us on your adventures. Growing up on a farm our house had a metal roof and I loved the sound it made when it rained and sleeted. The sound of sleet on your shack brought back some great memories when I was a kid. Thanks.

Hey Luke that's how me and my brother camped when we were younger we had a old chicken pen in the woods on our farm we made a chimney out of big river rocks and mud probably wasn't safe but we are still here have a wonderful weekend
Great video! Couple of ideas/hints: going "nr 2", just lean back against a tree trunk in a squatting position. Keeps the skin from contacting a surface you would rather not contact. Or, build a easily carried, folding framework with a toilet seat, and carry it out when you gotta. The missus would probably prefer that. You could staple some vapor barrier to your inside walls, maybe some foam insulation sheets, and there is a thin plastic wall covering in 4x8 sheets at Home Depot. About 3/16th or 1/4 inch thick,, pliable, easily trimmed with a box cutter, its white which would enhance interior lighting. If you want to hold down $$$, some more of that white cotton canvas stapled to the interior would gratly reduce the wind coming thru the gaps. Try to acquire a piece of tarp from an old dumptruck that has hauled asphalt. It is very heat resistant (asphalt about 400f when first loaded, and lot of tarps actually touch the hot mix). That could be used around the stovepipe if you dont want a solid interior wall. Extend the stove pipe above the roof, so the wind doesnt blow the smoke thru the gaps and fill the interior. Get new stovepipe, at least, but my experience has been less heat loss if you put the stovepipe vertical, thru the roof. Stove jacks are easily found. For just an overnight/weekend camp out, keep the shed but make improvements. Much cheaper that an off grid cabin and you could probably get everything accomplished in a 3 day weekend. New cabin will take lots longer. Look Get an ash shovel for cleaning out your stove. Adjust the damper in the pipe at night to slow down the burn rate, but still enough heat to remain tolerable, and you will probably have to fill the stove half as often. Look forward to the next video about the shed.
It looks like you had an awesome adventure. I know this was 2 years ago but it's still awesome.
I don't know what you've done with the shed but from a carpenter's perspective, I would put the stove pipe through one of the walls and extend it above the roof. Then wrap the walls in tyvvek and then horizontal boards. Build a more permanent door.
That's just my opinion. Love your videos, keep up the great work.
Spiders, I hate spiders 🕷. And although I enjoy these outdoor/camping videos my idea of camping is Howard Johnsons but will rough it at Motel 6 because they don't have room service...hey I like my creature comforts...but I really have learned a lot watching this videos.

This is a favorite video of mine. I have camped a number of times in converted sheds with a little stove like that, or one of my favorites as a teen was camping in an old barn my Grand Dad had moved piece by piece back in the 40's. Burrowing down in my sleeping bag with all the loose hay I could scrape up piled over the bag was so nice. I loved hearing the wind howl through the cracks, and listen to the sleet on the tin roof. This took me back to some good times.
A totally different kind of adventure! Pioneering in that great old shed with that awesome wood stove is so cool! Great dinner recipe too! Love the rain on the tin roof!
Canvas tarps are the key for covering up the gaps in your little cabin there mate. They usually come with riveted eyelets, so you can nail then up and take them down when your getting to hot in there. As for the vlog, you’ve got so much positivity in your vlogs Luke, massive mentor for the youth of today or those that need to get back on their path in life. Awesome work

I moved my family back to my childhood home in order to look after my elderly mother. I habe been wanting to go camping like you, but didny really have a place I felt comfortable. Now I do. There is a ruined quonset hut my dad made around 40 years ago on the property. I am hoping to set me up a place where I can go this coming Fall/Winter to camp. Thanks for the inspiration.

closing the door on your stove will allow the wood to burn WAY longer and still heat the room by radiation from the heavy cast iron once heated
I was wondering if anyone else would notice and say something. Also, one or more of those first logs should have been left and put in whole.

I agree. I grew up with a wood stove not much bigger than that as our only heat in the house. Also by keeping the door closed you keep the air flow from burning the wood faster. You go through wood really fast the way he dis it.

I'm 74 years old but surprisingly think just like you. I would have loved to have been there. That's the way I camp.
Love the boy scout mess kit I used the same one for at least 20 years.
My grandma bought it for me at a yard sale in around 1973 it was from the 1950's and even had a metal cup instead of a plastic cup.
Plus I had a WWII ERA MESS KIT IT WAS AWESOME.

I just love your videos Luke. This little cabin shed worked great in this ice storm. The property there looks amazing. Sounds like you will have the wood for future stays. Cover the holes up, and reenforce the walls, make a door, and the wood burner works great for cooking and heat. Stay safe.

I hunt and look for sheds every year but do a google search of it and you will find many reasons why they don't litter the forest floor ,including how they are eaten by other forest critters.
I would make doors, floor and staple up tar paper or cardboard at the inside of the walls. Let the charming outside be just like it is. And I would make the chimney twice as long, to get the fire going much better. I also would make a wooden chest with a padlock, to lock down my axe, saw, and other tools and coocking equiptment. Make a bed out of wood in a corner! That can also be used as a sofa.

Been watching this multiple times. It takes me back to when I was younger. I would be building forts all of the time. And the occasional 1 or 2 camping trips. I absolutely loved every minute of it.

Hey Luke, had a chance to watch this again and an idea I think you might want too look into is Five gallon bucket with a lid and handle and trash bags foam noodles that you can cut yourself as a seat cushion to sit on and make your own portable emergency toilet. You can also get these already set thru Walmart as "lockdown toilet bucket kit," under $30, you can also get these at Amazon as well.
Just an idea to look into for your next overnight adventure in the shelter at Lone Wolf Mtn..!
Our icing event had ice that was 1 1/4" thick. Power was out for 6 days. We are preppers, and we fed the neighborhood. They all learned something.

What a lucky find for the deer antlers, your face lit up like a kids on Xmas that was so exciting. The iced trees were gorgeous and dangerous. That wood stove was fantastic. Hey Luke. I would just start from scratch on the log cabin and use the shed you stayed in a wood shed for the cabin. Can hold a lot of chopped wood and still have room to do the chopping inside.

Luke, next time, you need to bushcraft some batons. Use those batons to seal up the gaps in the siding. I would also bring a roll of chicken wire and noseeum mesh to cove the gaps along the ceiling joists. I suppose you could bring enough mesh to tach up on the inside walls.

I just love these videos when I was younger I used to love to go camping didn't have very many people helping me out doing that though. But now I'm almost 60 and I don't see me cutting logs. But if I had someone do it for me it was with me I would enjoy it again that's one of my things are going to do again because I'm not too old to sleep in a sleeping bag thanks for the video

I'm 76 and still do tent camping with my wife, 77 in the Sierra Mtns. of California. . We also have a small toy hauler but love the feeling of connecting with nature a tent and fire provides.

I remember those old cast iron, wood burning stoves. Growing up, there were 7 of us kids and we had one in each bedroom. Dad would get up early, light a fire in each one of them and then go off to work. Mom waited until the house warmed up and then she'd get us up for school. By then, she'd have breakfast made. It was COLD during the winter, we'd stay in bed as long as we could. When those little cast iron stoves got hot, they did their job really well but they took a lot of wood, though.
I’d use my tent inside that shed... but that’s cuz I’m a big ass wuss when it comes to spiders.... that shack screams spiders...

I'd take a cheap $3 tarp along and pin it up overhead, at least over the bed. Would keep the spiders off you as well as drips from any roof leaks...

Thanks for making this video, Luke. I've been waiting for you to camp out in the shed since you first showed it to us. It's so cool that the old wood stove works. I think you should just make some improvements to the old shed and use it, rather than building a new one. The thought of reusing something so old and sturdy is really appealing - to me anyway.

I have been told, always chop 4x what you think you need for the night. So if you are staying for over 2 nights, you would need about half a cord I believe. That way, if it does rain, it would be covered or under something to keep it dry so you always have wood.

Tar paper and a staple gun on the outside to start with. Keep up the good work.
Maybe staple or nail some plastic sheeting on the inner side to help retain that heat as well as the tar paper and such. And tar the top then cover in dirt so its warm with the heater in the winter with thermal barrier with the dirt and also cooler in the summer...
Thin strips of wood will look much nicer and plug the gaps
I know you don't have a lot of time to watch videos but you really should check out TA Outdoors' Viking house series. You could use a mix of the surrounding grasses and mud/clay to fill in the smaller gaps in the walls. Trim the area where the big hole in the wall is and replace it with some pieces cut from one off the fallen trees from the storm. Building a front wall and door should be simple enough and I'll bet you can find an old window from a dilapidated house or barn for next to nothing. If you really feel ambitious, you could recycle old palettes and put a floor in for the missus.
@@carmengrace2413 Yes, if you nailed in vertical slats from the outside, this would work quite well. It would look nice, and close the gaps between the existing siding. Tar paper would look awful. Plastic sheeting would just trap condensation.

Don't know if anyone mentioned it but if you put a piece of reflector or even some aluminum foil between your wall and the lantern you will get more light as the reflector/aluminum foil will bounce light outward instead of the light shining on your wall. We do this with our lanterns when a storm takes the electricity out. I really enjoyed this adventure and I''m so glad to be a subscriber. Used to heat my house with one of those stoves during a Buffalo winter... Secret is to keep the door closed and put a 2 gallon kettle of water on top of it... Holds the heat in and moisturizers the air... Close up all the cracks. Used to burn old pallets, 3 sticks of wood would go all day...

The longer you keep that door on the stove shut. The more heat it will make. Making it hotter in the shed.
Also if you used the slide below the door it will make more heat
Exactly it lets the air suck in and keeps a flow of air on the coals because the pipe outside will "draw" the air through the stove when the vent is open... I know you probably know this Greg Tilton I was just explaining for those who didn't

Two old guys are out walking through the woods, one says I’ll be right back I have to go take a dump. He comes back and the other guy says how did you wipe? The guy says I always carry some toilet paper, but in an emergency you can use leaves or even a dollar, if you use leaves make sure it’s not poison ivy or something like that.
A little while later the other guy says I need to take a dump too and offf he goes, he comes back with crap all over himself!!! The other guy says what happened to you, the guy says I had no paper and I don’t no what poison leaves looks like. His buddy say why didn’t you just use a dollar, the guy says I did!!!! Do you know how hard it is to wipe your arse with
