If I remember the story, there was a lady born in Japan, but of Chinese parents. She became a singer & took on a Japanese name & grew popular - but then came the war. After the war she was exposed for being Chinese & was in danger & had to permanently leave Japan, going to China where she knew no one & had never been. This story tells of the pain of her parting from someone who obviously loved her. Now, if you hear her story elsewhere & there are discrepancies, trust the other one more than what I've been able to recall, here. This at least gives you the gist of it. Truly beautiful reaction! Neat, too, that you speak Japanese & were able to understand Dimash's first song in that language. I've been waiting for a Japanese speaker to tell us how well he handled it. The singing is superlative, but we don't know about the language - so thank you. New sub. ~♥~

This was a very enjoyable reaction. This is quickly becoming one if not the favorite Dimash performance for me and it invokes a very visceral response in me, just as "Ave Maria" did. Dimash sang “Ikanaide” for the Tokyo Jazz Festival in January of 2021 from what looks like his studio at home. According to several native Japanese speakers, Dimash’s pronunciation of the lyrics is nearly flawless. One native speaker, who gave a detailed analysis, stated that he is “expressing Japanese more (better) than Japanese”. Goro Matsui who wrote the lyrics to “Ikanaide” posted on his Twitter account that he has never heard a foreigner sing in Japanese in such a beautiful way. Tamaki Kōji composed the music and performed the song in 1989. "Ikanaide" became the title song for the Chinese-Japanese TV series “Farewell, Li Xianglan'', filmed that year. It is the story of Yoshiko Yamaguchi, a beloved Chinese-born Japanese actress, and singer during World War II, who hid her Japanese heritage under the name Li XIanglan. Following the war, when the Chinese became aware of her Japanese heritage, she was accused of being a spy and sentenced to death by firing squad for treason and collaboration with the Japanese; she had been involved in the production of Japanese propaganda films. Thanks to the intervention of influential friends she was cleared of all charges but urged to leave China or risk being lynched. His production company DIMASHALI moved into new state of the art facilities, some videos produced in the Creative Center there, which is smaller and more intimate, others on the much larger stage in the main studio. Its still staffed by long term collaberators, family and friends and he remains the creative force and sole head. He finally got that "too expensive" fantastic microphone he always talked about having ! Seeing that here brought tears to my eyes. The studios are another life dream realized. In that video he was singing this in Japanese, obviously he knew the words too. Dimash admires Koji Tamaki a lot, which can be heard in this version I think.
