- Three years ago we built a one-off Defender commercial for @DanielAshvilleOfficial …now he’s back with his new car and it’s time for us to see if we can help deliver the unique modifications he wants to make to his Land Rover. But there’s a problem - if Daniel gets something, EVERYONE wants it so now Si and Lenny have to play good cop / bad cop to ensure things run smoothly…keep your fingers crossed for a smooth build and handover…

Could potentially put PPF on the inside and outside of the rear window to give it more strength and hold the glass together if someone tries to smash the window again

Wouldn't a simple mesh like a dog cage be much better for securing the rear window? Easier to see out of as well
Yeah, and there's literally a type of bouncy glass you can put in as well, it's what police put on the sides of riot vans.

replace the rear glass with shatterproof or reinforced glass. If you want to beef up the window just add a wiper spacer. it cannot be difficult .
You need to use some "anti-smash" film for the windows. I had to use it on my old Golf GTi because people kept breaking in to try and steal my headunit 🤣 Stopped a few attempts after I had that installed. Even if the glass breaks, the film holds it all together and they still can't get in, not easily anyway!
Who's gonna let Daniel know that July 2021 to July 2024 is not "nearly 4 years" 😉

Guys, come on. With all the kit you've got there. You could most definitely sheet metal that rear window up and paint match it. It would definitely be something commercial buyers would want as an option.
As a faber/welder this is a 30 min job to fabricate.
@@smcdetailing7921 👍Bang on with the sheet metal suggestion ! that’s what i would go for , with a gloss black film over the metal to try and make it still look like it’s Glass , and the have a rear View camera fitted like they do on the latest Ford transits vans , it’s set up with the rear view mirror So you still get a normal rear view mirror when driving around .
Why can’t you remove glass and fix a insulated aluminium panel as the widow with a small camera hooked up to rear view mirror monitor?
thats what any normal coachbuilder would have done.

@@KB_187 I’m sure I’ve heard of sheets of vinyl that stick to the inside of the glass that make it virtually unbreakable
@@KB_187 you can't do that as it has to be a way for ppl to get out of ever a crash. Is plenty of ways to sort it but old Dan is to tight to spend coin
If U go back to the 1 where it was broken into last he is told that it has to be a exit so no cadge at back all locked up n what not daft UK rules again
@@michaelwebster6219i get what you mean but that’s the boot of the car, so why would anyone be back there? (unless being kidnapped). Plus this Defender only has the front seats and you can’t even access the back because there’s a barrier there. So the only way to really exit the car in an accident is through the front windows.
Also what about vans, they have no windows in the back and isn’t this Defender classed as a commercial vehicle? So wouldn’t the rules be different?
Why not put solid metail plate in place of the window like a commercial and then just have a camera or a the cage design on the outside as a design element similar to youe design a little like they use to over head lights

Could you not build an external cross frame with the ua shield in the middle , leave enough distance for the wiper or ditch the rear wiper . that would be a deterrent to breaking the glass. Great job irrespective 🙌

Could they not just use a thicker tint on the rear glass as well as the new bracing , won't stop a toe rag trying to smash the window but may make it more difficult and more time consuming

I don't think that window goes down and up, so why not fit it with Level 1 bullet proof glass. Meant for 9mm so it isn't very thick, but more importantly, it won't be able to be shattered.
Would a polycarbonate rear window not have worked with this project? That's basically smash-proof.

All you had to do to take care of the back door glass was make the back door glass bullet proof and then no one could brake into the back door and it would not have changed the functionality of the back door
Just needs a little roof beacon and it'll pretty much be perfect

I'll never understand why Dan didn't just replace the rear glass with sheet metal it's not like he needs to see out of it with reversing cameras etc, great job though guys @UA.
What is the name of the unit on which the cameras connect to ?
I'll assume that the rear window needs to be able to shatter in case someone is trapped inside for some reason, and that replacing it with metal would hinder resale? That's quality customization gents!
nah they obviously just couldn't be bothered replacing it with metal, a lot of modern cars have bunch of sensors around the rear window which would potentially require some software modification too.

Surely if you put a solid panel in the back, and wrapped it in a colour to make it look like glass, and remove the wiper, that would be the solution? As i know Si said the wiper is in the way, but you wouldnt need it anyway? 9:49
The hardtop is meant to be commercial, so why not just panel it and paint or wrap it the same colour as the car? Seems like you’re making this so much harder than it needs to be

For the rear window, can you not apply a film like a front windscreen has to give it strength and instead of smashing it’s just crack.

The whole thing is pointless anyway. He said he wanted something to stop them smashing the window. Which they'll still do. They wasn't robbing anything out the back besides gym stuff, so It's still the same outcome. He'll have to replace his back window 😂
if that back door is an issue for thief's should make a carbon door option with a full polycarbonate panel that cant be broken do the whoel door in poly with the cross brace urban on both sides so carbon would be the outer rim if you get what i mean be a very trick option to sell the clients . especially in high crime areas
