I love this Bassline so much
It reminds me of some breaks I learned from Famoudou Konaté when learning Malinke music…
Try "The Planet Of Straw Men" by Tropical Fuck Storm.
Same man, it's been on loop in my head for days!
You know I've been finding myself saying this to almost every song the smile has made so far. And with Tom's Jazzy and poppy style drumming it just compliments the baselines so well
You can learn it in a couple of hours. It is way up by the 12th fret, thus easier to finger. Two parts to the main riff and one for the chorus. Thom plays a short scale bass for this. If you have one, it is even easier to play.

I’ve gotten much sonic pleasure listening to Radiohead without ever knowing anyone’s names or stories but this new jazzy supergroup…wow, cheers to channeling new sounds and giving your vessels in service of the soul of sound and music again

it's really impressive how Thom plays that gorgeous bassline and sings without even looking at the fretboard, he's such a talented and good musician
Not to crap on what you're saying, but it's a super basic pentatonic run. It's his groove that makes it so good, not technical skill.

this real simple bass....and than this high voiced howl.......suffering thom...
The bassline sounds like it was played using the palm mute, but Thoms is playing with his fingers like any normal bassline. Help i want to recreate this tone but i don't know how
The bassline is doubled by Jonny who palm mutes it I think

I am so happy to find new good bands, growing up in the 70s I felt that the caos in music from the 21st century was going from mediocre to really impossible to listen... The Smile, Greta Van Fleet are hopes that not everything is going bad like Bad Bunny and such!

The Smile is to Radiohead as roses are to orchids or as cake is to pie. They have their similarities, but they are both beautiful and wonderful in their own unique way.
